It is easier than a whole block or two backing because some buttknocker is flushing “wipes” than one buttknocker backing up and having to pay tooth and nail to fix the issue. Counties here don’t give a shit about complaints, unless they get a dozen or more in a short period of time.

@@Backyardmech1 in the US you are responsible for your own pipe. Once it reaches the sidewalk or street its the cities problem.

I know. I’m a retired critical care / ER nurse. Seen and smelled lots of gross stuff. I’d have my nose completely blocked with Vicks or wear an N95 mask with a few drops of peppermint oil.

Back there today actually! the customer uncovered the underground manhole so we are checking the run for roots considering how difficult the blockage was to clear

How else can you see what the problem is when a drain gets blocked? It’s called an inspection chamber. How do you do things in your country?

@@juliebrooke6099 In the U.S, I haven't seen a single house, yet, that has a manhole in their backyard. Typically it's a straight run from the house out to the street and there is a manhole somewhere on the sidewalk or in the street. I haven't seen a single manhole on anyone's property here. Moreover, the manholes are just round holes in the ground, nowhere near as large as these rectangular pits you have.

They have tools like that. It’s a thing that spins which is inside a coiled wire and the spinny part sticks out one end.

We have the same thing here in the USA. The British like to play with poo poo. It's a time honoured tradition around England.

Too sensible to be consistently used properly. Even if you made an irregular hole somebody would put it in the wrong way round. But you wouldn't know that.
