|| mystery song of the day ||
Didn't know what time it was, the lights were low
I leaned back on my radio
Some cat was layin' down some rock 'n' roll
"Lotta soul, " he said
Then the loud sound did seem to fade
Came back like a slow voice on a wave of phase
That wasn't no DJ, that was hazy cosmic jive
There's a starman waiting in the sky
He'd like to come and meet us
But he thinks he'd blow our minds
There's a starman waiting in the sky
He's told us not to blow it
'Cause he knows it's all worthwhile
He told me
Let the children lose it
Let the children use it
Let all the children boogie
I had to phone someone, so I picked on you
Hey, that's far out, so you heard him too
Switch on the TV, we may pick him up on channel two
Look out your window, I can see his light
If we can sparkle, he may land tonight
Don't tell your papa or he'll get us locked up in fright
There's a starman waiting in the sky
He'd like to come and meet us
But he thinks he'd blow our minds
There's a starman waiting in the sky
He's told us not to blow it
'Cause he knows it's all worthwhile
He told me
Let the children lose it
Let the children use it
Let all the children boogie
Starman waiting in the sky
He'd like to come and meet us
But he thinks he'd blow our minds
There's a starman waiting in the sky
He's told us not to blow it

I like how they couldn't put Jason Todd in the DCAU because his story was too "dark" But then they made Tim Drake, who in this version has the same backstory as Jason, get tortured and mentally broken by the Joker, who ends up being murdered by Tim

DCAU Tim is just Jason by another name, and that probably explains my soft spot for him, despite Tim being my favourite. It's weird coming back to this show as I got older and realised that this Tim is not like comic Tim. The one thing he definitely gets from his comic counterpart is how he brings Dick and Bruce back together through his sheer perseverance. The thing that always gets overlooked or misunderstood is that despite Dick being the character everyone loves and respects, Tim is the heart of the Bat kids even though he's more known for being the brains.

While the DCAU Tim Drake didn't figure out Batman's identity like in the comics, it was revealed in the Lost Years tie in comics that he was a massive fan of Batman and Robin beforehand like the comic book Tim Drake. Tim Drake in the DCAU has definitely had it rough both before and during his tenure as Robin, especially at the end of his role as Robin, but he still had a positive personality in spite of it. I liked the way TNBA did Tim Drake as a perfect combination of Tim and Jason. Jason’s more down-to-earth affecting origin (street kid with a thug parent) but combine it with Tim idolizing Batman and Robin and wanting to be just like them. I like that Tim had a lot of depth to him I feel like Batman Beyond should have featured him more after RotJ. I didn’t like that it almost felt like the writers just used him to be a vessel to bring the Joker back rather than work his presence into the future more. I found Tim Drake in the DCAU more interesting than Terry to be honest.

People tend to forget he used to be cheery. Hell, he wasn't even a natural brunette, he dyed his hair black to imitate Dick. But people thought he was boring and Denny O'Neil really liked Jason, so they kept him and made him edgy and violent to make him different from Dick. Like Damian, the fans didn't like that very much and DC took note of that, and when Jason got blown tf up, there was a vote on whether or not he should live. Voters called across the nation to decide his fate, and he died. Contrary to popular belief, Jason wasn't liked much until he was resurrected as Red Hood. Sooooo... Of being a street kid in Gotham, both fathers are lowkey thug working with Two Face and both carry the element of being a victim of the Joker. 1:31 That could be the Inspiration of ClownHunter. Both of them idolized Batman Both have his old Batarangs. Both self trained Difference is Batman while Batman didn’t took Clownhunter under his wing, Batman promise him The Joker won’t hurt anyone again. Sadly could never find confirmation how much truth to that there was, especially if it only stayed a pitch.

Once it was revealed that Annie was Clayface, her "death" was really a trick, similar to Susan Wayne's death in "Chemistry"; they were like a.i. girlfriends.

It makes me wish we could've gotten at least 1 more season of Beyond where we get to see the grown up Tim again. Maybe even see his family, or have him talk with Terry about the responsibility is carrying now. RotJ still is a really good bookend for Terrys own series, but you can tell there was still a bit room for a proper, intended finale for his journey to become the next dark knight.

Never realised how Batman treated each "son" differently & less compassionately, it says a lot about each of them in response ( Bruce and the sons).

On one hand, Bruce x Barbara bs aside, I can accept that the DCAU Batfamily ended in shambles. It's realistic. Contrary to the comics, I don't see Bruce bring truly capable of managing the healthy relationships needed for a family when he is so obsessed with crime fighting. Case and point, Jason Todd, one of Batman's greatest failures.. and a person that has yet to truly make up without future conflict as if he doesn't know where Jason's heart is at.

Ah yes another reminder why I don't like DCAU Batman all that much. Like am I really the only one that gets annoyed to here Batman endlessly talk about how one has to give everything to "the mission" when the character seemingly has entirely forgotten what his mission even is and why he is on it in the first place going off his actions?

  • @JurassicRod

I never got invested in Tim in the DCAU. By amalgamating Tim and Jason they ended up making him kind of a nothing character to me. He didn't feel he had a defined character. Just generic kid sidekick.
