Just a warning regarding Ringnecks. They have very, VERY difference personalities, even more different than the two seen on this videos. Some will talk nonstop, some won't learn any words. Some are friendly, some are destructive. They are super smart and demand attention, toys and challenges. They are not a bird for beginners, although they aren't close to being the most challenging either (those would be macaws and cockatoos). Birds are wonderful, but make sure you learn as much as you can before brings them home, because you are the one responsible for their quality of life and happiness from that point on.

As my aunt says "You have to be a certain kind of crazy to have a parrot. Crazy but kind." She has 8 parrots now. Her first was Rambo in 1988 he was baught as a baby but the rest are all rescues. When she found out just how many parrots are surrendered or thrown away by people who didn't know what they were getting into, she's only ever adopted then on. There are so many looking for homes it's insane and parrots are one of the hardest animals to rehab and re-home. She would rescue more in a heartbeat if she could but is at full capacity right now. She hopes when she gets enough for her dream homestead she can build an aviary and get a few more. It's a shame just how many parrots are in needs of homes because of mostly ignorance. At times she wishes that people would have to go through a pet care class before they can get said pet beforehand, takeing care of anouther life is a full time job.

And also the noise level, they can be very loud to live with (speaking from experience). If people have studied and are prepared for a specific species of animal, then adopting will be a great thing for both parties.

It's true though, and many people who get parrots never should have done it. They don't realise they're bringing a creature into their home that will be loud, messy, destructive and get into everything. They're really intelligent and they need lots of stimulation or they'll get bored and even more destructive than they naturally are. They are gregarious so they need tons of interaction and love and time from their humans or they become depressed and develop behaviour problems like self-harm or incessant ear-piercing screaming. Not a pet for everyone.

I felt the “easy pets” comment. People think that about Guinea pigs but they’re a lot of work: cage cleaning, baths, nail clipping, ear cleaning, toys, treats, special food, fresh fruits and veggies, vitamin c supplements (just to be safe), floor time, cuddles, and vet visits. Having pigs is a lot of work but I’ve had them for almost 15 years and I love them so much!

Ringnecks are highly intelligent birds, and they can learn a lot of things if correctly taught. Psittacine birds in general are very nice and intelligent. On the Ringnecks, females are the dominant ones. If they don't like a male they can even kill him. In this case, as the male was already an adult bird, and he already lived on that territory (the house) and the female much younger and arrived later, she obviously accepted him. Would be curious to know if those eggs have hatched and baby Ringnecks were born. Love your videos!

Thank you for saying how much hard work they are! They can be a lifetime companion - they can be _two_ lifetime companions if you get one of the longest-living ones when you're older yourself (so please make sure your bird will be cared for by someone it likes!). Given how heartbreaking it is to lose a dog after a relative handful of years, birds are better bets for those who want to stand a chance of not getting their heart broken every decade or so. But they are _constant_ work, _especially_ members of the parrot family. That includes budgerigars - they're also very companionable and smart, and seriously undervalued imho. They're not as flashy as big parrots, but they can be terrific companions (if you treat them well) and they're smart too! My gran would let hers out of its cage for a fly around the living room (this was in the early 70s, and probably before then, so she would have been considered quite progressive by some people). When I went to stay with her, we'd have a daily reading time, and Beauty used to come and sit on one of our shoulders - the ones touching each other - and would "read" with us! He loved it - he was free to fly around anywhere, and if the story wasn't so good, he might fly off (he'd fly into his cage when _he_ wanted to return, but if someone was to come to the house, he knew Gran needed him to go back to his cage to keep safe. Like I said, smart bird!) I don't particularly hold with keeping birds (imho they should be free), but I am not against people like this lady who is doing everything to keep her family members happy and healthy. Unfortunately, too many people act in the way she warned about - they chuck in some seed, maybe get around to cleaning the water bowl and bottom of the cage every so often, and apart from a quick "who's a pretty boy?" they spend no time with them. If they're in an outdoor aviary with others of its breed, then you can lower your interaction (as long as you keep the place clean, the water fresh and the food good, along with all good husbandry tasks), but I don't see the point. Maybe that's just me 🤷🏻‍♀️ Meanwhile, I wish this lady and her birds a long, happy, healthy life together, and please let us know when the chicks do come. If she's already _that_ maternal... Prepare for a lot of noise! 😂💕

I was on the edge once again.but God and my Gramma had other plans for me. Before my gramma passed... I told her crying that she has always been that angel on my shoulder and I didn't know what I was gonna do with out her... She grabbed me and hugged me tightly and said she would always be that angel on my shoulder. Then a few weeks later she passed. Funny how things play out, I was born Feb 3/1980 and JuJu was born Feb 22,2021. He is my shadow, that angel on my shoulder. I thank my Gramma and God everyday for this gift ...i would not be here if not for him. So thank you all for seeing all life forms matter... THANK YOU ALL. BLESSED BE...
