On your recent live, I saw Jessica read that horrific letter from a Christian and I just want to tell you both I'm SO sorry and a little embarassed by Christians who can't just be kind. You two are such wonderful examples of how goodness and kindness does not need to have anything to do with religion. You both just emanate enthusiasm and joy for learning and exploring, such appreciation for beauty in all things and you both have a sophisticated yet at the same time an almost child-like wonder about the world that is so refreshing, so beautiful. MUCH LOVE to you both :)

Oh no I am sorry they got a letter like that. As a Christian, I have been told that my love for horror and dark content makes me not a real Christian. I laugh and continue living my life. I can only imagine what was said in the letter and those are the types I stay far away from.

To be fair it wouldn’t just just be certain Christian types it would be every faith Islam Hindu etc they all hate that sort of stuff. It’s silly it’s what’s in the heart that counts. But the way London has a massive underground tunnel system so it would be very difficult to find any connection to Sweeney Todd as it’s probably all underground mostly but was really good to watch you guys 😊

As a Londoner you've found a maze of snickets also known as courtyards or alleyways. Well done and great video. Now your very close to Jack the Rippers area, could that be your next video?

Almost all of central London has another floor below it. Underneath the streets and parks are roads and doors and rooms, grottoes. Great video matey They’re always discovering new sections of Roman wall they didn’t know existed. Edinburgh is the same. Under Edinburg are streets and houses, literally under the streets and houses. It’s bizarre and hardly ever talked about.

Funny you post this. I'm rewatching penny dreadful. Such a great series. I also love Sweeney Todd. I want to see the Broadway version of it

Spent a week in London last summer and our hotel was right across the street of 186 in front of the Temple church. Took us a while to figure out why Fleet Street sounded so familiar. Great area. London is awesome!

My favorite Tim Burton movie next to Edward Scissorhands. Johnny sung very haunting and beautiful in this movie. Thank you for finally doing a video on it. Wonderful video Michael and Jess. Happy Halloween 🎃

The Ostrich Inn/Pub in Colnbrook near Slough/Heathrow you will find what is purported to be the most haunted pub in the UK. The pub is the third oldest in Great Britain, dating back to 1103 and the story goes there was a bedroom where there was a hinged bed/floor and the guests would be dropped into a vat of boiling water. Been there a few times, the place is definitely sending out some strange vibes.

Many thanks for such a wonderful video and such great explanation, I’m at London license taxi driver(black cab driver) Westminster tour guide and accredited, taxi guide and love to point out the Sweeney Todd locations/legend of Fleet Street. It’s wonderful to try and track down all the locations. The interesting thing with Saint Dunstan in the west and Fleet Street is that it was widened around the same time as the penny dreadful in the early 19th century, so it is said the original church would’ve been closer nearer to the centre of the street today and in fact today’s church is built where the graveyard used to be

Like the alley you both walked through at 14:45 you will notice sloped sections on the walls in alleys and doorways. These were to prevent people urinating up the walls.

I’ve been watching a lot of your videos Michael and Jessica and they always blow me away when you show the real places of my favorite horror stories. Sweeney Todd is my favorite musical and thank you for showing the real historical places behind it. ❤

This video was a surprise. I first learned of the story from the Penny Dreadfuls book from Barnes and Noble. A collected works book of horror fic from the Penny Dreadfuls time period. The beginning of the book gives the history on them. Besides Sweeney Todd the book also includes the original 1818 version of Frankenstein.

I went to London with my drama class in 1993…? Sweeny Todd live was SO impressive to me. I absolutely loved it. My jaw dropped during the first razor scene because I hadn’t a clue what it was about nor that a theatre would show “blood.” I love Johnny Depp and Helena in everything they do together. Simply magical.

I do urbex and this vid is brilliant. The tunnels are there. So the church and old chute to the door you found is a basement leading to some more old segments and tunnels etc. The wall at side of the church with dundee on it is supposed to be where the stairs leading to the barbershop was .The tunnels under church are also there .But bare in mind there are 100s of tunnels all over london wether they are old sewer tunnels etc .Also the smell of pee would have added to the atmosphere ;-) . Done loads of the tunnels around london and some are damn right strange lore wise. Body snatchers etc .Very cool vid and a nice trip down memory lane .

This is crazy. I was in London a couple of months back and walked right in front of the church at the start of the video and the dragon. I knew there was something to it but I never looked into it. We just happened to walk by as we were exploring.

You might want to look at the Ostrich Inn near Heathrow, it's an ancient pub that was once run by husband and wife serial killers, they built a trap door under the bed reserved for wealthy guests who would fall into a barrel in the room below and be drowned. It's extremely haunted and atmospheric plus you can stay the night

That back entrance way to what would have been the barber shop (the smelly alley entrance) immediately made me think of Miller's Court. The white brick work, the narrow space & the pipes made me think of the scene where Mary Jane Kelly was found. Just thought that was interesting.

I'm very new to your channel and stumbled on this episode, a well told tale! I work on Chancery Lane, seconds away from Fleet Street, it always makes me chuckle seeing tourists taking photos of the barber shop you stopped outside of. Next time you are in this area of London, you definitely need to go to Temple Church, lots of fascinating, tombs and history all connected to the Knights Templar....
