I was in a folk dance group in college and we danced both of these dances. Watching this video brought back wonderful memories. Tack sa mycket!

When I was a kid in the 50's I used to play a lot of this Swedish folk music on my violin in ND. Norsk dances, too. Polkas, Hambos, Schottisches, I forgot the other types. Much better days, they were. I remember that when we moved to California, and I finally found a good professional teacher, I played a Scandinavian dance for the audition. He was a Dutchman from The Hague. After I played he said to my parents & me, "Oh, so you are Norwegians then?" 😆😆 When we had festivals back home in ND, we used to enjoy going to a place where the men would perform "The Slap Dance". That was always a hoot.

So glad I found this! I've been looking for this dance for ages, but wasn't sure of the name. I used to dance this with my grandfather when I was little, (back in the 50s) and he used to swing me through the air at the spinning part. So great to see this again. Thank you for posting, and thank you YT for making this possible.

I have mixed feelongs and memories of dancing the Hambo 6 times a day over a long weekend. I ripped the sole off my left shoe on 5 pairs of shoes courtesy of that pivot/spin. Love the dance; hate dancing in socks.

More "Ringlek" than "Hambo", but I love it never the less!! A "Ringlek" is a choreographed game where the synchronisation of the participants is paramount! Think of it like a dancing game pre-Xbox.. You know.. Back when people actually had to meet face to face and make the best of it!

I once visited the small town of Stockholm, Minnesota with my American friend. There sat a couple of older men in the highway coffey shack. They heard my bad English and my American friend waved to them, and I also. I Wish I could have stayed, socializing. I bet they heard I was from Sweden. Like visiting Old Sweden in Ukraina perhaps.

The dance style is to every man or woman parting, is to at least touch or hold the otherone at least once. A mating dance perhaps.

It is very fun to do these daces with your spose / girlfriend, ecpecially if thy are of different kinds, like Polka, Schottis and Hambo. Line-dancing like this is not as fun, Yo want to dance with your girl.

In the 18'hundreds, To hold a girl in her hand, was an awsome thing, thus these ring dances. To hold her in your arms was exceptionally nice. Every young man or woman, hoped to at least hold the best one, at least for a while. So as not to do in-breeding
