I used to think Sweden was expensive but when I went there earlier this year, it’s made me realise how much the price of everything has increased in the UK except for our salaries. The food there seems to be higher quality too.

@@NordinWalks Hey Nordin, someone told me that at their grocery store in Sweden they have a special section up front with all the lost mittens, scarves, gloves, umbrellas so kind of like a Lost and Found It's also in a much smaller community. I wonder if it's a thing in other places in Sweden? Maybe not in big cities like Stockholm. But I'm sure many gloves and mittens get lost on a daily basis. Is there still a tradition of tying them (gloves are mittens) to a string and then putting it through your coat sleeves? It also makes it easier if you have to take them off that can just be hanging off your coat sleeves. My one pair of mittens also came with like little strings already attached so you can put them around your wrists so they don't get lost if you have to take them off

Prices are crazy good compared to the US !! Great store.... think I'll have some Marabou, to have with my kropkakkor tonight !! I live near Chicago, and in a town with a large Swedish history, with many people arriving in the 1920s. We have sill, pepparkakkor (including Anna's and Nyakers), potatiskorv, and many other Swedish foods in stores and one particular restaurant that has been a community staple for generations. I got some Julmust this year- I'd never had it before. It's kind of like non-alcoholic, fizzy glögg !!

Fabulous video! THANK YOU!!! I enjoyed so much. I felt the prices weren't so different from the supermarkets where I live in Northern California. The store is gorgeous with good lighting and wide aisles. The other sections I would have loved to have seen are: dried spices/herbs, dog food/treats, detergent/soaps, Asian food ingredients, Hispanic food ingredients (I heard that tacos are popular in Sweden), and tea. I absolutely loved my business trips to Sweden and want to go back. Also would love to see some home goods (kitchen items, interior items, dishware, etc.) shops, plant nurseries, drug shops and do-it-yourself (for the home) shops. I subscribed today! Warm wishes to you and MERRY CHRISTMAS! :) ❤🐕❤🎄❤

It's fking annoying. I hate it. The only reason we have it this way, is because the state wants to milk us of more taxes. It's superannoying. And then they say "well durr look at the great selection we have" like there wouldn't be specilized stores without the government stores. The selection isn't even that great, tho, I guess I don't have much to compare with..

That's because English and Swedish are germanic languages and English came from England, which were invaded and taken over by Scandinavians so some words in english are loanwords from Scandinavian. For example Bread, which is Bröd in Swedish and Brot in Old norse. Then you have just pure Swedish words in english as well like "Smörgåsbord", which I find funny. I don't know why that is.

@Jeffrey Lemos Aparently the US, I'm guessing you're from there, wash their eggs to get rid of salmonella and in the process a protective layer on the egg is removed and they then have to be refrigerated not to spoil. In Sweden the risk of salmonella is very low partly because it is tested for regularily and partly because of other measures. Most of the world doesn't have as tight control over food production as in Sweden, but still most don't refrigerate their eggs, from what I have seen.

Fascinating. Firstly, as an American, I tend to move like a racecar driver through the store, although in my vehicle on the street I'm very crash prevention-oriented. So the slower pace of shopping was ASMR for me. Second, I noticed this store's shopping carts look smaller in capacity, as well as not having the trays on bottom (which my shins always strike, bc of my long legged stride) for larger items, such as American carts usually have for carrying big bags of dog kibble, cat litter or flats of water, paper towels and toilet paper. Are the smaller carts w/o lower trays typical of Swedish stores or just this one? Third, the camera's point of view being focused on the front edge of the cart, combined with the slow pace, was kind of spooky for me (not complaining, I'm into spooky), like a self-driven car (which I've not yet experienced, but have seen on YT). Also, thanks for showing the products' appearance and pricing. It looks like another old brand is changing its name to get past a formerly racist image (Uncle Ben's = Ben's, like Aunt Jemima = Pearl Milling Co.). The prices on the whole seem reasonable for the times, though not as inexpensive as they used to be. But that's the way of capitalism. Thanks for the stroll. Happy holidays! 🎄🎄🎄💙💛💙💛💙💛

Most common Swedish cheese is: Hushållsost (a mild cheese that everyone likes), Västerbottenost (for pies and stuff), Prästost (a cheese with more taste, it's very good imo). Then we have a lot of cheeses which are popular but not Swedish, tho sometimes made here, like: Feta, Gouda, Cheddar and such..

That is odd indeed. Average salary here is 3000 Euros. Though, not all earn that much of course. In the US it's like 5000 and they have lower food prices than us. Minimum wage is like 2000 Euros. But then we are also taxed superhigh. Our taxes are insane. Like 50% tax. You pay tax on everything you buy + 30% tax on your salary even higher if you earn a lot of money.

Has there been conflict between the store owners and a labor union about having self-checkout?

  • @osobaum

    @osobaum

    Жыл бұрын

Not big ones, maybe the unions got a good deal out of it, but there are alot of very young people working in grocery stores and they tend not to be unionised. There is also more of a focus on workers rights, fair wage, overtime pay and what constitutes full time in Sweden in my opinion, and less of a disruptive union practice. The goal should be a smooth transition into robotisation as opposed to trying to hinder the technological advancements. If the approach is working at the moment though, I'm not so sure about. Partly because the unions are very weak right if compared historically. But that can change again as long as the politicians stay out of it.

Thanks, Nordin. I found many things to be either about the same price as what I would expect in the US or a bit more expensive. I thought that butter was more expensive. The eggs were expensive as well. I would expect to pay $4 here for a 24 pack not a 12 pack. But I just buy the normal ones not the organic, you know, top of the range

Is inflation slowing down in Sweden finally? Is everything about 10 to 15% more expensive than a year ago? Inflation I think is stabilizing here in the US, I haven't seen any huge increases since about September or October

@@NordinWalks if it's any consolation, I think it started in the US earlier than in other countries. Our price increases started probably around March or April of this year, and in the summer the increases were very substantial. But since about September or October they have slowed down a lot and I haven't really seen any jumps since then. Hopefully, it will slow down everywhere else in the world soon.

Everything is so cheap compared to here in Israel. And I was shook to read your remark regarding the Cheerious (that it's expensive). In Israel, cereal box can be as expensive as 30 NIS which is 8.66 dollars! And it's a common price, not something rare.

Greetings from hot, sunny Australia.😊 Merry Christmas to all Swedes. In our super markets we have only just banned the use of plastic bags. Our government needs to step up issues around climate change. We export a lot of coal from south and west coasts of Australia. Our new government is more focused on energy policy and environmental concerns.

People like the guy at 2:50 grinds my gears. Either zero awareness of the surroundings or too arrogant or selfish to move his cart to the side. Same sort of people who continues to walk in the middle of a footpath instead of moving to the side when there's a bicycle or similar passing them. For some reason it's seems to happen more when the person is tall.

It's interesting how the entire video, there was only one attractive woman and she had two kids. People say that Americans are fat, but if you were to go into grocery store in America, you'd see at least 20 to 30 attractive women and maybe 50.
