To all the people that say that: "sweden deserved to win, they were the better team" need to realize that goalies are also part of a team, infact the most important position in hockey and that's where Finland had the edge. Also do you Swedes and similiar fellas even realize how many times Finland has lost an gold medal game regardless of being the "better team?" If you have followed hockey since the last 10 years you must know that goalies are the main reason why Finland is a dark horse/ medal contender every year & every tournament, just like this one.

This game had quite possibly the worst refs I've ever seen. Except maybe for IIHF WC 2014 final, FIN-RUS when the refs were possibly bribed or threatened by russian intelligence. In both cases, the refs actively tried to make Finland lose. I've never seen anything alike, and it still baffles me how these refs can look themselves in the mirror. A disgrace.

Larsludwig You didn't get my point. Finland tried to freeze to game because it was in the lead. That's what Swedes have always done and always do when they are in the lead. Get an early lead and then play more through defense. That's what the Finns did succesfully and thus were better.

yes, juuse saros, the goalie of finland was amazing in that game but everyone are forgetting teuvo teräväinen, who was the best player and scoring leader in the tournament and captain of the finland's team. he created so many chances for finland and 13 assists is the result. he assisted all of finland's goals in the final. also mäenalanen who scored 7 goals and became the goal scoring leader in the tournament and of course winning goal scorer ristolainen were important pieces in the team. so finland's team wasn't full of nobodies. for example teräväinen and ristolainen are both 1st round prospects to NHL.

Man that was one hell of a match, im so happy that we managed to win! It was a tough match and in my opinion both teams deserved to win. Sweden had better team ''on paper'' and you controlled most of the game but as a team, Finland did its absolute best, and we were better in the situations when it mattered the most. But gotta say, it's really nice to see that most of you swedes are still respectful and nice towards the opponent even if you lose the game. The real players and the real men are those who shows some respect to their enemies no matter are they winning or losing. That's something i really appreciate. Of course it's still sweet to beat you up, but after all, you are good neighbours an great opponents! :) Cheers, and respect from Finland!

I believe this game was settled by Swedish media that wrote all about how it was obvious that Sweden will win the gold medal. They had all the gold medal celebrations all worked out before the game. It made huge pressures for the Swedish players, especially goaltender Oscar Dansk who wasn't as restful as Finland's Juuse Saros. Nice victory for Finland. Unfortunately those referees weren't at the same level as the game itself.

Why so much hate? Show some respect. Sweden was the better team 60 minutes of the game. They skated and ruled the offensive play. But Finland had a verry good goalie wich is the reason why Finland won. If Saros had not played that good that he did Sweden would have won maybe 5-2. The reason why Finland got so many penaltys was because Sweden was verry skilled in their "offensive" play wich made the finns tired and wich was the result to the penaltys. But Finland played verry skiled in their defensive with a little box wich made it hard for the Swedes to score 5 against 5. Finland did an heroic match beating a stronger, better Sweden. So congrats to the gold.

Seems that some Swedes are bad losers. Sweden didn't "deserve" to win and wasn't the better team. Of course Sweden was more aggressive in its offensive play as Finland was defending its lead. That's how Sweden would have played, too. Also, Swedes were mostly banging their heads to the disciplined Finnish defense and, although he was clearly the better goalie today, Juuse Saros didn't have to make a lot of miraculous saves. You also have to remember that the refs donated the second goal for the Swedes. Three penalties in a row for Finns from which two were out of nothing.

Also you have to remember that ice hockey is a game where both offense and defense matter. Sweden's defense were in big trouble in a lot of times during the match and the numbers could have been even clearer for the Finns. Finns knew in advance that Sweden's defense is its weak spot.

***** Wow, U just elevated up to new level of stupidity. "Overwhelming hate ...etc." I work in the field of security and that work takes me to all nordic countries...there is no hate...did u have a brainfart when u wrote the comment. Yes U have the to right to speak ur mind, but do not generalize. And get over that WW2, and check ur sources. Sweden helped us by sending food and civilian help. Some swedes chose to volunteer to fight our war. The monetary help from Sweden doubled Finland's state budget. Those are just couple facts. U talk about betrayal, well by definition that requires a contract or promise, and there was none. Sweden did well to avoid the war...it would have been stupid by them to go to war in a moment in time when no one knew what the outcome would be.The only thing I agree with U is the fact, that Sweden provided raw material to make steel to Nazi's and kinda played both sides. Your's sincerely, res. yliltn. M. Aho All this mumbojumbo from a hockey game....no further comments from me. Let's keep the Nordic cooperation and friendship strong.

Wow, what a tournament! SO happy for Finland after what the Swedes did to the Russians (Petterson, who was suspended for this game). Svaga nerver.
