Sway Your Way To Way Better Golf

Спорт

To SWAY or not to SWAY? That is the question.
And the answer is, categorically, to SWAY! You should sway you pelvis TOWARDS the target in the downswing and follow-through. If fact, PGA Tour average would see the centre of the pelvis move some 6-8 inches towards the target from the top of the backswing, to the finish of the swing.
As far as the backswing is concerned, however, NO SWAY is the name of the game, with PGA Tour averages seeing ZERO inches of pelvic sway.
So a CENTERED BACKSWING, followed by a WEIGHT TRANSFER TOWARDS the target in the downswing and follow-through.
Let me share with you two of my “go to” drills to allow you to learn the correct feels and master the sways in your your golf swing.

Thank you so much Rob! Trevino said he slightly shifts (sway) his lead hip toward the target to initiate downswing. Nicklaus stated his downswing trigger was his target knee moving down and forward toward the target line. I’ve tried both and both deliver distance and accuracy. Your video discussion and analysis is exceptional. Thank you for the breakdown that clearly shows hip sway toward the target line. This was a defining moment for me. The sound of compression never sounded better : )

Thanks Rob. They way you show and explain in all of your videos the fundamentals of the golf swing really resonate with me and I'm sure countless others. As a retired engineer the way you show data really make the words and explanations hit home so to speak. Now to get at it.

If you start the backswing with the weight 50:50 and try. to keep it that way, you will automatically move your hips a little toward the target when the club moves back in the takeaway, (which is a movement of a small amount to mass ( the arms and the club) behind the address position. )So if you try to maintain the address 50:50 weight distribution, you body will automatically move left a little to off set the club going in the opposite direction in the takeaway. All it takes is awareness of trying to maintain 50:50 balance condition during the takeaway

Thanks, Rob! This is certainly something I need to work on as I'm not turning through and getting weight forward enough. I've noticed a breakdown in my arms in my normal swing as opposed to when I swing hard and stop quick.

Amazing insight as always Rob! I am guilty of focusing so much on impact that I forget to get that shift/turn incorporated because if I then think of it the height and length greatly improves.

Regarding the timing and inclusiveness of the forward sway, the instructors at AMG have used Gears to demonstrate that the best players (tour pros) start the leftward sway with *both*centers from the sternum to the hips (but not the head) while the club is still moving back clockwise. Brian Manzella has made similar statements, based on gears. Your emphasis seems to be more on the sway of the lower center. I greatly respect them and I greatly respect you. I would be grateful if you would clarify this. Thank you very much.

Rob, In other videos , you make a point of getting your hands very low and your body down at shaft parallel in the downswing, and then pushing up and straightening your legs so your hands and the handle move considerably up into impact. Yet, in this video your hands are much higher at shaft parallel, your left leg is much straighter, and your hand position only rises a small amount into impact. Why is that? I am a tall golfer and find hit hard to spring up into impact. I have found that, apparently like you. when you are tall there is not really time to jump up(lJustin Thomas, for example) like shorter golfers who do not have to travel so far! Alan

Rob do the arms swing down turning the shoulders or the shoulders turn around releasing the arms through centrifugal force.Really enjoying your content as no sore back and hitting it 25 yards further from New Zealand.

Great video! Do you have any videos on the ideal behavior of the lead wrist from impact to follow through? As I see your swing, it seems like very shortly after impact your wrist starts to cup. I've always heard the lead wrist should not cup until much fuirther after impact. Can you shed some light on this? Thanks.

Great video!! QQ though--- in the back swing, should you keep (or have the feel of) your hands in front of you? Really trying to grind the back swing, with the hands in and I feel like when I tilt and turn, my hands/club get behind me. Like when I use the grid, I feel like they are low and behind me. The club gets lost on me alot of time and I make more contact and low duck hooks.

Great content . What about the pros that do shift off the ball slightly. It’s been confirmed using technology, but they do recenter, So you are advocating to skip the the need to recenter and just turn from the start? Thoughts on re-centering?

rob, this is a really good video and info especially the swing action in slo-mo. i'm kind of old fashioned and have recently got my first smart phone and i should try capturing my swing, i've always used a mirror. would you say your swing is driven by your arms or are you doing a body pivot type swing? thnx for the help.

8:44 I’ve just discovered your KZread channel and I’m doing everything wrong in my attempt at Stack and Tilt! Since the downswing takes less than 0.5 seconds, I’m having difficulty understanding what (body part) starts the hip sway forward and what starts the pelvic rotation. Finally, if they are done in sequence, how is this possible in such a short time? I love your site! Should I view your videos in any particular order?

To me ,the theory of weight shift and swaying is the single most contentious issue of the golf swing. It has damaged many golfers swings. I don’t think there is much wrong with Nicklaus’s coach holding his hair or Ballesteros having a club resting against his head during the swing.

The Athletic Motion guys say there should be a slight sway away from the target at the start of the backswing, around 1". I wonder if you disagree with this or are just rounding that down to no sway, since many people sway a lot more than that? kzread.info/dash/bejne/pauZsK5-pbm4nsY.html
