Thank you for the updates and explanation. I was thinking to wait for the 2nd edition before actually making the leap. But now I am decided!
Good to know that it's not always in ID mode
Very informative, thanks. I’ve seen a few videos or reviews out there that talk about the features of these, but I haven’t seen any yet of actual field use and results. Any comments on how often the bird ID is incorrect? What’s the quality of the photos taken in the field? Are the sharing functions that can sync the view to other phones and allow you to pass the binocs to someone else seamless or glitchy?

Thank you for asking! We are planning to release another video with more images and videos taken with the AX Visio to give you a look at the camera's capabilities. As with the Merlin Bird ID app, the AX Visio does exceptionally well at IDing the bird when you are close enough to the bird and get a reasonably clear photo. We find it especially helpful that the AX Visio displays a confidence reading that tells you how much you should rely on the ID it gives. Although it takes a some time to establish the connection to other smartphones, the live view works very well. The Share Discoveries mode (where you mark a location and hand off the AX Visio to a friend) works flawlessly as long as you and your friend within a few feet of each other. Hopefully this answers your questions and stay tuned for more!
