    Next time the car dies, pull the fuel line and see if fuel is pumping while you crank it.

    That throttle position sensor has to be re-learned after switching it out if i recall correctly, as it is very very finely tuned with it's position. That might give an explanation to the breakups you hear when reving it. Thing is, since you swapped the sensor, the beginning point, endpoint and emergency window of the throttle valve do not lign up anymore with the adaptation saved in the ECU. So the thing to do would be to grab VCDS (not the lite version) and check for any faults. Clear them. Drive to VW or Bosch Service and let them adapt the new sensor (costs about 30€). It can be done by yourself, but it's quite a fiddle. The optimal rpm for idle speed should be around 650 rpm.

    Next time when it won't start, unplug coolant temperature sensor and try again.

    Now I'm 90% sure it's the fuel pump. As I wrote you on your last video's comment section, I had the same issue with my first car. Get a spare pump and test that sucka. If that turns out to be the problem, you own me a Hella Lippstadt headlights set for the B3! lol

    Hey man I had the same problem with my Passat VR6. The fix was the fuel pump relay. You will know which relay it is by turning the ignition switch off and on until you find the one that clicks. My was a relay with the numbers 109 on the top.

    by the looks of things, i thing You running lean, when the car gets hot.. like a fuel perculation issue, check and adjust the carb bro, its simple, get a short flat head screw driver, turn the screw the clock wise in quarter turns, and listen to the car, itll come right, then check to see if Your fuel return line is good, there has to be fuel coming into the engine bay, access fuel coming out of the engine, to keep heat away.. check and change the engine bay fuel lines, and vacuum lies might be broken and or leaking

    I don't think there is a mixture screw, isn't it all electronic? There might be a screw under the fuel pump diaphragm, sometimes covered in some sort of colored glue. But i doubt this will effect mixture. I think you have to control that via the ecu.

    Yeah it is a electronic Mono Point Injection, it gets its values from a water temperature sensor when its cold until the O2 Sensor is warmed up

    clean it up with carb spray, on idle, pull out the fuel line connecting to the carb, then leave it to idle, till it stalls, ie (uses all fuel in the carb float) itll run like a friggin brand new car

    Have you tried disconnecting the battery and leaving it for awhile before reconnecting it and checking the timing after putting in the new distributor

  • @tonym6266
    @tonym62664 жыл бұрын

    You should check the fuel pressure the fuel pump from sitting with bad gas might be bad and die as it get hot from running and I would definitely put the original injector cause if the one from the junkyard is different the resistance might be different and you could fry the driver in the ECU, good luck man

    Love your vids. Now that you have the throttle body of, you should change the gasket between the throttle body and inlet manifold. It would be an easy fix.

    Or you could put a tester on it. The connecter is located beside the astray.

    Have you scanned the car with VCDS? I know it’s pre 1998 so not OBD2, but still might point you in the right direction.

    I've got the same engine. Check if your TPS is properly aligned, it's really important and tricky to fine tune it to 0.18-0.20V on some pins when stepper motor is fully closed kzread.info/dash/bejne/fqqhlceKpMe7qJc.html . Also check temperature sensor on the throttle body over the injector (the 4-pin plug that powers your injector, 2 of the wires are for the sensor).

    Christian Smith well did you figure it out? Could also be that you didnt give time for the computer to get to know the new components. Mine is picky about any changes and gets weird untill I play with disconnecting then reconnecting battery or driving it at 2000 rpm on a highway for 10 min.
