Swans TV - Special: The Best of Michu for the Swans

Спорт

. . . Following his departure from the club, look back at Michu's best goals during his time at the Liberty Stadium.
Swansea City Association Football Club is a Welsh professional football club based in the city of Swansea, South Wales that plays in the Premier League. Swansea City represent England when playing in European competitions, although they have represented Wales in the past. They play their home matches at the Liberty Stadium.
The club was founded in 1912 as Swansea Town and joined the Football League in 1921. The club changed their name in 1969, when it adopted the name Swansea City to reflect Swansea's new status as a city.
In 1981, the club were promoted to the original Football League First Division. It was during the following season they came close to winning the league title, but a decline then set near the season's end before finishing sixth, although a club record. It was from here the club suffered a relegation the season after, returning to the Football League Fourth Division a few seasons later, then narrowly avoided relegation to the Football Conference in 2003. Prior to playing home matches at the Liberty Stadium, the team had previously hosted at the Vetch Field. The Swansea City Supporters Society Ltd owns 20% of the club, with their involvement hailed by Supporters Direct as "the most high profile example of the involvement of a supporters' trust in the direct running of a club".
In 2011, Swansea were promoted to the English Premier League, becoming the first Welsh team to play in the top division since its formation in 1992. On 24 February 2013, Swansea beat Bradford City 5-0 to win the 2012-13 Football League Cup (the competition's highest ever winning margin for the final), winning the first major English trophy in the club's history and qualifying for the 2013-14 UEFA Europa League.

    The people calling this man a one season wonder are disrespectful and ignorant. That is no way to describe a player like Michu, he never lost his ability. It was chronic ankle pain that ended his career so early, in his last season with Swansea he was playing in agony every week and you could see he just wasn't himself physically anymore it is truly a tragedy how his career at its peak was so bright and then injury gave him some dark days. He was a fighter and he gave football his all until it became too much. Don't remember Michu as the one season wonder, honour his career and remember him as the midfielder who was signed by Swansea from Rayo Vallecano and become one of the most feared forwards in the English game whilst earning an international cap by the best national team his country has ever produced. Gracias Michu!!!

    I disagree. Swans blocking his move to Arsenal and allowing him to develop with a top side was what killed his career.

  • @MenaceTwo2Society

    That is totally irrelevant. Arsenal never signed him therefore that club will never have anything to do with him. I watched Michu every week play for Swansea and injury curtailed his career, nothing else. Bigger clubs than Arsenal were interested in him but no one ever made an offer, do you really think Swansea would't accept 30 million for him? We named our price and no one matched it. Putting it politely what you said is a load of rubbish. I saw him in the flesh, struggle for an entire season with heavily strapped ankles and the only thing he liked about Arsenal was scoring against them every time he played them. If you do some research you will see that he wishes he could have done more for Swansea and said it was the best club hes ever played for as well. Take care.

    MenaceTwo2Society I disagree. Him not going to a "big" club (I support OUFC so what's big? Haha) followed by his awful loan spell did it for me. I hear what you say though. Time + injury doesn't help.

  • @MenaceTwo2Society

    @MenaceTwo2Society

    He had surgery twice when he played for Napoli - proof that injury screwed that for him. A big club wouldn't change the fact his ankles were giving up on him he wouldn't have lasted one season with a champions league club he would have retired even sooner maybe that's why no one ever made a move for him. I respect you for watching this video though nice to see people outside of Swansea still admire his talent. Napoli was a bigger move than Arsenal at the time so really speaking the proof in what I am saying is there. A bigger club wouldn't have changed anything. Fact of matter is he was class and if it wasn't for injury he would have had a great career.

Now He wants to recover the feeling "of being a football player", He prefer to test himself in a low division team, instead of go to a team of LaLiga and maybe because the pain couldn`t play.

    Excellent video , great work by whoever made it . Sad to see ankle problems hinder his progress at Swansea , then his move to Napoli not working out . It is a shame that he didn't see his future with us , right now when we are struggling we would have loved for Michu to be fit and there to help us climb the table . Only the special players make a mark in just one or two seasons and he did that - Should always be remembered fondly by all Swansea fans . All the best Miguel Perez Cuesta !

    I really liked Michu when I since he play I felt like with him in the Swansea team they could have done good things but I don't know what happened to him if anyone could shed any light for me. If it was because of him thinking he was too big for the club then that's a shame because as a Blackburn fan I know what that's like with santa cruz and Mccarthy two brilliant strikers at us then there was big talk of a big money move then they both lost form etc and never recovered. You could have easily got 10 time what you paid for Michu and when he was signed noone knew him and was easily one of the bargains of the season and even more tbh. Good luck to you in the future mate.
