Swan Lake - Coda from the Black Swan pas de deux in Act III (The Royal Ballet)
Ойын-сауық
Marianela Nuñez as Odile and Vadim Muntagirov as Prince Siegfried in the Act III Black Swan Pas de deux of Liam Scarlett's production of Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov’s Swan Lake.
Swan Lake is available to watch now - along with over 60 other extraordinary productions - on Royal Opera House Stream. Watch the whole performance now at www.roh.org.uk/tickets-and-ev...
Swan Lake was Tchaikovsky’s first score for ballet. Given its status today as arguably the best loved and most admired of all classical ballets, it is perhaps surprising that at its premiere in 1877 Swan Lake was poorly received. It is thanks to the 1895 production by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov that Swan Lake has become part of not only ballet consciousness but also wider popular culture. That success is secured not only by the sublime, symphonic sweep of Tchaikovsky’s score, but also by the striking choreographic contrasts between Petipa’s royal palace scenes and the lyric lakeside scenes created by Ivanov.
Swan Lake has had a special role in the repertory of The Royal Ballet since 1934. Since then there has been a succession of productions, the most recent of which was overseen by Anthony Dowell. This Season the Company creates a new production with additional choreography by Artist in Residence Liam Scarlett. Scarlett, while remaining faithful to the Petipa-Ivanov text, will bring fresh eyes to the staging of this classic ballet, in collaboration with his long-term designer John Macfarlane.

They shift the lighting during that final lift, that's how they make it look so suddenly dark and dreary. Odette's fate is sealed, and the lighting reflects it.
All the little things, like when she glances at Rothbart at the end for confirmation of her triumph, and THEN elegantly flings her arm and head backwards.😌
utterly obsessed with her wicked little glance back at her father at 1:27, and the smaller one at 1:42. she's got the prince hook, line, and sinker and she knows it.
Most people are talking about Marianela's 32 fouettes, which absolutely insane, but just look at the prince's technique at 1:05! It's on point!

Dove l’hai vista la Nunez?
Idk why, but as a kid I always liked the black swan’s part more.
The thing I'm most grateful for in Liam Scarlett's production (aside from the corps de ballet finally getting tutus) is the principals standing out against the background in Act 3. The old background was pretty and all but it was so dark, the dancers blended into it...
Marianela is always beautiful to watch. She is a work of art! And Vadim has the most beautiful lines. Love them together
Marianela is my favorite ballerina. So musical, so much artistry, so technical... it is really a joy to watch her every time.
Oh my god I don't think I've seen many dancers stay so close to one spot during so many turns...She nails it
His movements, the leaps especially, have such grace. Breathtaking.
@1:00 the little smirk she gives when she passes off to him is AMAZING
Wow! Vadream too, not an inch out of place. They are both so elegant, I could watch them all night. Matchless ballet pairing made in heaven.
Marianela and Vadim are such incredible dancers!! Both have such beautiful technique!!! Pause at 2:00 - It is so beautiful!!
I think that Marianela is the best Black Swan I have ever seen. At the end of her perfectly timed and executed fouettes, she still has the presence of mind to smirk at the Prince. Her port-de-bras is perfectly controlled throughout the fouettes. She also makes the most of every bit of choreography that the coda contains. Absolutely fantastic, world-class dancing: wow!
my favorite thing about this production is that the incredibly acted jealousy of the other princess' during the entire ball act after odile shows up, which you can catch a small bit of around 1.25 ! Small details really bring the entire show to life
Marianela Nunez is just amazing in every single role that comes her way

they are literally one of the best pairs I’ve ever seen together
All I could think of was how absolutely light light LIGHT the Prince was in his dancing! Effortless...incredible!
Nela’s musicality never seizes to amaze me , even during the fouettés she doesn’t lose them 🖤 I love watching her
I love how she snaps her hand away from him at the end - love the attitude! Lol.
I saw him once I think in El Conol in Argentina and wow did he jump, he wasn’t even the main character and everyone was clapping every time he was on stage. Next day the performance was on the news, truly amazing.
It feels like there is no friction with air when he jumps, only gravity pulling him down
Marianela is such an amazing prima ballerina!
I wish I could 'like' this a thousand times. Vadim is flawless... the height and control of this performance is astonishing.
it's the perfectly executing like 30 fouettes en pointe without travelling for me. she's incredible!
Marianela and Vadim make this look effortless which is just incredible and the fact that you can see the "who the eff is this chick" written all over Beatriz Stix-Brunell's Polish Princess' face (not to mention getting to see Romany's expressive beauty as a cygnet and in the exquisite corps de ballet) and the performance by the orchestra... just, omg there's a reason this is hands down my favorite production of Swan Lake.
His lines were stunning and he was actually flying. It was beautiful and gave me chills
Those were the cleanest turns I’ve EVER seen in my whole entire life. no 🧢
Not only the dance, but look at the decorations, the costumes.. it all creates something so surreal, like being in a completely different planet.
I don't know anything about ballet, I know that fouetté is a very complicated and iconic movement, but the fact that the prince has to have one leg raised all the time while he spins seems almost as hard as the fouetté and really impresses me.
Brilliant and exquisite! Their technical levels are off the chart, but they’re so _musical,_ individually and together!
he really looks his shoes are enchanted with feather falling. hes so graceful i mean how the heck do you slowly come down from jumping the aerodynamics are amazing i love this.
Marianela and Vadim are becoming my favorite ballet couple the more I see of them.
They're both so incredible. But omg this guy's abilities are out of this world!!
calmest fouettes i have ever seen. also very technical, I absolutely loved them!
I've always loved this part of the ballet, when I was young I was part of my city's Swan Lake's performance (I just stood near the queen during act I) but we didn't show up until the end of act III, so my friends and I always watched this part, counting the fouettes. It was wonderful, really wonderful.
When she removes her hand from his! Incredible
Thank you for posting Marianela and Vadim dancing this difficult choreography with obvious expertise but also pleasure. Both dancers are wonderful. C❤❤❤
I'm gonna cry this is so perfect
marianela is so beautiful! she makes everything look effortless
Marianela.... diosaaaa!!! What a goddess!! And Vadim is in no wise behind her ... talk about flawless.
As all-around stunning as Odile's performance was, the Prince took my breath away. He was so masterful that when Odile entered, I barely noticed. When she did, I blinked: "Who's this?"
Mind blowing. Nunez sticks like magic in one spot even as she does 7000 fouettés! Her precision and dynamic stretch into every gesture is captivating. And Muntagirov, well. Just gorgeous.
These two dancers are my literal favorites they are so good at what they do and they always look like they are enjoying themselves 😊
i'm late to this, but my gosh is Vadim absolutely fantastic!! The poise, those perfect turns! And that turn in the end, was absolute gold! So glad i got to watch this. ♥
와. . 너무 아름답다❤ 몇번이나 계속 보고있어요.
At the top of those jumps, he seemed to hover in the air for a moment! And how she did all those spins in a row and didn't get dizzy amazes me. This entire piece is danced with stunning grace and skill!
I love the prince. his facial expressions and his leaps are so light and cute
I don’t get tired of watching this! I’m really glad the ROH uploaded this bit. Goosebumps
I've never seen anything more beautiful and exquisite!!! These two magnificent dancers have completely stolen my heart!!!
