The Swan 54 is designed as a pure bluewater cruiser that is ideally suited for a couple. It uses the hull mould of the Swan 53 (a 2005 Frers design), but the rest of the boat is completely reconfigured to give a more contemporary look and feel. But is Nautor’s decision to re-use an old design a step backwards, or is it just sensible to recycle proven lines?

Man, Toby is THE master of these types of yacht's reviews.
Wonderful to see a slightly more modern interpretation of these most classic of all cruising production yachts. Refined beautiful contours on the lines and attention to detail everywhere as was only every available on a Swan. The hull shape is so far ahead of the other rubbish and it looks like it handles beautifully, although not much is said about it here. It even makes Toby look like a class act and that takes a rare degree of elegance. I would love to try one.
Awesome! Swan needed this for us cruisers who don't want a large crew :)
I agree with you Jerry. I owned a 48 and the problems you noted are the same on 48. Blue water cruising sailboat, for me, is Hallberg Rassy from Sweden. Good winds!
We have a 1975 S&S 41, ..and are addicted to our boat :) always curious to see what is coming out of Pietarsaari... great video, keep them coming including all the details of the new Swans cheers B.A.
Absolutely gorgeous!
A lovely yacht!
Very nice yacht indeed. Personally I prefer the navstation closer to the companionway but I could live with that layout ;--)
Good job. Can you show us the 78 footer?
I agreee !!!!
Nice
When are they bringing out the pilot house version?

Hopefully never.
How can being perched on a very narrow coaming with your knees around your chin in what looks like a yoga position be considered to be an ergonomic and well designed helming position? That looks massively uncomfortable!
I like the older ones with better wood work.
As a finn i can be proud of her

Thank Pekka for them!
I miss reviews from the Yachting Monthly guy who actually critiqued and didn’t vomit love over everything like it’s an advert.

darrenmoorehead I completely agree. What good is a review that doesn't talk honestly about the downsides of a boat?

you obviously have vomiting on your mind from sailing in your bathtub. You must upset your tummy from those big waves when you paddle your feet.

The guy from yachting monthly is Chris Beeson, and like you said his reviews were by far and away the best on the interweb, unfortunatley he is now spending too much time running the publication to do the video reviews, or so Graham Snook told me! I do enjoy Tobys reviews though, often not critical enough, but cant think of anyone doing it better at the moment!

Well done to Swan for making a plastic production looking yacht thats a million quid excluding VAT and options!

You can hear the humility of him. He´s addicted and yes we can understand it.

Don't think so you know. I stand to be corrected but he had the same style showing Oysters.
beautiful boat but very sparse on the inside
more like an advert than a review!

It is an advert. What do you think pays the bills over at Yachting World? Certainly not YT clicks.

When it's all praise and no criticism, it's purely an advertisement. Too much flowery language and fluff from this guy. Give me Chris Beesom instead.
It's a Bentley GT not a Range Rover. beautiful.
Or is it me, or was it designed to stand in a marina on a river or lake? Because, to descend the Atlantic from Northern Europe, to descend the African coast and "bend" the Cape of Good Hope, to continue to Chile, to bend Cape Horn, to ascend the American coast to New Earth, and to return again to Europe ...

Exactly....let's cut to the quick. Can it take the beating? Or is it an island-hopping Caribbean cruiser? Seems like with more currency in this century, manufacturers are appealing to new owners of cash wishing to experience sailing but may appeal to them with function following form. Risky as climate change brings greater uncertainty in open water.
Less Kevin McCloud and more of the actual yacht please🙄
As much as I love these videos reviewing these high end yachts I can't really see the point in them. They are just to big to be practical in the UK for the serious boater. I assume it's for someone who wants to show off to friends and sailed by a crew. My favourite/lottery boat at the moment is the Southerly 42RST. Big enough to be very comfortable and still a practical size. How many UK marinas could accomodate a 54ft fin keel boat?

I completely agree. But then again, these obviously aren't reviews for people looking for their next tub for drifting in solent. Instead, these are obviously eye candy. And I'd wager that anyone able to afford one of these wont lose much sleep over limited marina options in the UK. But I do still wish Swan would shave 10 feet off this idea.
It looks OK until you see the below deck port windows and yuck! I still the the Sparkman and Stevens swans were the best looking.

I have 1974 S&S Swan 38/001 and she takes my breath away every time I see her… and every time I am aboard her, someone stops to ask me about her. I wish the new ones had a design that stood out more as being ‘Swan’.. they’re all starting to look so similar.
this boat is not bluewater, maybe daysailer
Man the Amel 55 is so much nicer all around. Cant even compare. You have to like the ketch rigging though.
Who pays this guy?
italia yachts 15.98 is better

Also quite nice, that´s true, but they haven´t the quality of a Swan.
it's a very sterile looking sailboat on the inside. The berths and salon don't look inviting at all, and in the video there seems as if there really isn't much available natural light. On deck, the wheel placement looks decidedly uncomfortable and downright horrific to be sailing unprotected in heavy weather which often happens with "Bluewater Cruisers." Pass.

Agreed, not a real bluewater cruiser. Another toy for someone who will never use it except to park it at the slip.

+twoforty precisely.., jealousy is a curse. There is nothing wrong with the helming position and their is plenty of natural light in the saloon, and why would one park it at the slip?... you only antifoul for 2 days per year. These are armchair helmspeople who prefer a fry up to sailing.
@Antroid1

The inside shots were obviously shot at night, so you can't really say anything about available natural light based on just watching the video.
Why don't you just become an ad agency and be done with it?
Toby, thats a lot of BS that it could "sail anywhere around the world". It would never get out of the Med marina hop simply because it's not a boat that you can do anything on but sail, and that's not all that a cruising boat is.
