While Alan Moore's Swamp Thing is one of my 10 favorite comics, Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson's Swamp Thing run will always hold a special place in my heart. You understandably skimmed over David Michelinie and Nestor Redondo's time on the title, but I also really enjoyed those comics. Redondo as a Swamp Thing artist doesn't get enough appreciation.

I agree. Though Nestor Redondo's tenure on Swamp Thing often gets overlooked and largely overshadowed by Wrightson's ten-issue stint--including his debut in House Of Secrets #92--on the character (and for very good reason), Redondo's run was equally atmospheric. And Jim Aparo did a magnificent job, as always, in The Brave And The Bold #122 and #176. May Redondo and Aparo both rest in peace.

Honestly I love the strange signifiers of era throughout the len wein's swamp thing Alec just walks between the late 1800s to the retro future and through at the time modern 70s cities as he goes across the US It's a refreshingly unique look at a kinda roadtrip story that feels fun but still allows for some pretty impactful and meaningful pulpy ec horror style twist

Wein and Wrightson's initial ten-issue run on Swamp Thing from '72 to '74--including the character's eight-page debut in House Of Secrets #92 the year before--is undoubtedly one of the highpoints of the Bronze Age, bar none! May Wein and Wrightson both continue to rest comfortably in peace...they are still sadly missed (coincidentally, both of them died within a nearly six-month gap in 2017)!

Swamp thing has been one of the reasons I kept up, as much as could with comics since 72'. The art and character design by Bernie were the best of the best. Something I remember only Stan and Jack ever commented on at the time as something completely surreal and genius. Years later after following man thing thinking that character was a cheap rip off of swamp thing and finding out through time that was the exact opposite of the fact I grew up adoring both characters that have always been something of a bizarre hidden truth to their look ,stories and their origin that might both might be something of a macabre legend that exists somewhere in actual reality. 👍 Great job 👌👍

One more excellent video! Coincidentally, I’ve watched the cancelled Swamp Thing Tv Show these days, and really liked the approach of it. It’s a shame the series had to be put aside due to money problems. I intend to read again the Wein and Wrightson monster soon enough, but you already helped me remember the issues I’ve got. Keep up the good work!

@@StrangeBrainParts yeah, I was disappointed they weren’t further looked into because I felt like they could have done a lot with what he made but from what I can tell they were basically forgotten. I did really like the redemption of Anton Arcane and I felt that was a great and powerful story, especially how swap thing seeing that a man as evil as him can be redeemed made him realize mankind could be saved.

The origin of Swamp Thing, has some wiggle room, and I bet your library has it. Just like the value of the words from the person reciting a fact, the fact depends upon how many people have it. Man Thing and its creators spent some actual physical time with the creators of Swamp Thing, before publications. I point this out because it is relevant to the kids today.....or should be.
