    I do have a Gs1250 and a 1050xt at the same time. I bought GS brand new back in 2020 and Vstrom last year. I'm perhaps unlucky, but my GS has been going regularly to the dealership due to some electric problem which throws a bunch of error codes on the screen. It happened 3 times, and one time left me stranded in the middle of nowhere for 11 hours. The only reason why I still kept GS1250 is the dynamic ESA and shaft drive. it is truly a wonder to ride, and we don't have to grease the chain as daily riders. Basically, now the GS is my commute bike which I ride every day in the city, but Vstrom is for holiday long-distance trips. Once the warranty of GS has expired, I will definitely sell it. I will probably lease another GS, but definitely not repurchase it with cash. The original plan was to keep the GS for at least 5+ years, but the reliability is nowhere near the Japanese bikes. BTW, I just realised I used to watch your V Strom daily commute videos 4,5 years ago. Glad to find you again.

    Not a happy ending for a GS and thanks for sharing! Even the best machine is crap if it doesn't work properly, so I'm sorry to hear that your GS has been giving you some trouble. On the other hand they all fail sometimes for a variety of reasons. Not the best when it happens with pretty new bikes like your GS. In an older bike no one would probably complain that some rubber to let some fluid leak as it just ages like any other material. So yeah, sometimes bad things happen with our machines. I hope that your V-Strom will keep giving you more peace of mind then. And yeah, there's been that cool, red V-Strom here! Thanks for mentioning all the above. Cheers!

    So I just recived new 2023 regular Vstrom 1050. I can compare it to my 2019 Vstrom 1000 XT and new 2022 KTM 1290 SAS which was stolen after 7.000 km... So new Vstrom has very sporty suspension, much more then 2019 Vstrom 1000 ( when fast it does not jump on bumps so much like KTM with regular not upgraded suspension), really great brakes ( I know it sounds unreal but I like it more than on KTM). Slow speed it has same stability as KTM. Quickshifter works great. Seat is a bit on the hard side. Engine power is not bad, sound with Akrapovic I will upgrade next week. So all in all new one the 2023 I think listening to your video, has better suspension. Sure my head does not fall of like on crazy fast KTM but I does the job and on mointain curvy roads it is fun to ride. I dont regret buying my 3rd Vstrom. One more thing, I noticed really great build quality.

    Can the V Strom 1050XT be worse than the Benelli TRK 502?😂 I own a Benelli TRK502 which I just sold and I want to purchase a 2020 V Strom 1050XT. Can I get it wrong by moving from the TRK502 to the V Strom 1050XT? I know the horse power and torque are world apart I ride in traffic a lot but I don't cover too much distance in a day, just 50km per day. However, I would want to occasionally do long distance travel with a pillion passenger. I would also want to keep the bike for the next 5years or so. Do I take the 2017 V strom 650XT or the 2020 V Strom 1050XT?

    I think it's a wonderful model! And I might have grabbed one to save for one main issue being the WEIGHT of 544llbs wet....WHY? ...I just dont want extra weight that is not needed. I purchased a Tracer 9gt instead but even that is a bit porky. at 485llbs but damn that is almost SIXTY pounds lighter! ya know? The other thing is the seat on the 1050xt I rode for only about an hour and had a sore butt the seat is too narrow and thin I think. If they would make it lighter and more comfy? I would be really interested! So long as it has quick shifter, heated grips , cruise control ....I dont really need the 19" wheel but it would be nice to go offroad which I dont bother trying with the Tracer ....I kinda like canyon carving a LOT so the 17s front and rear seem more optimal ....plus the Tracer has more power even though not as grunty freight trainish as the 1050....mainly the weight though it is not the only bike guilty! The Kawi Versys is a total pig too as well Hondas adv bike....Maybe a Ducati Multistrada? Or X1000xr? none as light as the tracer though most have more power (not the 1050 though)

    I bought a device like this and I'm worried that it's too heavy for me and that I won't be able to get used to the V2. The usable rev. range is narrower than with an in-line four-cylinder and even than with my SV650. What about the weight when driving sporty?

  • @VToldsMotoShow

    Unless you're very, very short, it's got a pretty decent weight distribution I believe. It's not feeling heavier than its competitors - on the contrary actually. The V2 pulls really nicely from 3500 RPM all the way to the top. This is how I see it.

    Yesterday i did order the new 2023 model 1050 (regular not DE) in cherry color. 2023 model has standard quickshifter and TFT finnaly. The new regular model has 242 kg compared to 247 kg with XT model. Also I ordered Akrapovic with it. This will be my 4th Vstrom, latest was the 2019 XT model (previous design). In 2022 I did buy KTM 1290 SAS the new model but after 7.000 km it got stolen. It was brutally fast and fun to ride. I know Vstrom is not on that level but engine character is great and sound is great. Sure Suzuki is my play in hope it will have less chance to get stolen but I also liked my previos Vstrom bikes.

    The new MY's equipment makes so much more sense indeed. They seem to have raised the prices but if they add extra stuff to it - that's totally fine I guess. Spending this kind of money on an ADV bike, most of us would simply expect for example a quickshifter to beat least available, right? Sorry to hear about your KTM getting stolen. I feel that there are many similarities between these to bikes so hopefully you'll enjoy the V-Strom very much.

    I had 2016 version, which mechanically is almost identical to current. (frame, engine, suspension) For me the only thing I didn't like was clunky gearbox. If I pushed it hard on 1st gear, when switching to 2nd, it often made a terrible crunchy sound. I had to check in the mirror if the cogs aren't falling out. So it wasn't a hooligan bike. In all of other aspects, on it's price point, it was perfect. I live and commute in London, so LOTS of filtering. No issues. Now I ride a big KTM, which I really like, but it's got some reliability issues. Sometimes I miss this bullet proof Japanese engineering. I really like the new design. Who knows, maybe one day I will go back.

    I rode a Multistrada V2S - at low speed the engine was a bag of dicks, it needed to be revved to get it to make sense, and the gearshift was a little clunky. I bought a 1050XT. Suzuki knows how to make a proper gearshift. The 1050 is far better at low speed on the road then a Tenere and a Multistrada…

    I own a 2018 VStrom 1000XT and at the time when purchased new at slightly over $10K it was a ridiculously good value for the money and no complaints. I completely agree the 1050 DR Big design is mostly DR Dumb Suzuki marketing along with the sloppily designed adjustable windscreen. Instead of buiding on its strengths to make it more street-worthy motorcycle they foolishly continue chasing after much more capable off-road focused competitors. They should be targeting the adventure/sport touring market and competitors such as Versys 1000 or completely design a true adventure bike from the ground-up. Plus, Suzuki keeps ratcheting up the price thinking what the VStrom now offers is somehow justifiable in tangible value against the big dogs when in fact it is not. Suzuki's inability to move in the right direction I was needing is what moved me to a Versys1000.

  • @VToldsMotoShow

    @VToldsMotoShow

    Жыл бұрын

    When reading from the beginning, there was a picture of a Versys 1000 appearing before my eyes. Not many really care about super long suspension travel or tall handlebars and even if they do, there are dedicated bikes for that or certain versions of them like GS Adventure, Tiger Rally etc. So I see your point that others might prioritize on-road capabilities and focus on them with V-Strom being definitely one of those bikes. Too many weir decisions and therefore sacrifices for too high of a price to stay a bestseller in the category. Let's hope Suzuki notices and doesn't make us wait 10 more years.

    If you are into "all the tech", you just by a BMW GS (and add 50% more to the price). I do not get the comparison ... And the beak is OK when its on the even more ugly GS? The beauty is in the eye of the beholder - that is how it has always been and will be :) And do you really need to adjust the windshield while riding? Nobody should fiddle with such things while riding, not settings deep within a menu either. But this is the things all reviewers focus on ... not how they ride in practical use and how reliable they are, or the daily costs of owning. For some there is always only one answer: by the one with the highest price and most gizmos. Others just want to be different, or start counting their expenses. Hence there will always be need of diversity within a segment of motorcycles - as well as for everything else. No criticizing you though (I'm a subscriber) - but to the "reviewing business". After 20 years of viewing motorcycle "reviews" on KZread my opinion is that everyone is "overdoing" every little point these days to create content - it's part of the game, so just have to keep watching :)

    @W J, indeed I do. For $18,000 USD you're getting a nicely loaded R 1250 GS here, so the number actually tells us nothing. To me it's like getting a VW instead of a Mercedes nowadays - it's getting basically all the same features, but with a different name, different status symbol being way less premium. But function-wise it's all the same. GS is a different beast with it's unusual engine, front suspension and a drive shaft but a Multistada vs V-Strom - come on, the main difference is the manufacturer's name, power and the rest are details. "Ducati" sounds 2x more tempting than Suzuki to me but it doesn't mean that Suzuki cannot ride just as well or have the same features. Getting back 20 years, V-Strom was still cheaper than these at that time yet it was kicking ***. One of the reasons why I got one myself and kept for a very long time. Seriously, I believe that the base of the current V-Strom is so good that some tweaks here and there can make it a bestseller again. However, I see that Suzuki is not slowing down with price raises, so they may be shooting their own foot. Hopefully not though. Cheers!
