Thanks! My 2008 SX4 was making “that” noise. Just changed tensioner and pulley, idler pulley, and serpentine belt. Could not have done it myself without this video. So nice to sit down and have the exact parts and tools ready to do the job.

I am an retired automotive machinist, and honestly want to compliment you on an excellent well presented video. Mention the finer details, but hell you get the job done. I used a deep 14mm wrench which worked perfect. All and all job took me about an hour, including pressure cleaning before replacing new parts. I hate dirting my hands. Actually very easy job.

Just did the belt replacement only on my 2008 SX4 hatchback. A good tip is to first open the hood so you have 100 times more light in the area. I was also able to push the belt upwards to the rear of the upper pulley, then go up top and work it around the pulley from up top in the engine bay. Trust me, opening the hood and working the belt on to the uppermost pulley from above is the way to go.

I would like to first thank you for all of your SX4 videos. You have no idea how many times you have saved me. Just changed my alternator which was a pain because I had to remove the power steering pump. Now I can't get the p/s pump back in because the pulley is in the way to install the mounting bolts. Figured the only solution would be to remove the pulley. Bought a Pulley removal tool but none of the pullers fit the pulley shaft. Sorry for the long comment but please if you have the time anything helps!!! Thanks!

+Joe Machuca I've gone through a deep puddle which killed my alternator. Towed it home for 80$ 75 for a used alternator and YES, 6 hours to change it. Very difficult. You have to remove the power steering pump to get to the upper bolt on the alternator. It's possible. Good luck.

Thank you for your fast response, but I already replaced the alternator(very difficult yes). I can't get the power steering pump back in. The pulley won't allow me to put mounting bolts back in. Did you take pulley off?

I just replaced a seized alternator on my SX4. I got a used from a wreck for 80$ CAD. Its held by two bolts. The problem is the top bolt. To get to it you need to remove the power steering pump which is not easy. Tool me 4 hours start to finish. Will be posting a video on replacing the alternator very soon.

Thanks for that....I had mine done by a local shop who told me it would be 2.4 hrs. due to having to disconnect part of the intake manifold to get access to the alternator which cost $206 just for the part {and $31 for new drive belt} (saw them online for $112 to $135 or so and up). The above video did not seem to show having to mess with the manifold. I am planning to check with a Suzuki dealer for their price: $260 "lifetime" warrantee re-manufactured + $200 for installation ($793 for Suzuki new alternator!!?)

This is actually a common problem with the SX4 model as well as the Grand Vitara, but in reality has more to do with the parts that it does with the car itself. To those of you who wish to do this replacement job yourself, there are things you can do to help the pulley and belt last much longer and remain in great condition so as to not need such frequent replacements, which of course will also save you money. There are a couple instruction videos that will explain how you can do this. I will post them here for you so that you can check them out. Pulley - kzread.info/dash/bejne/npqT1datn8Xfqbw.html And Belt kzread.info/dash/bejne/loaMzdZvdMrPZM4.html

@@marketingmajor8126 thanks for the reply, the problem was the new belt was coming off and the pulleys chew the outside part of it after I replaced a noisy idle pulley, I was thinking it was missing a shim because something hit the floor when I pulled out but I didn’t find anything. I checked the others pulleys and they looked fine and aligned but that wasn’t true, the water pump pulley was walking in and out on high rpms,i replaced the water pump and the problem is gone
