Always take the negative off first when removing the battery and putting the red one on when installing it.

Absolutely fantastic video.. I appreciate this so much. I am not a "vehicle guy", I'm a "computer guy" who happens to be a single Dad so I don't have the luxury of owning a bike AND taking it to the shop, so any time I can do something myself, it's awesome. I have a '95 Suzuki Intruder VS800GL. I've had it for about 5 years now. It's been in my garage sitting the last 3 due to surgery on my spine. The only major thing I need to do it change the battery. I am also going to try changing the oil and clutch fluid, then I should be pretty good to go. I truly appreciate this video. Thank you.

Good video. Love my intruder. Wouldn't trade it for the world. Low maintenance. Power. Perfect for both interstate travel and around the town. Great tips about removing the top cover from the battery box and using a spacer. Thanks.

I HAD one of those and I must say that is the stupidest place to put a battery, and good luck finding one of those side post batteries. Also ALWAYS undo the negative cable first, only exception is if you have a positive grounded system.

@@DoityourselfMotorcyclerepairs So, to remove the battery we always remove the NEGATIVE cable first and then connect the NEGATIVE cable once replaced, right? This will be my first time ever changing the battery so I want to do it right. Thanks! - Roni

It helps keep the center of gravity low on the bike. It makes it hard to jump start for sure though.

Dang you made that look easy. I was not aware of the plastic top cover, I had always dropped the battery first then cussed and struggled with those short cables. I’ll now have to take a closer look at my 1999. Thanks.

I need to get a battery that has the connections on the side instead of the front as I have to go "through" the frame to get a tool on the post mounting screw to remove the terminal leads prior to removing the battery. Live and learn. I have an '07 S83 Boulevard and LOVE IT! Between that and my '10 Road King I got the best for towns and cruises, respectively.

Según tengo entendido, al retirar la batería primero se debe desconectar la tierra, y luego positivo, y al colocarla se pone primero positivo y al final negativo, para no tener chispazos, un saludo.

I got tired of fighting the battery and eventually clipped the cables in half, and put connectors, now i just take the side panel off and unhook the connectors and the battery slides out. (I have a air filter replacement for the stock box so there is more room)

HE IS DEAD WRONG REGARDING what lead is to come off first!!! ALWAYS START BY REMOVING THE NEGATIVE FIRST!!!!! And when you are re-installing the battery, you will connect the Positive 1st, then the Negative. This is the Golden Rule if you don't want to short out your system or battery!
