If your Suzuki 2.5 Horsepower Outboard has a weak tell tale pee stream, here is how to fix it. In this video I show you one hidden weak spot and the steps to figure out and fix your weak stream. If you do the normal checks and can't fix the problem, take a look at the water tube grommet at the neck of the mid-housing just above the tell tale outlet. It seems to be a bottle neck for collecting blockages.

I can't believe that I watched this entire video. I don't own an outboard engine. Man, you're good!
i blew through the evil grommet hole on mine just now and a sand poo oozed out. You saved a stranded sailor. Your going to heaven for sure xx.
Great video, so clear! (And love that a fisherman is doing his engine maintenance in his living room - wouldn't go down too well in this household!)
I recently bought an early model 2.5 Suzuki. It does not have a pee hole, only 2 exhaust holes which spit a bit. In my case I removed the thermostat, just right next to the thermostat is a small return hole which was blocked. Using a ti wrap as on your video helped to remove sand an whatever came out. Now it cools as new. Same principle but just a bit different with early 2006 model. A huge thanks for your great tutorial it helped a lot!
This helped me A LOT! I was put off by the length as so many utubers take an eternity to tell a two minute story but not the case here. Ten thumbs up!! I have the old one with the dribble btw
Best final :15 seconds EVER. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA....Steve--you're awesome...i needed the grin this morning....stay safe, buddy...
Commenting on behalf of my husband Dave: "Thank you so much for your video. I found it very helpful in resolving my non-peeing problem. The end of one of my impeller blades broke, sending rubber bits up to the motor and causing a clog in the same angled rubber piece where you had your clog. Now my Suzuki 2.5 hp motor is peeing great!"
You need to make a Suzuki DF 2.5 playlist on your channel. These little motor repair videos you've done are great. Super helpful
Thank you so much , before you tutorial I just stared at the motor in dread at what I could accidentally do knowing very little about my outboard . You deserve a big pat on the back for your efforts . A big thanks from France .
Thank you, you are the first guy who tells the whole story... lot of smart thinking... thanks for sharing!
You have made an excellent tutorial, thank you so much. I'm just starting the troubleshooting on a drippy telltale on the newer df2.3 model. After watching your highly informative video I now have an idea of what I'm getting into and where I should start. Thank you again!
I used to keep a small bicycle pump in my fishing boat, w/ a piece of modified shrink tube to fit in the ports. Much easier than blowing into it and the back pressure from the pump will tell you if something is blocked. Good on you for fixing it yourself, it's important to know how things function should you need to do something while out on the water. Stay safe, stay healthy and thanks for the vid!👍
That was one of the best how-to-videos ever. You really hit the important details.
My 2.5 Suzuki is only three years old. Only lightly used on my dingy for my sail boat during our very short Maine summers. So I didn't think there could be any where near enough hours on it to need a new impeller. I followed instructions from your KZread video and found a salty clog in the power head. Cleaned it out. Back to peeing like a race horse!! I wouldn't have known how to fix it if it wasn't for your video. Many, Many thanks !!
I just bought a brand new Suzuki 2.5 outboard and after the first day out I had a weak tell tale. I tried your solutions offered in your video and it worked! Thank you so much. My particular issue was a little shell, I believe that is what it was but it was very small, blocking the tell tale outlet nozzle.
🤣🤣🤣 Love how you said “shift hole” with a pause and looking into the camera that was Awesome
My outboard now has a very healthy stream. Thanks for the video.
Fantastic, first day out this season after lockdown, Suzuki stopped peeing! Everything I need to know to fix it good job.
Great video. I was struggling with getting the lower unit reinstalled for an hour (and I am no rookie wrenching on outboards). As soon as I saw the section with showing the driveshaft guide, it clicked. I had this new to me Suzuki 2.5 finished and running within 5 minutes.
Thanks so much for this video. I have a 2009 DF 2.5 which I bought second hand. I started it first time after oils change and no water came out. Turned out the problem was the nozzle that was totally stuck with salt, sand etc. I also went through all the steps mentioned in the video to make sure there wasn't any other issues. Pretty easy job with these instructions and now the engine is running & peeing perfectly. 😊👍
I hit the thumbs up before the video even started. Killer find man, I have the same motor new so this is a great video. Better than Suzuki tech for help with this motor! Stay well Steve, NCKA.
Cool vid Steve, very interesting and informative. Tight lines 😎
Thanks for the video it is been a great help i’ve just had my outboard serviced and it came back with the same problem and this was from a professional outboard mechanic
Thanks man! I have been going crazy losing sleep on this now I know!
You did a really nice job on this - thanks!
Nice job, tearing down and re-installing. One extra hint, when re-inserting shaft. Once gear shaft and water tube is aligned you can turn prop slowly to align shaft spline to engine. No jamming needed.👍 Looking to buy a small engine like this.😀
Great video, Thanks for the information. Got my 2,5 ponys peeing like a racehorse again because off your video!
Awesome video. Thank you very much. Tried and replaced many parts. I will be removing the power head and clearing out the pickup tube next!
Hey Steve, have you ever thought of putting your backup 2.5 on your backup kayak? I love my 2.5 Suzuki. Glad you made this video. My 1st season will be next season on my jonny boat bass 100. Be safe..🙏👍
tell tale obstruction. 10/10 thanks bro.
Thanks. Good video and explanation!
Excellent video. I have one these engines and got a lot info from this. Thankyou.
🤣😂🤣 Truly enjoy your warped and twisted sense of humor! 🤣😂🤣
That ending! Hahahaha! Bravo!
Excellent video.
Excellent detailed, helped so much thanks.
Wonderful video
This video helped me. Thanks!!
Wish you had a dt5, great video.
Great tutorial !
An excellent video thank you
Thank you for sharing!
Great job !! Thank You.
This is a great video! Thanks a lot. You mention on your video that you test the water temperature coming from the tel tale - how hot is too hot ? Should the water be just warm during normal operation ?
Sub'd - amazing setup - have you ever considered going electric with solar? Or is the HP not strong enough?
Thanks for the great video. Very helpful and easy to understand. Are there any common problems I might run into changing the thermostat on this motor as a newbie? Thanks again.
Please change the 2 anodes,........ $ 6.09 dollar each , has one inside the engine and one in outside the gear case. Thanks for sharing your experience.
That's me after couple beers
i have a 2008 df2.5, when I took apart the upper half i quickly realized the rubber gourmet was pushed outa its slot, I assume its from being a little forceful putting the lower end in 20 times having to fix a mangled drive shaft. also my model doesnt have that rubber passageway just one water outlet. Thanks for the video helped alot with upper disassembly!!
Thanks Steve!!! I BET, that my Suzuki 140 does the same thing!!! Sometimes it pee's good and sometimes not, have put in 2 or 3 water pumps and they never look damaged, and this happens every now and then!!! What a poor design! I like my 140, but I bet it has the same thing! Thanks again!!!! Tight Lines!!! w.
Good job👍😎
By the way.. Thanks for the vid!.... Good help for all.. Thanks!
Yes very helpful.
Awesome master
Thank you bro 🎉
Wow thanks almost sent mine to a mechanic could not find info till this ! Could that be cleared without taking it apart?
Pissing on the motor😂😂😂😂
Wow! A tiny shell was found after you worked hard on a lot. How can I get the motor to do the basic tilt UP? I loosened nut on upper hinge but can’t get the propeller end to go UP at all. The propeller will end up smashed in shallows if I can’t figure out the tilt… so I can’t risk boating with it until I can get it to do a basic tilt up (or it is maybe called putting the trim UP?).
Very informative video! I have an 2008 Suzuki 2,5 hp 4 stroke. It does not have a hole with the nozzle where the peehole are on your motor. Just flat surface. I guess some early motors before 2009 did not use a pee hole. It would be nice to have one though. Is it an option to drill a small hole into the chamber prior to the "rubber grommet with a small hole" as you show in the video? Just take out the pee a little bit earlier! Thanks/ Leif from Sweden
Thank you very much.....
Nicely done. The video would have been better if you had better lighting. Today I noticed decreased output from the telltale in my 2.5 and noticed a piece of brown organic material when I unscrewed it.
Is there a gasket between the leg and the power head. I think I might have the same problem at idle the water stops but at half throttle it flows like a champ.
Do you find the gasket between the middle unit and the power head to be critical? I damaged mine while checking that rubber elbow (real problem was broken impeller) and I ended up ripping out the rest of that paper gasket under power head so it’s sit even. But now I have a huge leak from power head that is hard for me to believe is from where that thin gasket was…?
From the 1st day I got my 2.5hp it never 'streamed' water. It only spat out water occasionally and only when it warmed up. I think this is mentioned in my manual. I got mine in 2010, so maybe the water cooling system was different then? Compared with your pea stream I can't believe mine has never overheated!
I went thru the bottom unit rebuilt lol still not properly peeing, do you have a link for the O ring?
The old two port water tube grommet trick!!
Now I know who can service my Suzuki 2.5 when I purchased one for my Nucanoe
Really superb video, thanks for taking the trouble to impart your knowledge and experience.
The problem I have is lining up the water tube, very limited space. When I got it back together, I had no water pumping out. Don’t know what I’ve done wrong
Also make sure you grease the impeller good with marine grease.
Should the motor pee as soon as you start the engine or after the thermostat opens. I have a DF 2.5 that has sat for 5 years. I cleaned the fuel tank replaced the carb with a new one and new spark plug. Engine starts first pull but no pee anywhere. I have it far enough in the water bucket. So just wondering if I need to remove the lower and start looking at things.
Doctor had me take a pill once a day to pee like the second video. Never worked.
I get oil through the tail section when the water pump is off. How is this sealed when the shift rod goes through the hole of the water pump again when everything is assembled. I cannot find an oil seal or anything on a part list.
thank you. I am a big fan of ur vids. my 3.5 hp outboard, when I switch gear from N to F, it takes off like a rocket. LoL. it takes off way too strong, fast and rough. Do you have any solution?(of coarse at the idle speed)

I looked at this video to solve the clogged pee system for my first break in trip on my 2.5 lol. Anyhow I will think it's idling too fast. But like I said I'm a noob.
You need to shoot some pressurized air into the “tell tale” hole after every outing to flucs the debris out.
Question: Does it only pee when in forward drive or will in pee in neutral? Thanks a lot!!!
So how do you fix the stupid bottle neck? I bout a 6 hp Suzuki that started this crap before 1 hr of the 10 hr break in. What’s the fix?! Can you team the piece out? I don’t wanna take the engine down all the time.
You should change those anodes
Just done mine, problem they sent me the wrong grommet for the water inlet. Had to use the old one which is in good shape
It rolls. I wish i bought the 5 hp though for more fun speed.
You do realize your vids thumbnail looks like you're peeing on the motor...right?

🤣👌
Well I followed your instructions and removed the leg . Imagine the anti-climax when I discovered that the rubber grommet that you describe with a very small hole that you took the seashell out of does not exit in my motor .. It only has the bigger hole . I wonder how the tell tale works ? Also , mine does not have the plastic telltale screw .
@Toob41
Жыл бұрын
Yup. Older models don't have the plastic screw telltale, only the two breather holes and they just sputter, they don't pee like a racehorse!
@bustermaw
Жыл бұрын
@@Toob41 Yes , and when I took the leg off I broke the gasket and it took me a month to get a new one here in France . The supply chain seems to be breaking down .
Yes ! Awesome ! LOL !
At 4:18 what is the right name of the tell tale plastic nozzle ? Mine cracked off

Water Indicator Union. Suzuki Part# 61155-97J01-000.($1.18). They're nylon. Pretty tough. Never seen one break. Just tighten snug w/ fingers only. Brownspoint Marine, Boats.net, etc. all stock parts. I have had fine service from Megazip, which used to ship oem parts direct from Japan. Now they stock nearly all parts here. Shpg. is a bit dear on all these sites, so try to put order together of all spare parts/gaskets you may need in coming yrs. Good luck.

i have a qustion: should the water coming out of the tell tale hole be warm or hot ? anyone?
Do you go trolling ???
Why did redundancy go away, I's pay extra for a second pisser.....

Early 🤪🤪🤪🤪
How the older Suzuki 2.5 pee?
My 2.5 don’t have a pee hole there
HI Steve... I am going to send you something that might work better than a zip tie. an address please.
I don’t have that pee hole
wtf was that thumbnail
Awesome
