There is so many amazing free campgrounds in CA, but many are in the desert areas. While the desert is fun, I prefer non-desert camping, especially in the summer. This is a great option that is not desert, and currently open in 2021. There are some great free dispersed camping options in the state, but I was trying to focus on an actual established campground that was free.

Big Sur, Carmel, and Monterey are some of my favorite places to visit. The views along the Pacific Coast Highway are just spectacular.

I'm interested in doing some car camping this fall. I was wondering about your mattress. I think you had a double mattress that fit in the back of your SUV in the past. Do you still use this? I have 2 small/medium dogs and thought this would be good to fit us all in.

There are two main companies: weather tech or heat shield. There might be more, but those are the two I found
