There should be a horror movie about the ultimate Woofer, who's being chased down by a psychotic hunter who wants to kill him. But in the end, the pupper beats him and Rips his throat out.
Fun fact: the script was originally written for Susie and the other students to be 12-year-olds, but Dario's father (I think his father worked for the studio or something?) refused to use children in such gorey scenes, so they agreed on a cast of 20-year-olds instead, but Dario still wanted to give the vibe of a child experiencing this, hence the door knobs are unusually high and in some scenes, the students act almost childlike (such as that one dancer saying the thing about snakes and Sarah sticking her tongue at her).

my absolute favorite part of this movie is when sara is trying to climb through that little window and the killer is trying to open the latch, there’s no music. just her panting and the scraping sounds coming from the door. it feels so much more tense because that’s what she hears- she’s not listening to some sick electronica, that’s what the room sounds like. it’s so creepy to me and it genuinely made me feel more stressed than i would have if there was music
@1bollz924

I think this is the Blu ray remastered version, which is the only version avaible because the original one get destroyed. In fact, this Blu ray version is amazing and it required a long and hard work. The original version was more "grain 70s" look but the color are quite the same. I had an Italian VHS version and I can tell you for sure that the quality was low.

I saw the remake of Suspiria, and I really enjoyed it. It didn't do any cheap jump scares, instead creating genuine suspense until the actual horror scenes happened. The scene where the Susie dances and a dancer named Olga, in another room, starts doing the same movements but horribly exaggerated, making her bones snap and twist like a balloon animal, was one of the most horrifying scenes in the movie, and left a big impression on me. True, the movie isn't nearly as artistic with color as the original (other than the "Red Death" scene in the climax) but I rank it far above its contemporary horror movies. Suspiria 2018 genuinely scared me. Not many modern horror movies do that anymore, especially remakes.

One detail/pattern I love is the way that there are always at least two actors framed in each scene (with a few exceptions), so when there's only one character it usually means they'll die next and it also creates an atmosphere of loneliness and isolation.

@jammerc64

I have no idea why people find bright red blood fake 😃 It's actual colour of blood coming from arteria! Because it's oxygenated. Only blood coming from veins is darker as it contains carbon dioxide hence is already toxic. Still, modern films get blood way too dark and stylized, to the point victims look like messed up with plum jam, not gore 😃

A popular 20th-century genre, Giallo (pronounced "dgallo," like "jello" with an A) is Italian for "yellow" (derived from the yellow covers of mystery shorts and novels that were popular in early 20th century Italy.) In Italy itself, Giallo just means anything mystery, thriller and/or horror; unrelated to a specific region or country. Gialli (plural) are generally a broad blend of different influences (American noir, Gothic fiction, German Krimi...) and genres (horror, mystery, erotica, thriller...), which results in films and novels that are unclassifiable by conventional standards. Usually, they are macabre, shocking, exploitative horror-mystery thrillers with a heavy emphasis on gore and atmosphere; supernatural elements are not as common though. Typical tropes include excessive gore, intoxicating camera work, surreal coloration, pronounced sound effects and ambient noises, premonitory-to-cacophonous music, attractive and highly sexualized leads, a masked and often gloved killer (generally dressed in black leather clothes), point of view shots, a visiting foreigner witnessing the atrocities, skeptical and unsympathetic authorities ,minimalistic and superficial narrative, and general excessiveness. Sadly, It's virtually uncited for its' influence on horror movies. As a wannabe Italian, it's the only horror subgenre I had known before discovering Dead Meat.

There came, from Italy, a vast amount of movies that really needs to be addressed among your kill count. Fulci, Deodati, Bava as well as Argento were avid producers of flesh ripping horror amid the 1980's. I would say that "the Hills Have Eyes" also are worthy contenders for the count. Both the original and the reboot. Take care.

This film is a total fever dream. Everything from the wild colors, heavy use of shadows, and the sound / music production.
I would love to see the Texas Chainsaw Massacre Franchise on the Kill count Next 👍

Texas chainsaw is good until you get to the newer movies, i personally didnt like the newer ones. But id like to see james cover TCM.
I'm inlove with the colorful cinematography
I remember when this came out. It was terrifying. After a few not-so-scary horror movies that followed The Exorcist, this really had an effect. Especially when seeing it in one of those old movie houses that had seen better days. Thanks for your video.
its so cool to see 70s haircuts in such HD

Dario Argento does for jewel tones what Wes Anderson does for pastels.
Wait wait wait a minute, don't just glance over that little dance you did, we need to see a little more of that please. That was adorable. Don't think your little kill count made us forget.
I fucking LOVE Jessica Harper! She was amazing in Phantom of the Paradise! Definitely need to watch this one for myself before I watch this kill count!

thats the power of 35mm & 70mm film with the lenses that were invented in the 70's for low light conditions. films like Escape From New York and Halloween wouldn't have been possible without them :)
The quality of this film seems really good for 1977.

I was binge watching this channel a couple months back, and I came across this video. I take his recommendations seriously, and when he said to watch it before watching the kill count, I listen. I am a poor college student so buying it legally is not always practical, but a couple days ago, we finally watched it in my horror Film studies, and now here I am.
Kinda fun that this takes place in a ballet school, not exactly a common location for a horror movie and as a ballet dancer it’s fun to see

peep more giallo afterwards, directors like Dario Argento, Mario Bava and Lucio Fulci are great ones to look out for.
Hey James! Are you ever going to cover the sequels to “Suspiria”, “Inferno” (1980) and “The Mother of Tears” (2007)? Or the 2018 remake??
@vizalloteafilter

Great work guys! As an Italian subscriber I couldn't be more glad to see one of our godfathers of horror appreciated so much. If I could recommend others films from Dario they are : Inferno - Tenebræ -Phenomena - The Bird With The Crystal Plumage - The Cat O'Nine Tails, and his masterpiece Deep Red. Also, search the work of Lucio Fulci and Mario and Lamberto Bava. Thank you for some of the best YT content!
This was the first horror movie I convinced my non-horror loving friend to watch because it wasn't scary. Needless to say, there were many questions at the end of that viewing. That being said, she's now letting me direct the horror movie marathon we'll have on Halloween. Thanks, Suspiria.
