Same! Honestly some nurses have seen the procedures more than some doctors, and they know how to handle the situation, it's not like in med school they teach us anything else about it that nurses don't know, the only difference is that we are allowed to do it and practice, while nurses just watch, but in an emergency crisis you really value the time, so if the doctor is nowhere to be seen, then the nurse should definitely intervene and save the patient

How would we not notice
Absence of the assigned doctor during a crisis and a head nurse acting up in place, and the doc has the balls to say the nurse isn't supposed to do that.
So, I texted my mom who is a former ER, current OR nurse in sweden, and according to her... If a nurse has significant experience and the operative procedure results in life being preserved, the nurse will face investigation, but not be suspended nor loose their license. If however the patient dies, regardless of if the operative procedure was the COD or if the procedure was done in too late of a stage, the nurse may be subject to suspension or losing their licence. So basically, emergency knows no law if it means a life can be saved. However, if permanent damage is sustained there is the possibility that the nurse will be charged with grievous bodily harm or medical malpractice.
If the Dr hadn't done something like that to my family member and I lost them because the nurses weren't allowed to save the life of someone I loved. You'd better believe I'd sue the hospital and demand the Dr be fired or I'd go after the Dr for murder.
I just did a first aid course and it's crazy how limiting it can be to not be the step above. I'm not allowed to pick a splinter out with tweezers because that would be considered surgery.

That is insane. Even paramedics are trained to intubate. It's completely irresponsible and idiotic not to have both doctors and nurses capable of something as life saving as intubation.
@TheKabukimann
9 ай бұрын
In many countries nurses are allowed and trained to do intubation when ordered by a doctor or if its nescessary. Sadly in the US because you can get sued for anything for millions of dollars they dont allow non doctors to do so. The Tracheotomy is very risky if you arent trained in it, because you can easily hit an artery.
@rogueninja4719
4 ай бұрын
@@TheKabukimann I like to point out that intubating and Tracheotomy are 2 different things (but related). Intubating is when the tube gets inserted through the nose or mouth while Tracheotomy (or as they say in the clip, "Cranking") is when a cut/slit is made through the trachea for the tube to be inserted into. Im pretty sure paramedics, docs AND nurses are trained in intubating but only docs are allowed do the tracheotomy (unless under VERY specific situations almost anybody could do it from my understanding BUT VERY SPECIFIC).

The editing of this video is so choppy. The first clip is from the most recent episode of Med, and the next clip is repeated
Fairly sure their are certain procedures that nurses can do if the situation deams it ie this sort of situation! (Obviously different levels in nursing as well like head nurse and so on). It’s not like open heart or open brain surgery!! Personally I would have responded to the doctor and told him I guess I should have let her die then as you was swanning of to another floor where you wasn’t needed!!
