Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico suffered life-threatening injuries when he was shot and wounded on Wednesday (May 15), the government office said.
Reuters video showed police detaining the suspect and he can be seen handcuffed on the floor following the attempted assassination.
A Reuters witness heard several shots fired after the government meeting in Handlova, northeast of the capital Bratislava.
Fico, 59, was rushed to hospital and was being transported by helicopter to the city of Banska Bystrica for urgent treatment.-- Report from Reuters
