    Derick Pham the rice itself might be more expensive than regular white sushi rice and they probably had to work harder on their seasonings and sauces than any regular sushi place to not end up with anything too bland so i guess it would explain the similar prices. you're not just paying for the ingredients, you're also paying for the work.

    Elesse two of them mentioned that they wanted the sushi to taste like fish. I think that there's more to wanting vegetarian options than just "I want vegetables". People think of fish when they think of sushi, so it's nice that this restaurant satisfies that fish craving while also being vegetarian

  • @kel2infinity

    @kel2infinity

    6 жыл бұрын

    jkapich Then why is the title just trying vegan sushi? Those ones I mentioned are vegan. Vegans should be used to not being able to have things that taste like meat all the time. That's like the point of being vegan, not eating meat. So if you go vegan, you should be prepared to abandon the taste of meat unless you plan on eating meat imitations.

One of them is a pescatarian instead of vegetarian/vegan for the pure fact that she loves sushi and hasn’t been able to find a vegan friendly version that she’s actually liked. She mentioned, “I’m glad I was able to find vegan sushi and it wasn’t just a sad cucumber roll” she’s tried other versions before, she just didn’t like them as much as she liked these. They never said that these were the ONLY vegan sushi rolls to ever exist. Lol I swear, everyone finds something to knit pick at. Just watch the video and enjoy it, if you don’t, give it a thumbs down and go on your merry way.

    Well..if it doesnt have sushi rice its simply NOT sushi..sushi itself is the word for the rice mixed with vinegar. The word vegan sushi is redundant because sushi doesnt have anything to do with fish at all. Even if everyone thinks that dont pander to the ignorant instead educate them on the actual facts.

  • @IronOxcide

    sushi has not now nor has it ever meant raw fish, fish or even meat of any kind. sushi is not only the name of the dish but also the name of how it is made. there are literally millions of sushi combinations, and tons of those are vegan without even trying to be trendy. like this comment to keep it up top and educate those who don't know.

    Its very difficult and expensive to raise tuna in aquaculture due to their predatory nature and requirements on currents etc. and almost nobody bothers with that - besides aquacultures have like every large-scale animal cultivation their own problems. Tuna has a particular high body temperature and swarms can hence be tracked by infra red cameras via helicopter and satellites, how most of tuna is captured in large quantities, often illegal. The number of tuna in the mediterranian has sunken by well over 90%, in the pacific by 97%.

    Rolls are actually a type of sushi called maki-zushi. There are many forms of sushi you know, not just nigiri-zushi. Though the American style of maki-zushi is a lot different than the Japanese style.

  • @Harry-tt6be

    @Harry-tt6be

    I know the difference between maki and rolls. I'm talking these rolls developed by Japanese Americans (and these are not makizushi) that were developed in LA, US so they are not genuine Japanese food and definitely not sushi.

    xPumpkinWitchx sushi doesn't actually meaning "with rice", no one knows the entymology of the word, but it's though to mean "vinegar rice." The kanji doesn't help btw because it's ateji, the kanji are used only for their sound and not meaning.

    There ARE such things as Japanese sushi rolls. If you mean that THESE PARTICULAR rolls are not Japanese, then you're correct. (Never have I ever even SEEN black rice. I hate it when people put non-white rice on sushi rolls. I understand stuff like brown rice is healthier, but still...) Probably the biggest notable difference between Japanese rolls and American rolls are that Japanese sushi rolls have the rice INSIDE the roll with the filling, and American rolls have it on the outside.

    Of course it could be called sushi, if you actually know what sushi refers to. If you think sushi means raw fish, you're mistaken, that's sashimi, sashimi is put into sushi, which is a seasoned rice. Sushi does not have to have sashimi in it to be sushi.

  • @Sushininja10

    @Sushininja10

    Well, the rice is on the outside, the rice isn't even white, and there's a ton of fillings. So this doesn't really classify as JAPANESE sushi, but these rolls fit the definition of sushi in general.

    Cultural appropriation isn't when you eat food from a different culture. Stop being ignorant.

    ERFWaaHR2 I believe the term cultural appropriation (and racism) is being used way to liberally but they do exist. My cultural appropriation comment was a joke but still they fucked up sushi so bad that I lost appetite for the whole day.

    She... SPECIFICALLY... said "alternative". Which you even quoted lmao. She's not had veggie burgers, or fried chick'n, or any of the other stuff that vegetarians and vegans use as meat substitutes. Not that's she's never had a vegetarian meal in her life...

    She said alternative... meaning she hasn't had alternatives for foods that usually contain meat in them...

    just to clarify: a vegetarian alternative can just be the exact same meal without the meat. A proper statement wouldve been a meat substitute.

    I’m vegetarian and no this isn’t sushi because sushi refers to a particular preparation of rice. Looks good though, and definitely sushi inspired but TECHNICALLY it isn’t
