This was the show where Simon learned a valuable lesson about judging people by their outward appearances. She was a soloist in her church when she tried out. When the show was done with the top finalists, Susan got her wish and sang with Ellen Page and it was beautiful.

Watch Charlotte and Jonathan's first audition on BGT 2012. When Simon saw Jonathan he said "Just when you think things couldn't get any worse". BGT has posted that video several times, each has millions of views, one has over 130 million views. It's fantastic, and yes, people were crying.

Karen Lovett The whole format of the show though is that it mixes joke contestants (who think they are way more talented than they are) with real amazing talents. I’m sure the show realized what it had and sent her out after a couple of pretty good performers, right when the judges and audience would be expecting a ‘joke’. And she had a lot of the signs of one. The producers must have been dying laughing backstage when they caught that Simon eye roll on camera before she started.

The first time I watched this video I was in tears, not just the beauty of the song and her voice but the way she didn't stand down and she triumphed. Of course, that talent is God given but regardless of whether we have such a talent we shouldn't stand down from our dreams. I've watched it multiple times whenever I've needed some inspiration or a pick me up. I'd hope this would bring so many people to a realization. Even if she'd ended up not having such a great voice, she should never have been ridiculed. BTW, I don't believe the initial reactions of the judges and the audience was necessarily set up in advance but I do believe there was probably a bit of manipulative camera work on the audience. I'm so glad that you (India) reacted to this and I enjoyed watching your perception of it.

They are not going to give that kind kind of reception if they don’t like the performance. Read her story, it is amazing. She has become a multimillion. Susan only came in second to a teen age dance group. They were good but there was a late negative last minute media backlash against Susan that cost her the win. Didn’t matter, she has had an amazing career and made a ton of money and has millions of devoted fans. She has performed all over the world for heads of state including the Pope and the Queen of England.

I don't mind saying I've watched that video a million times over the years, and I love all of Susan Boyle's music , every album, every song! You should a least list to the recorded version of I Dreamed A Dream, proof that Susan Boyle is one of the best and greatest singers in the world. It took all that time until 2009 for her to be discovered, who knows how famous she would have been in the 80's and the 90's..

I think the best Britain's Got Talent audition was of "Jonathan and Charlotte". Poor young 17 yr old Jonathan was laughed at and ridiculed because of his heavy size but then he ended up showing just how talented he was. It made me cry.

Susan Boyle could have been discovered years earlier as she appeared singing in one of Michael Barrymore's TV shows. Unfortunately Michael did what a lot of people did during Susan's life and that was to take the piss! He made fun of her for a cheap laugh which is what Michael was all about. Here's to Susan, who plodded on in her own way and made it to the top x

They don't give the audience instructions. I truly believe that. This was the most amazing moment ever on Britain's Got Talent. It taught the judges a lesson in humility. She came in second. She has a successful singing career now but it is also suffering from Asperger's disease. She still lives in the same modest house she had is the same person that she has always been. She has gotten to sing for the queen which was why she really wanted.
