I was still living there at the time. What memories. Johnstown taught me so much about having faith and starting over.

Johnstown native here. I was 17 at time of flood. This video would have been much better and more respectful if it showed all actual pictures of JOHNSTOWN instead of being interspersed with pictures of other flooded cities. I assure you there are no palm trees in Johnstown, PA, nor were there satellite dish receivers in 1977.

We lived in Richland at this time. My husband worked at the A&P on Scalp Ave. We had just brought our premature twins home from the hospital a few days prior to this. My husband was working the night shift that night and I was home alone with the babies. I will never forget the lightening that night. People were coming into the store all night long seeking refuge. Luckily, only our basement got some water in it but my best friend lost her home. We decided to leave Johnstown in 1986 due to the lack of job opportunities.

The 1889 flood/Dam break killed over 2000 I remember reading. They found bodies as far as Cincinnati.Tragically, that disaster was totally preventable.Failure of damn was due to bad maintenance basically

I moved to Johnstown in 1978; my mother's family lived there and my mother still does. I went to school and graduated with Frank.

I was a child at this time in Johnstown. While my memories are vague and fleeting bits it still gives me chills when I think about this day. I lived off of Ohio street and luckily up a hill so my home was ok. But I will never forget walking down to Ohio street and seeing the cars and chunks of pavement as big as school buses turned upside on the road.

I lived in Ferndale. This was the week of the jubilee. My grandpap drove me home about 10 because it was pouring. I actually slept thru all that rain. Aah to be a preteen again.
