Surviving one week in Mauritius with @suitcasemonkey

Join us in this casual look back to our time in Mauritius with ‪@SuitcaseMonkey‬ Beautiful scenery, rum, beaches, dodgy hotels, Port Louis the capital, Seven Coloured Earths, Botanical Gardens (yes again), waterfalls, speed boats and more.
The hotel we stayed at, (not recommended) is here. As mentioned, the beach is nice and its central in the island so easy to get places so maybe worth checking out the other hotels in the area. But I'm sure there's loads of other places with their own benefits. www.booking.com/hotel/mu/anel...

I like your usual format on Suitcase Monkey, but I also like this format for Carry-on Monkey ...feels informal, like catching up with a friend after their return. Maybe keep up this format for the slightly "less epic" trips? nice way to get content out more quickly, but then we still get the treat of your more cinematic-style videos when they are ready.

The shot of the monkey with the mountain ranges in the background was beautiful! Great video as always! Really looking forward to your Morocco video. I would've gone if you hadn't inspired me to go to Japan 🤷‍♀️😂

Haha. I'm not actually gonna be making a video for Morocco as I'm gonna be enjoying myself with the group! (I actually get to fully enjoy a holiday haha) There is an early Suitcase Monkey video from Morocco though, pre voice over days! kzread.info/dash/bejne/d3d7sth8YNScgMo.html

For the motion sickness, I have the same issue (both boats and plane flights) but I recently found the one medicine that completely nullifies the nausea for me. Where I live it's called "Postafen" can be bought over the counter here, it contains meclizine hydrochloride and is a histamine H1 antagonist used in the treatment of motion sickness, vertigo, and nausea. I take one tablet 1 hour before the boat ride or flight, the effect lasts for 12 hours and the only side effect I notice is that it makes me a little tired. But on the upside, ZERO nausea. It's like day and night compared to before and all other medicines I've tried. From some small googling, the UK version of this medicine is (aptly) called "Sea-Legs", it also contains meclizine hydrochloride and similarly is a histamine H1 antagonist. Of course you should probably call your doctor just to check though if you think it's worth trying it. :)

I also suffer from motion sickness and can recommend something that’s not medicinal but really works. I bought these bracelets that look like the sponge ones tennis players use to wipe out their sweat. They have a small ball that presses on the wrist and prevents motion sickness. They’re amazing, I wore them for 6 hours on a boat trip and no sea sickness at all!

My husband n I went to Mauritius for our honeymoon back in 2000. Stayed in a hotel in the area of Le Morne. It was absolutely amazing. Did all the excursions you’ve suggested. Thank you for your insight. I’m hoping the hospitality there is back to the high quality they provided us.

Enjoyed watching this😊 We went to same hotel I think a couple of weeks after you. It wasn't good to start, but it ended up really good. They went out of their way to correct or improve issues quickly. The food especially. Covid did cause widespread damage in the industry. This was our 2nd visit to the island (in 2019 previously, where we stayed further north in 5* luxury) Also went on the speed boat tour, which I would normally avoid (prefer sailing), but it was fun after all. Mauritius is very beautiful and not just about the rum!! Try Takamaka wine - made from lychee's - incredible.

Went all the sites you saw in Mauritius 🇲🇺 back in 2007 for my honeymoon. At that time I got sunburnt there in February. So beware that January/ February is very hot, as Mauritius is in the Southern Hemisphere 😮

Sometimes it’s different to share a review of something that overall has not been a great experience, so firstly I would say being true to yourself and therefore your “audience/followers” is essential in maintaining your brand as a trustworthy presenter. That said I thought the review was balanced and calling out issues which is what I personally always expect. Last as mentioned previously take a look at Tofino cheers k/r John

Brave of you guys to travel so far in 2021. I couldn’t do it at all. 😂 Maybe the hotel service was not so great, due to the pandem!c? I know many hotels fired many employees, hence why hotels were extremely understaffed. Thank you for the honest review!

Poor Chiaki, I have motion sickness, too and it’s horrible. Large boats are fine, but that small, loopy one would have been terrible. I do take Dramamine, but sometimes it can only do so much.

Question: when you guys were there, was COVID-19 vaccine required? Hubby and I were in Malta (Aug. 2021). We chose Malta, because it’s 3 hours flight. They were very strict: fully vaxxed and masked up. We really enjoyed Malta and it’s island Gozo.

  • @CarryOnMonkey

    @CarryOnMonkey

    Жыл бұрын

Yes. Fully vaxxed, and a negative test on arrival taken at home and then a test when you arrive at the hotel. It was well organised which was why we chose the country at the time

I was shocked when I heard and saw that the Mauritians used dynamite when fishing which was about 15 years ago. Hopefully, the government has banned the use of dynamite. This is why there are are hardly any tropical fish. Terrible.

It was actually a 4* hotel but only just reopened after pandemic. They improved quite quickly - we went same hotel 2 weeks later and they were doing their best to correct issues. There were lots of staff shortages in the industry at the time. The dirty glasses was not an issue 2 weeks after this video was shot
