Surviving LDS Electroshock Conversion Therapy - Nate Winterton
Mormon Stories Podcast guest and LGBT+ advocate, Nate Winterton, opens up about their harrowing experience of going through electroshock conversion therapy, after it was recommended to them by his LDS bishop. If you thought the days of Mormon electroshock torture were relics of the past, Nate recounts what they endured at the hands of an LDS “therapist” as recently as 2016.

I am stunned. How can there not be criminal indictments against these disgusting "counsellors"?
Thank you, Nate, for sharing your story. It takes a lot of courage and strength to survive what you experienced. I think it should be clear what happened, you were tortured, both physically and psychologically, and sexually assaulted. The person who performed this must have had a deep hatred of himself and hatred of others. If the church was true (IT IS NOT) I would not want to be in heaven in the presence of such a vindictive, hateful, capricious, and selfish god. I am happy to see you comfortable in who you are. Stay strong and live your life according to you own terms.
I used to think my horrible experience with my bishop was unique. We trust those who are put in charge of us. They are inspired by God. So we are taught. This is so sad! I’m so sorry you were put through this!
Thank you, Nate, for sharing your story.
I hope this inspires others to talk openly about being groomed for torture. You are so brave ❤️
Dang I didn't know this was still going on. The summer of 1978 I went to BYU counseling services if you would call it that while I shocked the hell out of me and messed up my mind. The church denies this ever even took place
I’m so sorry you were put through this experience! As a Mormon you were brainwashed into believing you only had one path available to you. I’m doing so they took away your agency and ability to consent. I also wanted to comment that the “professional” that had undergone the treatment himself in order to remove same sex attraction seemed to potentially be getting his own jollies by watching a naked man while torturing him. Did it instead of “curing” him but rather instill in him a twisted desire to take revenge against people he still was attracted to sexually but with the added psychopathic tendencies?
Nate is such a sweetheart. ❤

Agreed!
Nate..please go to the police and press charges or even file a civil suit. It should be known what happened to you. You are so brave to talk about this xoxo
I'm working on a documentary about this. I'm trying to find survivors who would be willing to share their story, especially if you were part of the Max Ford McBride study at BYU. If you are interested in sharing your story with us please let me know and I can get you in contact with our Producer and Director. Thanks!
This is horrifying. I heard President Oakes pushed this when president of BYU but I never felt the personal cost until this interview. My aunt had electroshock and it destroyed her so I have always been upset hearing this treatment. How can people continue to support a church that allows and encourages this. You are such a physically beautiful person.

Good question, how. The members are really the Church but they don’t know. If they will find out or listen to the hidden facts, a shake up will happen for sure. The shake up, will happen one of these days, however the church’s as a business will will be rich and survive and the leaders will enjoy the riches big time.

@@hbendzulla8213 It's drummed into the members to never question anything, believe everything they are told and just follow blindly, the members that do actually question things and look for factual information are the ones that leave because they find out they're being sold a crock of sh1t.

Oaks is in line to be the next Prophet of the church and he doesn't look like he'll die before Nelson. I'm sure progressive Mormons will leave in droves when he's in charge
Ok what :o 😢😢😢😢 this is so gross and who ever does this should be in prison!
I know this is a few months old but Nate you are so strong and beautiful inside and outside.
my ad was for pureflix KEKW
Wow, this is crazy. They went against the law of chastity and also abused him.
Horrific information. Hard to believe but true.
This is so wrong in so many levels, I'm sorry he went through all that horrible experience, but it doesn't surprise me comming from the mormons. I hope he understands these perverted people who toruture him, don't represent God AT ALL!! I really pray in Jesus name he finds the TRUE LIVING GOD, and finds peace.
Wow this guy looks nuts.
Jesus died on the cross for you. Repent and turn from your sin.
