Surviving A Home Invasion: How One Night Made This 2A Influencer A Gun Advocate

Ойын-сауық

Our guest shares her intense and life-changing experience with firearms. Despite growing up in a household with a police officer father, her exposure to guns was limited due to her mother's aversion to them. It wasn't until her husband, an avid shooter and hunter, introduced her to firearms that she began to understand their significance.
However, it was a harrowing home invasion that truly transformed her perspective.
This episode dives into the realities of home defense, the importance of being prepared, and the unexpected ways life can push us to embrace what we once feared.
Tune in for a story of bravery, protection, and the pivotal role of firearms in ensuring safety.

3 guys broke in my home 12 years ago and held a gun to my head. Me and my pregnant girlfriend were laying on the floor for probably 10-15 minutes. One guy was kneeling on my back with his gun pushing my face in the floor and the other 2 were going through everything. Scary stuff for sure. And because of this we all act different. We all know a quiet person (or more than 1), however give them a couple beers and suddenly they become the life of the party. We all know (at least most) someone (or more than 1) that acts different when they are drinking beer vs liquor, we all know at least most someone that's mellow when they are high and extremely intense if they are drunk, and the list goes on! Should we walk down memory lane of 2020 - 2022, we all know or heard of 90 year old that got sick with the virus and passed away, and we all know or heard of 90 year old that got sick with the virus and the sickness was weaker for them than the common cold!

When my parents were first dating, my father showed my mother where his handgun was stored, I think it was a ruger .44 blackhawk. My father went to work, and some robbers saw him leave and broke in to the apartment, my mother grabbed that gun, yelled through the bedroom door that she was armed, and when they continued robbing the place, ignoring her, she fired through the door, scaring them off (not hitting anyone). Who knows what would have happened if she hadn't been armed, but its a baddass moment for my mom. The cops never found the robbers, but lauded her and joked about it.

My grandmother was similar. Middle of the night, heard a weird noise, my dad was in his crib still next to her. She aimed the gun my grandfather bought for her into the dark at the foot of the bed. Before that night she was worried she'd never have the guts to defend herself, home, or my father/her son. After that night, that little switch had flipped. "If they break in, they don't value their lives, I have made my choice already" Teeny woman too, but a bat outta hell if you crossed her. I wish more people would understand breaking in WILL cost them their lives, and that people breaking in do not value their own lives

When I got divorced, one of the first things I did was saved up money so I can learn safety & tactical firearms training from a local professional instructor which at the time cost over a couple of thousands of dollars. It took me over 1 year to save up for the initial instruction because I was a single mother with 2 children under 5. The training took almost a year. I had a home invasion when I was in my early 20s. 2 guys broke in and were going room to room through my flat. I was on the phone with 911 when they got to my bedroom and started kicking in the door. At the time, I only had a deer rifle (300 savage) and as the door started breaking, the dispacher told me to be sure of my backstop and end the threat. I put a round through the door as the frame splintered. They guys yelled and took off. A couple of hours later, one showed up to the ER with door splinters in his face. The bullet had passed right between the two just below their shoulders. The cops never saw them even though i was on the phone for more than 5 minutes before i shot. Needless to say, I have a plethora of guns now, just in case.

I know a 64 yr old woman who told me that her hubby had to go out of town for 2 weeks. It was in the middle of the night that she was woke up by a loud noise. She had to make a decision. Was she going to cower in her room waiting to see if someone was in the house or do something about it? She said, "I chose to do something about it." She swept the house like her hubby & son taught her to do with what they equipped her with. She knew every loose board & where everything in the house was so she had the advantage . Thank God that it was just that something fell & no 1 was there. But she was so glad that the men in her life made sure she could if need be take care of herself. And she said that you really don't know sometimes if you can do something untill you're faced with it.

I love this story. When I was 13 years old in the late 1950s in a small West Texas town at about 0445 in the AM, I awakened to here my mother screaming that a man had grabbed her. Apparently she had gone outside to scare what she assumed were dogs from our pet squirrel cage and a man had grabbed her. She was able to break free using a broom as a weapon. After I awoke, I grabbed my .410 shotgun that I used for hunting and ran outside. A large man was there and when he saw me he began to run toward the back of our property where there was my chicken coop, an alley and a plowed field surrounded by a barbed-wire fence. By the time that I got the safety off of the gun, the guy was at the rear of our property and I fired one round at him. I went into the house and got dressed and by that time my father had returned from work to eat breakfast and he called the sheriff. I tracked the man's foot prints to the alley and saw that my shot had blown a hole in the side of my chicken coop and at that moment the guy had varied his run to cross the alley into the plowed field. He had run through the barbed-wire fence and I found small spots of blood, presumably from the barbed-wire injuries. The sheriff arrived and after talking to my dad and mom, he took me aside and told me that if I ever had to shoot at another man, to call him right away because he might have to help me drag the body into the house to prevent having to lock me up.

I think there’s a common theme with people who have been victims of armed robbery, or home invasion. There’s a major sense of loss. Loss of innocence, loss of security. As someone who found themselves in an armed robbery situation, despite loving guns, it wasn’t until after that incident that got me to get my concealed carry

I called my brother and asked why he made such a mess, and he had no idea what I was talking about! I grabbed the portable phone and went outside to call 911... officers arrived and cleared the house. I evidently walked into thieves ransacking my house, and there were piles of valuables laid out on the tables and upstairs beds!! when I went back out the front door they must have gone out the back! 😮 not sure what I would do differently now that I carry, but maybe hold at the front door and keep the guys upstairs for the police?
