I survive 24 hours underground without coming out. I have to build my way out of this mess. I build a bed, shelves, and cook meals in the spider hole in this epic survival challenge.
Free delivery and free installation for power kit purchases (not including orders with 400W rigid solar panels). Payment Installment plans are available.
Kevin of Modern Self Reliance digs deep, using the EcoFlow to power his jackhammer, blasting through clay and rock to clear out thousands of pounds of dirt and build a 10 x 10' hidden room underground!
Using the EcoFllow to power his drill and tools, Kevin is able to secure his underground bunker safely, building a wooden frame to add stability and style: his underground bunker feels like home thanks to EcoFlow!
Underground lighting to work safely is no problem, with EcoFlow portable power.
I build an authentic Japanese military spider fox hole with just a few basic tools including a small army shovel, some metal buckets, and some rough saw timbers to help create a safe place to sleep overnight in case of impending war.
A spider hole is mirrors the hole created by a trapdoor spider who will tunnel and then cover the top of the door to conceal itself.
A spider hole is usually shoulder-deep, and round, protective enough to camouflaged lid a solder from attack. A soldier will be able to stand upright and then fire a weapon without being overly exposed. A spider hole is different than a foxhole in that a foxhole is usually deeper and designed to hide or conceal a fighter.
A spider hole is usually hastily dug, whereas a foxhole is done with more care.
Spider holes were used during World War II by Japanese. Saddam Hussein during the Iraq war was captured hiding in a spider hole.

"Self-Reliance" is an 1841 essay written by American transcendentalist philosopher and essayist Ralph Waldo Emerson. It contains the most thorough statement of one of Emerson's recurrent themes: the need for each individual to avoid conformity and false consistency, and follow his own instincts and ideas. This channel will approach self reliance from a modern perspective. and will focus on various build projects using modern amenities, and tools to build a completely self reliant lifestyle.

Make it hinged to the wall so it can fold up flat against the wall out of the way. It can be supported by chains or, perhaps better, legs that fold down so you don’t have to worry about it pulling off the wall. Oo, a double fold down! The padding and bedding on a flat sheet (held in place by a loose bungee cargo net) folds up against the wall leaving a table. But the table can also fold up over the bedding layer out of the way when you need extra floor space! I’ve got a cabin half built in my mind already. Maybe next year I’ll make a video. Thanks for the inspiration!

I think, for the ceiling light, you should have screwed the screws in until they poke out the other side. That way, once you get it in position, you won't need to hold it for so long before the 1st screw penetrates. Also, those screws won't hold more than a few months since all the weight is on the heads. Eventually, it will start to slide down until it falls. You need something that will allow it to rely on horizontal support, distribute the weight to some brackets on the outer rim or inside behind the wheel.

For a bucket toilet with a bag, it's always best to have a bag of cat litter handy, scented preferably and a box of baking soda. Do your business, then cover it with a layer of litter and a sprinkling of baking soda. It definitely helps with the smell and don't let it get more than half full of offal and litter. Had to go without reliable water for awhile and this was our method.

So long as your crawl space is separate room from the rest of your space, you can dig a little trench moat to catch the rain fall in and just put some flat garden stones in the center to stand on to keep your feet dry, etc. Think like a toilet plumbing, derekuyu and Cappadocia, Turkey. They built the entranced to their underground towns to catch the water and recycle it for crops and air flow during the flood of moses or enoch or whatever...

I think it's a little dangerous to be under there for a long time. the bad air you breathe out is heavier than the good one so sooner or later the room will fill up. you need an active circulation system that pushes the bad air away and throws the good one in (the good one I think comes naturally from the ceiling boards so it doesn't need to be active). besides that I think it's really cool

Yes! That would be ideal, quiet, dark and 60 degrees! I keep telling my husband we need to have underground rooms or a cave!

22:59 That is an Italian coffee maker, also called "Moka". I love them. They make great coffee really fast. The lower chamber works kind of like a pressure cooker, which is why it has a valve to avoid explosion.

You need a dirt vacuum system that sucks the dirt up and spits it out. The idea came to me when I saw that infinite stairwell on the plateau of giza, egypt. No matter how hard they try and dig this stairwell back up, the sand storms FILL IT BACK IN. XD sand is much lighter than this mud you diggin in though, so you need a system that separates and dries the dirt as it moves it, just maybe?

Your little dog was watching you take things into the hole and probably thinking - My human digs holes too! This is awesome! lol BTW, toilet tip: use cat litter. It clumps up on number 1 and 2, and it's scented so your place won't smell as bad.

I would have put a tarp above the wood to deflect the water to the side. I do think you could easily add a real mattress or bed to the place, there are fairly cheap bedrolls and stuff. (like I am currently sleeping on a $100 piece of foam and its worked well so far)

"I don't know how waterproof this is..." I've been thinking about making an underground shelter with a large upside down aluminum Jon boat for a roof. It would be waterproof and already reinforced with ribs in the hull and rot-proof. Maybe a couple of super large deep freezers side by side, as a waterproof recessed floor for secure animal and bug-proof storage under the floor. They have waterproof scent-proof doors... that are load bearing in case of collapse

Once you get some 1 inch 1 and a 1/2 inch acrylic rod and stick it in the ground leave. Maybe 6 inches or so above the ground and that'll pipe some light down. Also, also, you should have some emergency switches and depending on the frequency. They know exactly where you might be under the ground if you do have a collapse. And you probably should bring some ox and thanks down there

I'm thinking it's not complete until there is an underground, hot tub/ swimming pool fed from the underground well is complete. Might need pump to get rid of the dirty water but heck were in a drought so might as well grow some veggies with a good grow light down there to get rid of the grey water and prep for the 10,000 year wait after the above ground nuclear winter. That light is the real bomb though! Nice job. Bean is the very best dog an underground pre-prepper could ever need, What a cutie.

You are SO right on... about the gift of boredom. It is ESSENTIAL to have some 'down time' ... away from the business of DOing, DOing, Thinking, Thinking. It finally hit me that at our core essence we are human BE-ings vs human DOers. If we don't ever learn to simply BE, it will take MUCH longer to discover who we TRULY are... which is something far greater than our deceptive mind let's on. 😉 There is a wise sentiment which flows through all paths to SELF knowledge.... BE STILL & KNOW.
