I have a GSO 12 and 5.1 pending. It’s not so much about the lost funds. The part that’s hard is the over 5 years of waiting to get the knives and being patient and understanding of the process. Too bad. At this point I would be willing to accept any of the knives that might be available. This is a sad day.

I work as a process engineer, I knew their manufacturing processes not developed well for scalability, as guy seemed to treat routine process development challenges as show stoppers. But Damn, having one person do 80% of the work and not training anyone else is worse than I could have imagined. I work making prototypes and developing manufacturing processes, the first thing you want to do when scaling production is making it as easy as possible for someone who isn’t you to do it.

Also than you for getting an edc4 in my hand- I'm sure it wouldn't have happened before the implosion of you hadn't been there. Fortunately the only pre-order I have open is a necker 2. You are SO RIGHT! The fact that he TOOK their Pre-order payment in full, and KNEW his company was on shakey ground, he was criminal in his actions KNOWING there was little if any chance of delivering on his promise, that is where the "Criminal FRAUD" took place! Also, I'm sure he easily owes "Just a WAG, Wild Arse Guess" $50,000 - $100,000 or MORE in knives to the customers who PAID in FULL and had no intent on being able to deliver, he KNEW his financial situation FULLY and was somehow hoping to pull a Rabbit Out Of His HAT to make good on his promise to deliver which never happened! He KNEW there was NO WAY he could fullfill the orders, but took the money anyway! That "to me" was Criminal Fraud, don't know any other way to put it. SO, I have no pity on him! Just like these CEO's who went to prison for running Ponzi Sheme's like "Worldcom, Bernie Mafdoff" and others. Survive Knives WAS a Ponzi Scheme and ton's of people got ripped off. Just stating the facts, I'm no expert, but sure appears that way to me! 👍👍😡😡🤬🤬

For a relatively small company the scope of that backlog is staggering. They owe customers about $1 million in knives, and that’s at their prices, in reality if I were to make those knives at that level, I would be charging 50% more, so then we’re talking about one and a half million dollars in knives that are outstanding. with all that said there is a piece of me that would like to be able to step in and make thosepeople whole, but that is just out of reach for me.

Thank you for this. Unless a company utilizes Chinese manufacturing/finishing for lower cost, I don't see this happening. As patriotic as I am, and on July 4th no less, having a company buy out the orders and finish them in China at one of the higher end facilities and get them out to customers might be the only way to fulfill those preorders, but a Chinese-made knife isn't what folk were buying into.

Im all for mental health but at a certain point Guy kept taking in preorders on knives he had knew he couldn't produce. It also seems like he wanted to blame everyone but himself. Why be chronically online and in forums if you are going to change anything or make it better? Im sorry to see you lose in this but this is no one faults but his. He is a monster of his own making. Ending it the way he did without trying to make to make it right or even talking to anyone is just highway robbery. Same reason Guy could probably not maintain any kind of partnership or co-investment for very long. That sure was an expensive way to find this out for Jon and his father. It makes me wonder what else we may never hear regarding whatever relationships Guy left behind when he left Idaho. It certainly provides a fresh perspective on the way Peter’s HT, Niagara, CPM and others likely experienced the whole Magnacut drama…

Survive was always operated like a pyramid scheme and Guy was whining about predatory lending while wasting our hard earned preorder dollars!!! I'm lucky that I didn't have a financial stake. It sounds like a severe case of founder's syndrome mixed with other issues I'm not qualified to diagnose. It's all too familiar: the not existing to them once you aren't useful, the warnings from other people about getting involved, shady business/personal financials they won't disclose, an endless marketing push to hide the underlying issues. I had to switch career fields after that for my own mental health. I'm sorry that you're going through all this. Hopefully getting it out there publicly gives you some peace of your own

I think this video mentioning how hyper focused Guy became with certain things explains a lot. I am willing to bet Guy spent that period figuring out his blame narrative and making the social media rounds over making knives or seeing how many of the Magnacut were actually affected.

@@Mrarmageddon8 I apologize that my sarcasm was not clear in my response. Guy claimed to have sent samples to 3 different labs. Unless I missed it, no lab reports were ever presented. Is it possible that he sent his worst samples? Sure. Is it possible that he never sent any samples? Sure. Is it possible that the material claims were just “claims” in a long line of previous blame game activities? Sure. Magnacut is my personal favorite steel. I own knives from Bradford, Kershaw, CRK, Spartan, AK Knives, and even Bestech in MagnaCut. It is Crucible’s highest volume grade right now. Does anyone for a second think any of these companies would tolerate, let alone be able to afford, the 20% fallout Guy reported? Wait, those companies don’t have Guy’s strict quality standards (per Guy). Perhaps my sarcasm will do better the second time around.

That's where he got his claim of $15,000 "hush money " claim Guy refused to send the affected blades and demanded Niagara pay for the entire batch. Now we have the eventuality of the facts from.EVERYONE but Guy. The response video seemed to me very much like covering arse, not anywhere a heartfelt 'Guys, I know what's going on etc". I absolutely love there Knives but refuse to do business with the company. I got in EARLY with buying the knives that I had, I had number 38 of the first run of the 5.1 I bought a few more models back when the waiting list was truly only 60 days and I had no problem getting the knives in on time. I started seeing the complaints the more the knives grew in popularity. It is absolutely unacceptable for a customer to wait 5 years on a knife. I gave one of my early 5.1 models as a wedding gift to a good friend of mine that got married last year. We grabbed some lunch 2 months ago and we got to talking about knives and showing him my newest EDC and the conversation went to Survive knives. I told him about how survive has orders 5 years plus not being filled and that people have such a hard time getting refunds and just the general complaints. My friend is a lawyer but he mostly practices family law but he said that he would love to litigate a lawsuit against a company with those business practices. He did ask me if I had any outstanding orders with them and I told him that I stopped buying from them years ago, he asked because he offered to get involved regarding any outstanding orders. He didn’t express any real interest at all in taking any action against Survive but just inferring that lawsuits like that are a pretty easy case. He was not a customer of Survive, and has no reason to want to pursue anything. It honestly wasn’t a long conversation at all about Survive just a minute or so talking about it. He had always admired my 5.1 and I gifted it to him and he asked me if I planned to buy anything else from them and that’s when I told him how shady the company has been with not filling orders and etc..He then told me about being a part of a few cases that had companies that were similar in failing the customer. Keep this in mind that when he and I glanced this topic, Survive wasn’t being the topic of shutting down, Survive was still taking orders and business as usual with nothing being discussed about the company’s financial problems. I only brought the small talk that we had because of hearing about Survive troubles earlier today and it was then that I remembered the quick conversation that we had. I made a quick edit to this post so if anyone reads this they don’t think that a lawyer is champing at the bit to file class action.

Finally a fully transparent video on this topic. Way to stand strong and lay it out there. I have to say, though, Survive’s knives are VERY basic, not some savant-created wonder. Truly, how much “quality” goes into a flat saber ground knife, pre-blanked, CNC ground, with linerless CNC contoured scales and a blasted blade finish. Many of the finishing processes may have been specialized but the effort just doesn’t return on investment. Not to mention, the hard use marketing doesn’t match the obsession over perfection that comes with a fine piece of cutlery. No matter how much time goes in, the finish will not last with use. This sounds more like ego and stubbornness. I think taking a hard look at the finishing and finding more efficient processes could have gone a long way. It sounds like Guy’s autism or maybe OCD got in the way of progress and he didn’t have the ability to prioritize anything different from what he had already determined was best. Yes, they’re good knives at a good price point with excellent heat treatments (Peters is the best in the world), and they use excellent steels, but they’re really not that special in the market. They’ve been elevated by scarcity if nothing else. If they were ubiquitous the hype would have faded whether they got pulled out of the mud or not.

I also had a design that I think would have been bad ass to have made by Survive. My heart breaks for Guy, Ellie, Mike, and you. I honestly still hope that some sort of miracle happens and things turn around and Survive goes big because America needs companies that show that USA made is still the undisputed absolute best and Survive's quality from what I've seen is astounding for a non-custom knife. Better than Bark River or LT Wright by a lot. I will keep you all in my prayers in hopes that things somehow work out because the GSO-10 will always have a special place in my heart as the large knife I most regret having sold and because I hate seeing my fellow American knife lovers end up where Survive is right now. Fellow Brothers of the Blades, I realize some comments I made towards Survive Knives and the owner, Guy were somewhat harsh, but true! Many just lost their money for knives they will never see, but Guy lost everything trying to fulfill his life long dream of being a leading knife maker, his wife, his home, his car, everything! It makes the few hundred dollars many lost seem like nothing compared to the sacrifices he made. One thing I have come to realize was that Guy is a Perfectionist when it comes to his quality of work, his knives ARE Perfection! But, instead of trying to reinvent the wheel and going through the school of hard knocks, he should have studied and learn from other people in the industry. The only knives I’ve seen and own that are in the same league is TRC Knives! Why he did not take the time to meet or simply talk with TRC and find out how THEY mass produce such high quality products in which they process in large quantities and still maintain their exact quality standards. I’ve NEVER heard or have seen a TRC product that was not “Perfection”, so it CAN be done! You should never feel intimidated or feel like he is stealing their processes, merely observe how they work, produce large quantities of knives without sacrificing quality. By not swallowing his pride and not learning from others, he went down with the ship, and the rest is history! But he got so caught up in micromanaging the production, he lost sight of what really counted and it bit him in the Arse big time. Hopefully, there one day may be the silver lining in this cloud and he can figure out how other comparable companies can mass produce their products while still maintaining the exacting standards he puts into every knife that leaves his shop. But when your pride and ego end up hurting you company, you might need to take a self inventory of you approach to knife making and learn from others, but I think that was his downfall, thinking his way was the ONLY way. Anyway, I hope this will encourage other aspiring knife makers not to be to proud to learn from others. This is a tragedy for everyone involved. Wish everyone a good week. 👍

He was takiing thousands of orders for knives knowing how few he made a week. There should absolutely be criminal repercussions for what he did.

Dude. You realise that a few hundred dollars to some people is a damn lot. Guy, brought it upon himself, and you are asking that we feel sorry for him?! I am in the process of starting my own knife business. It's called Imaginary Unicorn Knives. I am take pre-orders. 250 dollars per knife and only a delivery time of 1 day after tomorrow via Santa Claus Reindeer express or you can pick one up at the end of the rainbow. 😅

@@HappyWifeHappyKnife I’m pretty sure with the evidence on hand, he may very well be facing Felony Fraud charges! He KNEW he was on a sinking ship, yet continued taking peoples money anyway! That’s where the criminality comes in! Does not take much to figure that out! And rightfully so, it was a Fraudulent Ponzi scheme!

I have absolutely no sympathy for Guy! Everything that happened, he brought upon himself. He took orders he knew he could not fill. He should be held accountable and face criminal charges.

@@informedcitizen8687 Due to the incredible amount of money he took in for orders he knew he could not fullfill, let’s say a ballpark figure of $50,000.00 “just a guess” but even if it were $20,000.00, that rises to Felony Criminal status. I’m sure by the time a DA there locally investigates the matter and examines his financial ledgers, he most likely will be facing Felony Fraud charges. There are a lot of pissed off buyers who were scammed and ripped off, and rightfully so! 🤬😡🤬

Were people aware that Guy was arrested and charged with burglary and the sale of stolen firearms? In 1999, when he was 19, Guy broke into a hardware store in Gettysburg and stole 17 firearms and tried to sell them to friends and his Marine recruiter. He was caught in a police sting operation. You can find the news articles online. I don't know how the case was resolved or if he served time. It seems this mentality of thievery continues today with his business practices where he has taken customers' money and not provided merchandise in return. This company is just a a big fraud and ponzi scheme. I had no idea about the arrest!!

Yes, it was known. You missed some details, including that he had worked at the store and that the owner tried to help him after the arrest. His record as a felon is actually a big part of how Survive! got into financial trouble since a lot of sources of lending for a business were thereby unavailable to him and he chose to experience predatory lending to try and keep afloat 😞😓😖

I find that very interesting, I visited the first Survive shop in Gettysburg in 2014. There was a topo map of Camp Lejuene hanging up, I asked about it since I was stationed there back when I was in and he said he was stationed there too so for all these years I thought he was a fellow Marine but obviously if he was a convicted felon he was either dishonorably discharged or never went in at all! What a lying scumbag he is.

I can understand both sides, i was standing on both sides - manly on the side guy was standing. Guys like this need help and they need to give a huge chunk of their business handled by capable people. Trust is a huge issue, which can be overcome by very very open communication, strict rules etc. In the end of course it's Guy's fault, because he is the boss. He had the final decision. If i could i would love to work together with Guy - but with very tight screws and extremely limited responsibility from Guy.
