Those that grumble offer no good suggestions to our problems and some have the bizarre manaʻo that voting Republican would bring changes for the better. Really? What exactly would Trump’s minions do for Hawaʻi and how would they help kanaka maoli? They wouldnʻt. Trump would not be good to Hawaiʻi and the Republicans have lost their damn minds with Trump & MAGA calling the shots They won’t even pass a border bill because they would give Biden a win and They would lose their #1 bi**h point. VOTE BLUE & save democracy.

@The.Hawaiian.Kingdom That's not really the problem from what I've seen. It's banned from everywhere except resort areas (and in Maui County there's a full freeze on new permits). Admittedly there are some grandfathered in with old permits, but the big problem is really that there is zero enforcement against illegal vacation rentals, so even if you can't get a permit because you're not in a resort area there is zero consequence in operating it as a vacation rental. There was once an attempt to fine these illegal operators but I believe it got bogged down because they did it in some stupid way that caused some high profile mistaken accusations (e.g. the vacation rental was next door but they fine the homeowner next to them instead). They really need to do stings and issue stiff fines.

All they do is complain about statehood, call the rest of us colonizers and act like they’re better than us. They consider being American citizens as a military occupation. They sure want our federal funding, though. Right? I say we let them apply for foreign aid, just like all the other useless little pacific islands.

It's a mess, If Hawaii experiences another Emergency like the Maui Fire or a tsunamni Volcanic Eruptions, or Hurricanes, I seriously doubt its a capability to rescue or protect People. Seriously failed in Lahaina. I'm not trying to be rude about this, just realistic, members of the public need to do serious preparedness and do not depend on inadequate government emergency response agencies right now because until they improve, you are not truly protected at all.

Hawai’i has a finite amount of land, legally they have to set aside a certain percentage for different zones aside from residential zones (ag, industrial etc), they can’t just build wherever they like. Additionally there’s cultural aspects such as sacred sites, historical sites and burial grounds that must be preserved. You can’t criminalize homelessness, so they CANT charge anyone with the crime of being homeless, that’s a violation of international humanitarian law, additionally you can’t force people to leave, it’s illegal & a violation of their rights, so we can’t send homeless people anywhere, we can only incentivize them to leave, such as offering them $5000 to leave…. it’s the same reason so many homeless from the states are here, they were offered a free plane ticket to a place with great weather… incentivized.

First of all, as the person above expressed, destroying Hawai’i to build homes is NOT an incentive to most people… to you, maybe, but not to most people. Second of all, you have zero understanding of how a democratic constitutional federal government works. What you’re describing having a desire for, is COMMUNISM, in which case you’re more than welcome to move to a communist country, where you’ll be happy. However, if you want to live here, there’s rules, regulations, laws and constitutional rights that must be considered. You cannot go around breaking the law because YOU feel there’s incentive to do so. The government cannot go around violating peoples rights and breaking the law because someone in the government feels there’s incentive to do so. Third of all, I refuse to believe a grown adult made it to adulthood without learning & at in the very least having an elementary level understanding of everything mentioned above. Please educate yourself on the type of government that exists here, because your comments are irrational and wholly irrelevant to the topic.
