    @@bettertimeschi Great ! Reading that corrupt Willow Springs cop, Corbitt, book would have a lot, though anyone writing a book is in it for the dough. Possible stretching the truth might be there. However, some facts are indisputable, i.e., Diane screwed around, attorney husband had enough and Corbitt was seen following her to bar after bar. And, of course, she became trunk music and took a one way dive.

    Wow, this was great stuff. You even got a shot of "Slim" Gussie Alex. A friend in the vending machine racket worked for Apex Vending on Milwaukee Ave. Alex handed out the checks on Fridays. My pal said Alex could be friendly, though quiet. However, the route guy next to my pal was apparently skimming from the machines (all cash then before credit card readers) and Alex pulled him aside. I don't know how that particular story ended, nor do I want to.

    @@bettertimeschi You can pick any character and timeframe, over 20 years should be no problem. Say you are interested in the Lombardo-Dorfman relationship for a book/research/article you are writing. You can ask for access to all surveillance media related to the Lombardo-Dorfman saga. Probably narrow timeframe to 1980-1981. They will not give you the media but will probably ask you to travel somewhere where you can see all the media evidence they have. It’ll cost you though, request $40? Plus travel. Transcripts of bugged phone conversations should be no issue. I doesn’t hurt to go downtown and ask what you can obtain through FOIA requests. Good luck!

  • @khabbad

    @khabbad

    4 ай бұрын

    Actually you’re right, of course current days no one really knows the numbers of members or associates, although Chicago always insulated itself and acted more as a criminal cartel than traditional Cosa Nostra as some of the most important men were associates and not “made” because of their ancestry. From the 50s into the lates seventies and early 80s the Outfit was the most lucrative criminal entity in the states and a lot of that success was because of guys like Giancana who set up enormous holdings overseas even in places like Iran and Beirut, Lebanon as well as Central America. It was always difficult to estimate numbers but one slip by Tony Spilotro when he was threatening a police captain in Vegas when he boasted “you got 40, well we got 400” but who knows. the Outfit was the overseer of Chicago, Milwaukee, Kansas City, Las Vegas and Los Angeles and to a lesser and unknown degree in San Diego. There’s a great reference in the book Donnie Brasco, when Donnie and Lefty were in Milwaukee he told Donnie how they had to be careful as Milwaukee didn’t answer to New York, only to Chicago and that they can be dangerous. The influence The Outfit had in Chicago is quite fascinating and almost unbelievable from alderman, to Chicagoland mayors, huge amounts of the police force, dozens of judges and prosecutors, all from many many years of constant infiltration

    @@EasternOutlaw09 Presently, not all the NY Families have around 200. Only Genovese & Gambino, not the other 3. In its heyday, the Outfit probably had about 60 or 70 made guys with many associates. Man per man, the Outfit probably was more lucrative than any of the NY Families because NY had TOO MANY guys chasing the same dollar. However, I would agree that PRESENTLY, the Outfit is on its last leg.
