Thank you, you really are a master in didactics ! The video again is highly useful for me, as you combine pragmatic and non orthodoxic education, which is easily understandable also for beginners - in a perfect proportion with examples, with listen and repeat. It is perfect to have the sheet music in the video, too! And it is fun to follow you, as always. Thanks again. Frank

This is a very revealing video on how jazz works. Ive given up on watching youtube channels about jazz because they go out of their way to be as vague and nondescriptive as possible about famous jazz music. It would be really good if you would make a video series that would go through great solos by Trane and Bird so people like myself can figure out what is going on melodically and harmonically.

Thanks, great teaching. If I were to learn these lines without your lesson I would be thinking about them in terms of little bits of different scales, but in general when playing are you thinking of the pentatonic as the core structure with surround notes rather than thinking about other scales?

Hi , Dr. WALLY . Just wanted to express my appreciation for all your helpful tips. I come from the classical clarinet side of the fence. This is like, the opposite. Mozart and Copland were really the only clarinet pieces I enjoyed. At age 64 I am learning jazz on tenor in a stage band. But, I am so in my head trying to analyze. Ugh. Taking your advice trying to create a melody and to listen. I write all your chord progression samples out. I mean I taught elementary music for 30 years, and this is new knowledge!! Is it bad to admit that? Where would my life be if I had taken this jazz road? I've watched so many of your videos. Thank you. I am inspired by your technique and humorous approach. Do ya get what I'm putting down?

Well someone liked this reply after all this time, so I’ll just give an update here and say that I tried the WCW #56 Mk II, but it wasn’t for me .. I ended up scrapping the idea of upgrading (sorry Jody) and I’m just sticking with my (~15 yr old) Cannonball CAM #5, which is about the same in most respects as the #56, but not quite as dark. It seems I had an adequate alto mpc all along. Btw, was a gift from Sheryl Lakaut herself ! You may want to check out the Cannonball saxes, very nice caring lady, as I recall.
