Surrender is not a word we typically associate with Buddhist practice but is integral in the development of many capacities. We make effort, but it is often the effort of willingness rather than willfulness. Supported by faith, we acclimatize to groundlessness and the loss of our usual reference points. This leads us to samadhi, a state of non-ambivalence, where all the parts of our being are pointed in the same direction.
