Varo made some of her paintings by transferring drawings onto a panel that had been primed with gesso, then scratching the panel to produce a texture (a technique called grottage). Varo also used a technique called decalcomania said to have been invented by Spanish painter Oscar Domínguez, in which designs on paper or aluminum foil are pressed and rubbed onto another surface, transferring the image and creating a blurry effect, as well as a famous technique to transfer images and textures, such as wood textures, used by Ernst called frottage 🤓 Love your videos Lisa. Been binge-watching for a couple of days. xoxo

leonora carrington like many other artists despite not being mexican by birth or heritage, consider themselves as mexican artists because of the impact of the country in their work (even tho surrealism is not stereotypically mexican, it is very much an spanish and mexican influenced art) Dalí was quoted saying that he have to leave mexico because he couldn't stand a country being more surrealist that his work.❤❤❤ great episode
