I would appreciate the same distinction between those two cities as well.

Hey Simon. About Texas. I lived there for 2 years. Started my Ph.D. program there, dropped out after a year to transfer to the school where I finished it, long story... and I also worked at the Apple corporate office for a year after I left the University. Yeah. Apple has a location there. Cupertino, California is the home office, but the online store is based in Austin. And that's why people from California (and everywhere else) are going to Texas. There's a burgeoning tech industry which is growing to the same size as the oil industry there. And it's also driving up property value. In San Francisco and the California Bay area, all the tech industry has made it so expensive to live in that area. When I moved to Austin in 2013, my apartment rent was $735 a month. When I left in 2015 just 2 years later, my apartment rent was $1065 a month. Where I live in California, my rent was just $1075 when I moved here. 6 years later, my rent has only gone up about $190 over that period. Anyway. Texas, especially in Austin, has a serious issue with pricing out the locals. So people from Texas are unable to afford to live in many places and are having to move out or move to cheaper housing while the more liberal folks from the tech industry move in. Also, on that note... Austin has the worst drivers out of all the places I've lived. My friend had a theory that because so many people were moving to Austin (which was the 11th largest city in the US and fast growing when I lived there), that all the worst drivers from every state were ending up there, and everyone was driving under the rules of their home state. So you end up with Austin having all the worst drivers driving under different rules. It was horrifying.

Related to Ireland’s Drug Purge, we very nearly made Hetrosexual marriage illegal too in the very same week. Laws in Ireland are in both Gaelic and English, with the Gaelic version taking precedence over the English version. In the lead up to the 2015 referendum on gay marriage, someone noticed that under a reading of the Gaelic version of the draft legislation going before our parliament, only marriages between same-sex partners would have be legally recognised. I love how this has been like the 3rd video where Simon avoids saying that he does in fact smoke pot. We know Simon, we can all tell. How else could you have been led to cocaine without the famous gateway drug?

Its funny at the end when they wrap it up saying how cannabis and schrooms have possible positives, but "ketamine, well its still just ketamine, best to stay away from it." Considering Ketamine is becoming a pretty widely accepted treatment for depression, even amongst legit psychiatrists, so little boo boo on that one. If yall need a drug consultant (dont know why I said if, its clear the BB crew has barely ever touched anything harder than a strong pint and some stem and seed infested weed) I volunteer. I do agree though, as anyone in recovery would, drugs can certaintly be the devil for those of us with that addiction gene.

How on Earth does it make sense to put weed and magic mushrooms in the category "no medical use and high potential for abuse" but heroin and cocaine are not?? Our drug laws are meant to put people in prison and not help addicts, its a form of modern slavery.

I'll have to look and see if "81" contains any mention of fungus in particular, or only names plants as reduced priority. The wording in US law is always going to be vague enough to enforce any interpretation until the precedent is set by a judge's ruling. Cops will be like, "Magic Shrooms are a fungus, not a plant. Hands behind your back, punk."

The biggest problem until recently was all research on these chemicals was banned. So we’re just now learning their therapeutic effects

I've had fibromyalgia for 15 years, and doctors had me on loads of pills (painkillers, sleep aids, anti-anxiolytics, etc) for a decade, and it was a miserable existence. (Though I do believe those drugs have legit value and should not be criminalised.) But being prescribed them on an endless loop nearly destroyed my body. Then I discovered weed 4 years ago, and I've basically gotten my life back. I am more productive, I rest better when I sleep, and it helps curb my 'fiery nervous system'. I can't say enough about what a blessing it's been to my life...

About 4 or so years ago was when they changed the recommendation and screwed over pin center patients by drastically reducing how much they could be prescribed isn’t it? I know it effected my care and quality of life for the worse.

@@rileyfenley522 I'm not sure how it went down in the US because I was living overseas for several years, but I came back in April 2017 and going to the doctor felt like a gambling exercise. "The Opioid Epidemic" was such a bullshit exercise--I'm hoping Covid killed that topic permanently. Those drugs are important and necessary--if doctors spent more than 2 mins with a patient and actually seemed concerned with 'health,' they could be administered successfully. I use pot and kratom both and I'm in better health than i was for a decade. (If you're unfamiliar with kratom, do yourself the most tremendous favour ever and try it--it doesn't fuzz up your mind, doesn't make you groggy, and just 'soothes' the nervous system for both pain and anxiety purposes. I have a feeling it'll be illegal soon because it completely circumvents all the side effects of pharmaceuticals--I haven't had depression in the 3 years since I began using it.) (sorry this was so long but if you're suffering, I'd feel neglectful if I didn't mention it.) :)

I decided that I didn't want to get into mushroom foraging after I learned that certain edible mushrooms look almost exactly like the aptly-named death cap, and that every few years someone mistakes a death cap for an edible mushroom and suffers severe (often fatal) liver damage.

Did medical testing when was in college. The one that stood out was two weekends testing a blood pressure medication. First weekend, took three pills, one was immediate release, one medium release, and one slow release, to try and keep the same level of drug in your system over a long period. Second weekend, took one pill with all three drugs mixed together, to see if the one pill was as good as the three. Blood draw every 15 minutes to monitor levels in the bloodstream. Sucked to get jabbed over 200 times over the course of the study, but utterly destroyed any fear of needles. The drug itself was kinda meh, it worked, gave us all really low blood pressure... so just got tired really really quickly. As in jump up to go do something, take three steps... and wow, need to sit down for a second.

"I'm going to stop displaying my ignorance" proceeds to know more about American history then most Americans.

I love these reminders that Simon's memory is a sieve. And I'm not sure that's a metaphor, I think the part of his brain responsible for memory may be a literal sieve.

The last state expected to legalize medical marijuana was Utah, but they passed it in 2018 and I couldn’t be more happy. I’ve had my card for about a year.

There were too many headlines about tourists and Magic Mushrooms in the Netherlands so they made them illegal. A lot of them were bogus and people blamed shrooms even if they weren't on it. Magic Truffles are still legal though through a legal technicality, they are actually grown from the same spores and have the same active compound but because they remain underground during their whole growing process, they are not technically mushrooms, which is what was outlawed (mushrooms containing psilocybin), so they are not illegal.
