Surprising my grandpa with restoring his 1954 International pick up truck

Here’s C&J’s website cjclassiccars.com/
My grandpa bought this truck with his mom a long time ago. He hasn’t seen it run or drove it in up to 45 years.

Some people don't understand that this truck represents 70 years of one family's memories. He sees his grandpa his dad himself in that truck. Memories of the past come flooding back to him. The sights sounds good times laughs and cries of the lives he witnessed. All were faded memories until today. What an amazing gift you have given to your grandpa!

With so much painful stuff going on in the world today, it was a special gift that you gave us to see something so positive. Rang my heartstrings. I'm a grandpa... and two months ago I got my brother's truck. As he was passing, he said, "...you take my truck...but remember...It's always mine". R.I.P., Mac. Thanks to you all...including Grandpa, for making me drop a few tears (of joy). I gotta get out tomorrow and polish up Mac's ride. She'll NEVER be sold.

It's brakes my hart when I see videos like this. and I know were this young man is coming from. In 1969 during the troubles in the north of Ireland. My dad brought my mum to the reuplic of Ireland in a Ford consul I came back with my dad to look after our home. I was 14 year's old. I found the car. and by the time it took to sort it out. It was to late. My dad past away. And I niver got to see his face when the car was finished. So this young man is very lucky to see the look on his grandfather's face. What a lovely thing to do. God bless you all of you.

I remember when my grandad passed away, I went with my father to clean up the place and get it ready for sale. All the times I went to my grandad’s house I never went in the garage, but we went inside to see what needed to go to the dump or could be sold. There inside was a 1958 Dodge pickup, the windows had been vandalized but we popped the hood and saw the Firedome V8 was still intact. My Dad thought about fixing it but donated it to the local trade school, wish he kept it. Glad you got this truck going again!

My grand dad bought a brand new ford in 1948. He absolutely loved that car. He grew up very poor, and to have a new pair of shoes that was a luxury untold. He had a job in a factory and a machine cut part of his finger off. He was worried about losing his job and how he was going to pay! He was very surprised when they paid him $3000 settlement for his injury! That was almost a year at work. They didn’t even have a car the war stopped production of all motor vehicles, so when a car came up for sale, it was gone in a matter of minutes you could not find many cars to buy go when he got a chance to buy this car our family had wheels! Brand new he would sit in that car I’m tall and just drink up the luxury of a Ford four-door sedan that look like a dark blue Tylenol. The day came when he had no choice, but to sell that car to keep the family going and all through his life he lamented the fact that he fell in love with that Ford. Although later on, they all bought him a secondhand Cadillac, he still would never let go of the memories of this Ford on his 88th birthday they Found an exact model of his car, and have it restored to look, just like his! We were so excited we were so happy for him. He was finally going to get his dream. Come true we took the car over to the nursing home and parked it behind a milk truck. When the big reveal came, we have the milk truck pull forward to reveal this beautiful restored 1949 Ford! We explain to him what we did and what this car was and we were so eager for him to give a reply, or show some exuberance! He didn’t remember anything, even though we told him it was his!

To me, the thing is, that this is an American Family. God Bless America. However, many a family's fate has been tied to thousand, hundreds of thousands, even millions of trucks, like this American family. And yet they are not so fortunate to live in our County. They've live all over our most precious planet. I can see this great expression of love all over the world. Ask, your mother/father, Grandfather/grandmothers, aunts and uncles, cousins and other kin, what they remember of the trucks/cars, vehicles that secured their families future. You are fortunate to have all three generations. God be with us all. Peace.

Awesome story. My first truck, and paid for it myself, was a '53 R-130 for $150 with no motor or bed. Found a motor and bed and got it going. That was 40 years ago. I ended up letting it go for $500 to help pay for college. Since then, I got a '52 L-110 for free and spend 20 years restoring it. I understand the emotions quite well. I started driving the '52 when I was 14 on a ranch before the owner eventually gave it to me.

Well done! This is fantastic. We have had an old audi that has been in the family for decades. I sold it to my dad over 10 years ago. He still uses it as his 'snow car'. It has almost 300k miles. It used to be modded (12.1 in the 1/4 mile at 116 mph) but i returned it to almost stock when i sold it (100 dollars) to my pops. It has been reliable for him over the years. However, when he retired, he sold his corvette and he constantly talks about the "thrill of power/speed" on the open road. He has bonded with the audi (200 20v) and i am trying to save the money to make it really exciting for him. Thanks for the inspiration. Again, well done!

This is the sweetest thing to do for your grandpa. Seeing him tear up made me tear up and that doesn’t happen often. You’re blessed to have your grandpa and dad to enjoy the memories that you make with this old truck. I never got to see either one of my grandpa’s and lost my dad when he was barely 55. So I kind of lived this vicariously through you all. That’s a wonderful thing y’all did.

You honored his life...he probably thought it about it from time to time, maybe gave up, and somehow they decided it would be a decent thing to do for him before he died. Beautiful.

Way to go Blake. Nothing quite like bringing joy to grandpa! The truck is awesome. I'm a little jealous. Great grandma, $50 and a hog. It just doesn't get any better. That's some amazing history. God bless Blake.

That look of pride on grandpas face and getting to drive with his grandson ..... memories bet he felt like he was 20 again my grandpa on my moms side had an old Chrysler or Buick the thing was huge inside he would take all five of us little kids on a Thanksgiving or Christmas drive if it wasn’t snowing in Cleveland Ohio all five of us kids could fit across the back seat I still remember the smell inside grandpa wasn’t much of a talker and the only thing he would say as we were driving was “I got a hell of a deal on this” repeated over and over during our 30 min drive
