Yes Jamaica Inn is more of the feel of Wuthering Heights.😅 Ohhh i want to read Year of Wonder and People of the Book. I go to a used bookstore once a month. It’s an obsession. I always look for Daphne du murier books . I am trying to get all of dickens too. The becoming Jane eyre sounds really intriguing. The radium girls is heartbreaking. The girls thought they were lucky to get these jobs only to suffer and die. It’s awful what they went through. You really feel for them. You always have the best books

It is definitely getting trick, but I feel like there's a definite distinction in writing every hundred years or so. And there's also a divide between early 1900s and mid to late 1900s. Lines were definitely blurred, but it helped me sort them a bit.

I purged that selfsame Penguin edn of 'Lucky Jim' some years ago. I'd like to think that that particular copy somehow swam the Atlantic, staggered however many miles inland it needed to to end up, exhausted, on the shelf of that doomed bookshop just in time for you to pick it up.

And yet more titles for my TBR; thank you, I think. Particularly excited about the Alcott title, which I had never heard of but found very cheaply for my Kindle (will buy a print copy if I like it). The village in Derbyshire is called Eyam, I live fairly close to it and it is a lovely place. Most of the homes which existed at the time of the Plague have little blue signs detailing the families who lived there and how many members those families died - in some cases, there were no survivors. A visit there is both sobering and uplifting

Great haul! I just want to go book shopping now. 😅 My vote for the recommendation bowl is Jamaica Inn. It was a good, suspenseful read. In 2020, I got two-thirds into The Last Man and had to put it aside due to family stuff going on. It was good, BUT based on things you've said (ahem, Jonathan Strange review 😅) it might not be something you like. It's very, and I mean very, low on plot and high on description and literary tangents, etc. I do plan to pick it up again. And lastly, The Haunted Hotel...it's just...well...not a favorite Wilkie Collins for me. 😂 As usual, I look forward to your thoughts. And am curious about your Toni Morrison experience.
