Surgeon Won't Operate on ME!

Why won't the Surgeon Operate? Dr. John Shim will discuss the reasons why Surgery is not offered. It comes down to risk, expectations, and a surgeon's assessment of the willingness of the patient to do what it takes to have a successful outcome. If you still want a surgeon to consider an operation, Dr. Shim will provide common sense clues on how to communicate understanding and patient compliance to the surgeon.

Dirty Little Secret About Healthcare: Most surgeons want to make good money and if they don't think insurance will cover a procedure, they aren't going to do it unless they're cosmetic surgeon (in which case they're strictly for the rich and indebted). Sure, there probably plenty of unrealistic people who make surgeons hesitant, but its mostly a money questions for the surgeon.

That is pretty cynical. But lets go with that argument. Surgeries that are not covered by insurance should be free. But wait a minute, then who pays for the building and maintenance of the surgery center, the salary of the staff, or the costly up to date equipment? Should they all also do this for free? A nice concept. But, not realistic. Nobody ever wants to have surgery in a run down, falling a part facility, that pays staff very little. Nobody wants surgery by the last ranked graduate of a medical program who is willing to work for less than anyone else. It is what it is.

@@ShimSpineVideos Not sure it is a cynical view. I agree that it all gets paid for somehow. Who said surgeons and other healthcare professionals earning money is wrong? I just said whether insurance will cover a procedure often has an impact on the surgeon's recommendation (whether they share this part with the patient or not).
