Surge Arresters or Lightning Arresters - What will protect you? ⚡
Let’s delves into the critical differences between Surge Arresters and Lightning Arresters, essential components for safeguarding electrical infrastructure from voltage surges and lightning strikes. Despite the frequent use of these terms interchangeably, their applications and functionalities distinctively protect various aspects of power systems.

Lightning Arresters are designed to secure buildings and electrical frameworks from the direct impacts of lightning. Positioned at the highest points of structures, these devices channel the immense energy from lightning into the ground, mitigating potential damages. Common types include the traditional Franklin rods and the technologically advanced Early Streamer Emission (ESE) arresters, which provide broader area coverage and enhanced response times.
On the other hand, Surge Arresters are engineered to manage transient overvoltages that can arise from everyday electrical disturbances such as switching operations, faulty wiring, or external factors like lightning. Utilizing Metal Oxide Varistors (MOVs), these devices play a pivotal role in protecting sensitive electrical equipment by preventing the escalation of surge voltages.
By the end of this video, you'll gain a comprehensive understanding of these two critical arrester types, their specific uses, and how they contribute to the overall resilience of electrical systems against natural and technical disturbances.

Hi Satyaranjan, There are no issues provided the earth resistance is less than 10 ohms and earthing is done as per IS3043 with a length of a minimum of 2.5 meters.
Sir please neutral to earth how much voltage at the critical instrument areas
