    i never surfed. bought a surfskate since i thought it will be nice for transportation as it have greater maneuverability than a regular skateboard (... it turn faster) and since then i watched a few tutorials trying to see how you generate speed without pushing... every single video was targeted toward people who already know how to surf and it just "do THAT like on a surfboard" except yours. thank you. excelent video! cant wait to go out and attempt it tomorrow!

    @@surfcompanions7973 I tried my first surfskate using this video as guide. I might be too old for skateboard, I found I can compress and extend and sort of throw my arms but I do not use rail as this guide not mentioning about rail. is it because I am not using carver surfbaord? (I am using smoothstar). thanks

  • @surfcompanions7973

    @surfcompanions7973

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@mingclv Smoothstar is the best for it! Smoothstar come the closest to surfing! The compression and decompression plus throwing your arms are the key fundaments to generate speed, if you throw the arms into the direction you wanna go, you automatically but more pressure on one the sides. So, on the rails. you can also generate speed by only change the pressure from front foot to heels without arms, but that's not the technique we are teaching for surfing. But it definitely works on surf skates / surf trainer. If you have more question feel free to ask me on instagram @surfcompanions, I am quicker there with my response! Have a great day!

In surfing you need to decompress your legs and throw your arms shoulder high to the directions you wanna go. In the book is nothing specific about surfskate, BUT all word cues for any maneuver which we shonin the book you can try it exactly like that on a surfskate. Thanks for your great comment. Is it a "usual/only correct way" to throw your arms when you have weight are on the toes and compress on the heels? Or does it work the other way round too?

  • @surfcompanions7973

    @surfcompanions7973

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hey hey, for surfing it is necessary to throw the arms to have the proper technique to generate horizontal speed. With the surftrainer / surfskate it is also possible to not use the arms but then you will have a problem in the water, because you can‘t transition so quick from heels to toes on your surfboard. You automatically put pressure on rather the toe or heels side by using the combination of de-compress and throwing the arms. Let us know how your experience is.i will do in the near future another video about it;)

    I have a question thats been bothering me for a while. I've been surfing for about 2 years, and surf with the regular stance (same as when I learnt to Snowboard as a child). However when trying to surfskate or even just cruise on a pennyboard, the goofy stance feels much much more stable and comfortable. Is it common that you have opposite stances in surfskating vs surfing? I want to surfskate to learn the proper technique for surfing, however I feel like its hard to translate it to surfing if I have to do everything the opposite way around. Would you recommend switching surfskate stance even if it feels unnatural and much more difficult?

  • @surfcompanions7973

    @surfcompanions7973

    3 жыл бұрын

    A few people feel exactly the same as you. Maybe someone in the community can explain this in more details,but I would recommend to skate in the same stance as on the surfboard, so your body has the perfect muscle memory, although if its feel totally unnatural and its not working out then skate in your goofy stance. Some people can do both sides;)

  • @surfcompanions7973

    @surfcompanions7973

    You want to maintain speed during your turns so you should stay in your „chest over front knee“ - position. That automatically gives you more weight on your front foot. In longboard surfing, or with bigger boards,yes, there you have to shift your weight quick back for turning,but immediate afterwards you have to bring your weight again forward ( in longboarding usually followed by a cross step or shuffle ). Feel free to ask any addiditonaö questions. Greetings Daniel

    Online of course and a lot of surf shops offer them, but at the moment is the market sold out, the companies have a hard time to come up with the orders. Online is the best option I guess:)

    Why are the front trucks positioned the wrong way? Is there some sort of benefit to doing so or are the trucks specially made so that everything feels the same as when the trucks are 'normal'. (Doing this on a normal board makes it near impossible to turn so I'm a bit confused 😅)

  • @surfcompanions7973

    With a more flexible truck comes more maneuverability which you need in your practice in surfing. This millor surfskate was more a cruiser than a surfskate. There are even more flexible surfskates.

    @@surfcompanions7973 so the front truck being flipped was on purpose? Do you need to buy a special truck to do this or can you do it with any cruiser truck ? (Sorry for all the questions, this is very confusing to me )

    the regular skate trucks are called TKPs and then there are RKP or reverse king pin trucks which have a bigger turning radius ... and then the surfskates have an adaptor than makes the front truck crazy turny

    @@icantsee0 yes, the truck is flipped on purpose and designed differently either from within or from the outside where it is visible. If u live in or near Carlsbad, Ca. there's a skateboard shop with various surf skate models u can try out. It's called Status Skate Shop

    Yes,because a surfskate give you the closest surf related body movements what you get outside the water. Of course a surfskate won‘t replace the feeling of real surfing;) but its a great way to improve your surfing. Hope we could help;)
