Surfing China Walls (May 31, 2022) 4K

Ойын-сауық

Warning: If you are not a local surfer who frequents this break, don't even think about surfing here! It's beautiful but one of the most dangerous places to be in Hawaii. Countless lives are lost here every year! That doesn't just go for surfers but it includes spectators too.
China Walls was firing and beautiful during the peak of the greatly anticipated big SSW swell. These groms were killin it out there!

An epic day at a break I grew up with...astoundingly beautiful documentation. Mahalo for this artful work about the part of Chinawalls that is rarely documented...the break on the other side of the coral heads...the break we actually used to call Chinawalls (for reasons you can clearly see in your video), but later generation folks and others here have shifted over to the rock wall we used to call Main Point. Nice coverage of both here. Thanks so much.

Surfed Portlock Point back in 1973, lived east side in those days. It can be a very dangerous place with a rather meaty swell. I remember the differences between it, and other Town area breaks well. The currents on a big day are treacherous as is getting in and out of the water. This video here is exceptionally well done, and the conditions are just gorgeous for it. Sincere mahalo for bringing this to me. Excellent capture here, and yes the accompanying music is extremely well chosen also. Aloha,

I surfed this a bunch in the 80's when my buddy was stuck working at Cinnabun! Super fun and trippy to ride the wedge along the wall, but also easy to find yourself dry docked, hangin off the wall trying to climb out. Better to brave the urchins on the inside...

China walls is the wave that wedges against the wall. Portlock point is the wave that breaks far away from the wall. Portlock point can hold the size of 12'+ swells but it can be so shallow in spots as to be deadly at that size. I had a couple of different solid 12' sessions out there but the last one scared me and taught me that it was not a wave that anyone should attempt at that size and I was a North Shore guy who is comfortable with big waves. This is the kind of place that can give you a concussion on the bottom.

I wish you wouldn’t have shown so much of the surrounding landscape and name the spot. It’s been getting so crowded at such a small special spot. It’s kind of an unwritten rule in surf photography. But great filming! P.s. this is one of the deadliest spots on the south shore. Plenty of ppl have drowned or broke their back thinking it’s a lot calmer than it actually is and can’t get back in.

Can't we just enjoy things without posting them on the internet? Why the need to share everything to everyone? Beautiful footage of course but ask yourself, why??

There's a 100 other videos on KZread about China Walls for years with way more views than this one. You're going to be busy commenting on all those channels to not post beautiful China Walls videos

@@lorrinrodrigueshs-bcp192 Lol Ricebowls is definitely a local spot. Thought about filming Old Mans, castles, and rice bowls when it was big but missed the opportunity. We'll prob have to wait until May of 2023 to get it firing like that again

This isn't an average day, Jamie O'brien was getting barreled on his 9ft soft top at Bowls during the time this was filmed. This day was the peak of the last big SSW swell.

@@revealhawaiimedia808 Apologies - I was just going to delete my inappropriate and thoughless comment which I posted before I checked the video or what you do on KZread - which is all good. Great channel, great content, great Aloha vibe. I did something I don't generally do, which was to be reactionary.......when I saw your description of the video. On the other hand, you could be the official ambassador for clearing the line up for the China Walls locals with that description 😻😻 peace peace - subbed
