Do they allow you to take any dirt home with you?

@@matthewc.1194 you are allowed to take up to 5 gallons of washed gravel home per paid entrant per day. So not technically dirt, but you don’t want the silt. you want all the heavies that are left behind from washing the silt away.

@@matthewc.1194 honestly, digging down is the hardest way to do it. You have to be pretty skilled to find the layers and some layers have nothing. Washing surface material is as productive as digging, and is usually easy. If you go after a rain, check streams and between furrows for piles of gravel. If you are able, take a look at my other videos. They show this in detail. Good luck to you!

Hey there love your videos! I am thinking of making a trip soon to the park and was only planning on surface hunting. I was wondering if you knew where the majority of diamonds are found on the surface in the park or any tips you have? Thanks!

I am not sure if any one place is better than another when it comes to surface hunting. Timing is a better strategy, being best after a rain. That way the loose silt is eroded leaving diamonds and gravel exposed. Thanks for watching!

It is a great vacation destination. The Crater of Diamonds State Park is the only public diamond mine where you can keep any mineral you find. Do you have plans to visit soon?

How can you tell a diamond from quartz or the other rocks? they all look the same to me lol. It’s been over 20 years since I’ve been up there. thanks for sharing the tips

Centsless Adventures Diamonds have a different look than almost anything else you will find. Rarely, a diamond will be frosted, but most are smooth and feel slick. You can also look at shape if they are not broken. I will try to get a video up of a nice find i seen today, it is easy to tell it from other types of minerals.

Does it get busier? What time if year is best to go?

Michelle it gets much busier as the weather warms in the spring. I would recommend visiting during the spring due to the frequent rain and mild temperatures. The only downside is that the soil is very sticky when it is wet.

Would it help on overcast days to have a powerful flashlight to help you spot the diamond’s gleam?

pat taylor there are no powered tools allowed in the search area to help aid in Finding them. I have heard of mirrors being used.

@@TheArkansasDiamondMiner How about a big 8 x 10 magnifying glass attached to a walking stick? Also, your camera is "powered equipment". Is that against their policy and they just didn't enforce it? Walking slower, with a phone / tablet on a stick, you could take advantage of zoom.

@@ob1kenob738 the powered equipment is an issue where it is used for searching and processing material. Recording videos (to my knowledge) is not considered either of these.

I believe the entrance fee is $13 per adult per day. You can leave and re-enter with a paid receipt.

I would first check the weather, for two reasons. To see what to prepare for, then to see if there has been a recent rain. Go in with a plan for how you decide to search. Recent rains will have concentrated gravel where it can easily be harvested to wet sift. Surface hunting will also be better following a rain. It can be very muddy, so some good boots are important. Lastly, I would join the Facebook page to stay up to date on the conditions and check out the park website. There are several regular miners that can give great information via the Facebook group, and help you to know what to look for! Good luck on your hunt, hope to see you there!

Some people have to make several trips to get all of their tools and equipment into the mine as well, or have the punch cards and one of the employees will punch them in the lobby aside from the registers. I hate to think that any regular would try to take advantage of an overwhelmed staff. What method did you use to search for the diamonds? I am glad you plan a return trip, i hope you find one on the next visit!

Talingas is superb. I eat there almost every visit. Ka Do Ha is a lot of fun, I took my kids there a few times when they were young.

The camera did not want to focus well because of the lighting, but it is a pretty one. I may be able to get another example of one on my next trip.

Anyone renting the cages on the east drain?! Looks empty down there. :/

How often do they plow the site?

The plowed almost monthly in years past, but not anymore. They have no set schedule, but it is at least a few times per year. It is done in sections sometimes, so it may get plowed more often in one area than another.

I do wish they would plow soon, then have a nice long rain! Most of the field was plowed July 3rd, the north portion was done afterward, but it was the only portion plowed since.

Rodney Toon it’s best to go when it hasn’t been turned over. The park hasn’t plowed in since 2016, I was there when the park staff broke the plow. Got replaced with two small disk, lol, every time the park turns the breccia over, what gravel is left goes away, and it’s harder to find Diamonds, if your washing material. Surface hunting is really good when the sun isn’t out. When the sun is out everything shines the Mika, the quartz, the spinel, the glass. The diamond will shine without sunlight. Good to go when the sun isn’t out if your surface hunting.

this is like a lottery, almost difficult to win jackpot....almost difficult to find something big value in here

I saw 2 you missed on the surface. 1 small and one about 2 X the size of what you found.

@@TheArkansasDiamondMiner It is always much easier to be a Monday Morning - Quarterback - lol I would likely spend 8 hours in a 4 X 4 spot - and Miss 3! lololol But I am going to get over there and Play in the Dirt. I'm in NW Tennessee - its a drive, but quite doable. They should let ya "Rent a Tutor" - I'm a show me learner and I've never been to a dig. Will be fun - do they allow dogs_ I have one that's blind and I don't want to leave him alone -

@@bethbartlett5692 They do allow dogs, but all pets must be on a leash at all times. Also, they have live demonstrations twice a day on how to sift gravel.
