That you got that fight to a merge was amazing. Had he not had a Fox 2 left you might have had him, that was literally a thrust vector victory, he just got the nose around just fast enough to squeeze off a point blank Fox 2.

It was another R-77M since it came from the ventral bay. Archer missiles are shot from the side bays.

Firstly, get some glasses, that was clearly a R-77M, also, GSs Fox 2 would have never turned tight enough to get that shot, also even with only Guns the felon would destroy the F-4

The F4 is faster. It's not much of an advantage, but it's something.

The fact you got to the merge in a nearly 65+ year design against a 5th gen is awesome. “Combat tactics Ryan.” Capt. Bart Mancuso, USS Dallas ret.

The Phantom is my favorite fighter jet. Loved this video. The inverted nose dive you used to defeat one of the missiles, using the weight and the power of the jet was what the pilots ended up doing to hang with smaller aircrafts. I watched a video on how pilots would use the same inverted dive to to turn harder with smaller jets that had better maneuverability and tighter turns. Would definately watch a round 2 to this matchup. Keep up the great work, love the videos!

For people who are curious about the numbers: at 20,000 ft, air density is about half what it is at sea level. At 40,000 ft, it's about a quarter.

Thank you! I've spent a long time wondering how you figure out what the MAR is. Now I still don't know for sure! (I guess you halve the theoretical max range of the missile at 20,000, quarter it at low altitude?)

A combination of your heightened anxiety, the suspense of a Phantom vs a Felon, and your expert search for the best possible forms and routes of evasion, really put us in the seat right there with you. We are entering the age of avionics dominance. Anything that can haul ordinance is can be a missile truck then sensor-fused with F-35's and UCAV's of the future and be very dangerous.

It would be dangerous in a standoff fight, which is what everyone expects to be the absolute majority of engagements. But really, it's not the individual plane, but the entire kill-chain. Your hypothetical F-4 in packs of 4-5 with state of the art AWACS, mountain-top large aperture radars, layered GBAD and top professional crews on all of them would be practically impossible to penetrate. But it would royally suck if you wanted to go on the offensive.

That is so close. As in almost beating the Elden Ring Boss and dying with only 3 HP left on the boss health bar close. A good show indeed.

For GS to actually get into the merge with that Felon in his A4 is a testament to smart flying combined with solid strategy and tactics, all used together. It’s amazing. And like it was said in Top Gun more than once, “It’s about the pilot. Not the plane.”

He definitely did a top gun: maverick on you. Avenging a fellow Felon who died the moment he fired a missile.

I actually thought "Holy shit he might pull it off" then the explosion and it was gone..

If you want to make this "fair" would you could use the F-4F ICE with an f-18 radar and amraams or the F-4E 2020 Terminator

The Terminator upgrade is A2G and lacks BVR capabilities as far as I know. The German and Greek ICE upgrades are A2A capable and would be more suitable…

You made it in to the merge! That's basically pretty much win already for me.

He shot a bunch of missiles at you before taking you out at the merge. I would say you had better odds than you thought.

I know going into the merge is an unnecessary risk if you outrange your opponent, but cmon it’s a Felon, he was several seconds late to turn and he still got his nose on before you and had enough time to break off and flare

The objective being "survive" is...telling.

There is an AF base about 100 miles from me and about once a month you'll here a sonic boom. I looked up what plane it could be and the flightradar app showed a F-4 Phantom flying away. Pretty cool.

Su57 owns the battlefield theme ngl It absolutely has that presence, loud and electronic.

I don't know maybe it's just me but I realized, I miss the Tac View debriefs. I do like the F-4 content though. Another jet of my childhood. Thanks for the entertainment and a smidge of air to air knowledge. :)

I don’t normally make comments to your videos, but I watch most of them. I grew up wanting to be an F4 Phantom pilot. You did justice to that aircraft taking it to the merge.
