Hell, the decision doesn't even go that far. It was never about the government punishing anyone for these things. It was about them reaching out to social media companies, and saying "Hey, this is dangerous, this is why, can you please keep an eye out and deal with it?" That's it... that's literally all the government was doing. Would have been within the platforms rights to say no. The idea that they can't even ASK is beyond silly when frankly, there are some things they SHOULD be allowed to do more than ask because of the danger involved.

You can listen to the decisions being argued, but there's a lot of legalese that spoken. Not that actually watching would help you understand the arguments. You really need to understand the law to understand the responses to the Justices questions. But if you listen to the questions and responses and you possess the intellect, you can understand what point they're trying to make, what they're getting at and if you pay enough attention, what they're trying to do. Some of it is quite shocking. And not in a good way. I stopped listening because it was scary and depressing. The Justices have way too much power and not nearly enough ethics or respect for the law that they should have.

We're living in an imperfect world with imperfect rules. If everyone had perfect access to information, this would be a non issue. The best shot we have at getting to know the truth is to have the government handle it and trust that it knows how to fact check appropriately. And if it does do something wrong, we are at least able to follow the public paper trails in government. Anything privitized will have the risk of bias and be influenced by parties that are not for the public good. We have much less power influencing major tech companies if they decide to side with a foreign power...

Who is deciding the difference between misinformation and truth? That is the problem I have here. If we are free people with the capacity to think and discern, we should have all information. The past 4 years have proven that so much of what was censored and/or labeled as misinformation was actually truth. It is very concerning to me to allow government to influence free speech. Protecting children, I am 100% all in for removing things that pose a threat to children because of their vulnerable status. However, this must be balanced very carefully with the free speech rights that protect us from governmental control of information.
