Support Vitiligo
Hello, I am SushAmita Pradeep (Sushmita) Jain.
#SupportVitiligo, picturizes my experience with Vitiligo which is commonly called as white patches.
This might be the experiences faced by many people who have Vitiligo or any skin condition which directly impacts their appearance in some or the other way. It might be considered as autoimmune. Most importantly, it’s misinterpreted/stigmatized and that’s one of the reasons I wanted to come up with something which would put forward a message that reaches out to all of you. I have given my best in gathering the facts out of my own experience. Hope it helps.
I did not realize what Vitiligo was and did not take it much seriously as a kid (10yrs old) but I realized it was impacting my self-image in certain ways and definitely the way others looked at me or sympathized with me made me feel very low at times. I personally felt weird and funny by the way people would stare at me and pose questions for which I had no proper answer as a kid. I didn’t take it seriously but what made me serious was it was impacting my family in a certain way. My parents and brother did everything to get me cured. We also visited many religious places and offered prayers. In my family, there has been no family history of Vitiligo The people whom I have known closely were always supportive.
Most of the times, I felt as if I was unnecessarily sympathized and after one point I couldn’t stand sympathy. I soon realized my own worth and it changed my perspective entirely. I started focusing on improving myself in every way possible and adopted new habits like cycling, meditation and swimming which gave me a lot of relaxation though am still a work in progress.
I had unexpected life changes too. I faced rejections, stigma and I faced a very major loss. I lost my brother. What I am trying to say here is that, I have faced certain situations very closely. I felt, when I can survive certain aspects then why should I let anything bother me anyway. We all are blessed in many ways and I decided to focus on what I can do.
I bet you, If Vitiligo wouldn’t have happened to me then I wouldn’t have been this strong of a person which I have become over the years. It gave me an entire new perspective about life and more importantly a beautiful perspective of how I look at myself and everyone around me.
I decided and wanted to self-advocate Vitiligo. This video is very special to me and I have put a lot of effort into this. It has taken me around 3 years to implement. I am thankful to everyone who were part of this.
Co-incidentally, I met my husband just 2 weeks after the completion of the shoot of this video and we got married within the next 6 months. He doesn't have Vitiligo. It was an arranged marriage and this exactly happened when I completely stopped worrying about anything much and my complete focus was finding what I wanted to do in my life. Everything naturally fell into place. I did have my doubts which is very natural but I kept going with a hope that everything is for a reason.
Hope this strikes the right chord with you. This video was shot an year ago.
To add further,
I have undergone many treatments and my parents have tried all sorts of treatments.
To name a few- Phototherapy (Narrowband UVB/UVA) - Partially successful in my case.
Skin Grafting, Punch Grafting, Melanocyte Transplantation and many more treatments including Homeopathy, Ayurveda & Allopathy. Success of most of the treatments depends on an individual and varies from one person to another.
Facts
• Vitiligo affects around 1-2% of the world’s population.
• Vitiligo is often mistaken with Albinism.
• The difference in vitiligo and Leucoderma is only their onset. Vitiligo is self-generated while Leucoderma can occur after a cut, a burn or after allergy from some chemical.

People should understand vitiligo as its non contagious and it didn't harm the body. Its not fatal and vitiligo person can lead a normal life. Its just happens due to lack of melanine.

I also got vitiligo on my face and now whenever people ask me about white patches on my face I simply tell them that these are tattoos. I have little attitude. 😀

Try Unani medicine / homeopathy or Ayurveda for vitiligo to go frm roots. Also babchi oil application and then sunlight exposure in morning helps. Think positive. In sha Allah... U'll be fine.

My mother has vigiligo on her hands, feet and back. It started when she was 6 years old. A lot of treatment has been done, it did reduce slightly but recently it is increasing all over again. This has never been a problem for me to accept since I grew up watching her living her life gracefully. This video reminds me of my mom and dad. They had an arranged marriage and my father didn't have any problem with the vitiligo marks. People should be more accepting towards vitiligo as it is only a skin pigmentation problem and nothing serious. The vitiligo donot define a person as there is a lot more to the person than those marks.

Very good video. Here is my story I am 24 years old I have vitiligo since I was 12 years old I started doing UVB and PUVA therapy I had some spots on the face and body they are all gone just my hands and feet will need more time. I got engaged 2 weeks ago to a boy whom I have been rejecting for 2 years there were also other people interested in me and they have asked for my hand. Finally, I said yes to my Fiance he is a very good and handsome man. He and his family know everything about me he is a computer science engineer. Don't be sad God kept someone special for you. I believe there will be a cure for vitiligo in just a few years. So chill focus on life.

Hi Angel, i also have white spots... some are light and some are visible more... i thought its tinea verse and tried selsun but didn't worked and its neither vitilgo. Still don't know what is it and its not there on much visible areas. Nothing on face or on fingers etc. Its on my back and arms, legs area... i feel sad when i wear Tshirts as it is visible and looked at near arms. Though my sis tells to wear Tshirt as it looks good but because of the problem i wear shirts with sleeves. Didn't go to water park because of it :*( I just wish that yours also get cured soon and i hope that nobody have skin conditions... had to it many times and can't enjoy life. Full sleeves shirt works good and no issues so i can understand how anybody feels when they are on face or hands. Hope there will be 100% cure sooooon :)

This gave me a new hope. I was diagnosed with vitiligo when i was 6 years old. Now im 25, completed my masters and BEd, working as a teacher. I had a strong positive insight about my life and goals throughout these years. But when my parents tell me about my marriage, it kills me from inside. I was aware of my skin condition from the childhood, and already had bad perceptions and prejudices about my marriage. I never thought it will happen to me, i conditioned me like this. I was always alone, and i believe that I'm the best when I'm alone. I surrounded myself with positive vibes and motivation. I suppressed the fact of vitiligo and masked myself with over positivity, which eventually turned into narcissism. Now my relationship with my parents is collapsing day by day and my mental health is deteriorating by thinking about marriage. I have pressure from every side, and my life has really become a mess! Im extremely afraid of rejections... I don't know what to do!!!

This so beautiful story, n I like the most, the mother who teach her daughter scars on moon.. Wow such beautiful line.. If people teach their children's good things like this way. I believe world become more beautiful n happy..
Its only Skin Color with Different look. It should not be considered as disease. I also have it since from age of 5 years, and with my own experience, I found that, this is related to emotions. Whenever we are sad/emotional it spreads, and when we are happy, and carefree, it stops spreading. There are so many people around us, that makes us to feel we are not alone.

Vinaykumar Nadiger yes this is because the membranes in the brain and the skin has very close connection...my doc explained that to me....she told me something that the membranes are made up of epidermis which is there on the skin as well...positive thinking really matters when one is trying to cure vitiligo. And it's not a disease...it's a disorder....

Great video.. keep up the good work.. the worst that vitiligo patients suffer is mentally n emotionally because of the society.. I am suffering from vitiligo as well, happily married with a baby.. My husband is one of my greatest pillars to face the society.. he doesn’t have vitiligo.. There are lot of people who understand that it’s just a skin tone n doesn’t impact in any other way.. I have vitiligo since 15 yrs. Now I am 26 with my whole body white patches ,and married 5 yrs, my husband is my life and very supportive, although in my life nobody hates me for my vitiligo. If u are good soul ,outer beauty not necessarily. This video is heart touching, so I write here, rather I have no problem with my skin.

I am also a part of this club and if I had a rupee for the number of times I have been asked whether I was burnt as a child I would be a millionaire!!! I am married, I have two healthy children who don't have vitiligo. I just wanted to write this to tell everyone that this doesn't affect anything of consequence. Great movie These people need a lot of love. The mindset behind these is when people feel deeply not loved and not wanted. So selflove is important. But also people around them..if they can shower love WORLD WILL BE A BETTER PLACE. I have healed also people with vitilgo by coaching them in transforming their mindset and chakra healing.

I HV also white patches on my body . I can understand these problems. So many times I feel uncomfortable with unknown person bcoz those first questions always asked about vitiligo . May be i had to also faced marriage problem but luckliy I got love in my life . She is really too good she never feel shame with me . Before two years we got married. Now we r living happily. . Hi myself Shreya Deshmane suffering from vitiligo since many year but by Mom and Dad said focus on your carrer rather then this patches it's gifted don't worry about it anymore but I feel very worried about this beacues when I take medicine it get cure and stop medication it start again on different surface of the body my Mom said focus on your career if anyone interested in you will definitely ask for your hand and he is not bother about your vitiligo there will really someone who really love you rather this patches and all 😊
aaj aise hi tumhara video dekhne ka mann kiya. i think isse pehle jab bana tha, tab dekha tha. acha laga itne time baad tumko dekhkar aur aawaz sunkar :).
I also got little vitiligo and got scared like hell. I was a child then. When we eat things with artificial colors, it happens. It was happening in pairs on my body.. I applied Baakuchi thaila (oil) and those spot got well.. And stopped happening in new places. Ayurveda has an effective treatment for it.. when it is in initial stages. Do not ignore it.

@@rinkichauhan1440 Why do want number? Buy this oil online. It is available on amazon as Babchi oil. Apply it with cotton swab on affected place and expose to sunlight for 10 minutes. Initially there might be some itching and blisters but that would subside.

I am 39 years old now and got infected when I was 30 years old. I was engaged when I was 27 and I still feel if I get the vitiligo before marriage, I would not have married my wife. patches are spreading quickly and unable to control. sometimes i feel uncomfortable when mingling with friends and family members but living as I have to. I still unable to accept my condition. This is from my bottom of my heart. This video is amazing and thank you for making it for who suffer for the vitiligo.

Wonderful video. Thank you so much. Such videos will definitely make things easier for people with vitiligo. But I have to say something here- yes, things have improved in India and people don't discriminate a lot. But when it comes to marriage, things are still not good. I am 35 and doing pretty well in life but my parents are kind of struggling to find a match for me. I have told them to give it a pause because I believe that if someone is destined to come into my life, he will come anyhow. Why to try that hard. But still they wont stop trying. You know what, its so surprising to see the 'man ego' you know where they may have lots of vitiligo spots on their skin but they seek a girl with no or very little vitiligo. Sorry for this long comment but I just wanted to say that if you are a woman with vitiligo, it is still a bumpy ride ahead. But yes, life goes on and lets hope for the best 🙂
Excellent video. Well done and keep it up. What everyone in the world needs to understand is that all of us have got this white skin underneath. It is the amount of melanin pigment that adds colour to our skin. If this pigment is missing in some parts of the skin it’s not the fault of that person. It’s just a skin condition and NOT a disease. Moreover it’s much safer to have this condition than a disease like diabetes, hypertension , heart attack or asthma etc that has life related risks . Education is the key.

In india you can not marry if you have vitiligo .... They could accepet criminal but they could not accepet a person who has a vitiligo...i don't think so that is good thinkg at all...every one has to right live their life but they can not becouse Society don't accepet them just becouse they have vitiligo.. Beautiful girl with a great attitude. I acquired vitiligo at age 39 and it took out the left side of my face and a small portion of the front scalp. My eyebrow, eyelashes, and front/ middle of my hair all turned white. No one in my family has it and no doctor has been able to figure out how or why it happened. I maintain a healthy lifestyle. I tried tacrolimis as well as 22 painful hits with the excimer laser to bring the pigment back. Nothing worked. Without my make up, it's definitely a conversation piece. I'm grateful that I have a supportive family and over the course of 5 years, I honestly don't care anymore how it looks or what anyone thinks. For the smart asses who just have to comment out loud, I just say that I was struck my lightning and survived. That tends to shut people up quickly. 😆😆
Please dont bother you skin colour think like God has done a natural makeup and give you natural tattoos which make you more confident, graceful, beautiful... Accept youself as you are... In this whole world no body knows better than you so don't think what others say to you..love yourself..

Mohd Samina I understand your situation. Even I had Vitiligo at your daughter's age. My parents supported me and most importantly I accepted myself the way I am. Today, I am married and have a life like everyone. My husband doesn't have Vitiligo. I have realized that life becomes easy when we start living life as it comes.

Use krylon or any other brand products for your daughter, no one would know about her vitiligo, it is like a make up product, I am using same to camouflage my vitiligo, u can search on Google or KZread about it... I am ensuring you that it would change your daughter's life, I also had faced many issues but when I started to use these products, my life has changed alot.. U can buy of any brand, there are lots of brands, I can feel ur daughter's pain as a vitiligo patient

Nice vedio. My daughter 7yrs age also suffering with vitiligo on face. Small spots started at 3yr age now it got increased. We are fearing so much. She is asking us why she is having that spots. No answer. Kindly help the better ways to cure.

Love this video❤.... And yes I have it too. I have segmental vitiligo, the type of vitiligo which occurs only one axis of the body and doesn't effect the other Side. It's on my left leg since childhood. It's started appearing when I was 4 and now I am 23, Yep it's still there but it never caused any trouble to me... My friends, families knows about it and they love me for who I am😊... And yes just love yourself...be happy, be confident ..😊 I would like to say to the people who thinks it is contagious... NO! It happens only due to the loss of function of melanocyte which produce melanin... nothing else....

Wow, it was an amazing story to spread awareness about vitiligo. I really got motivated after watching this video. I also got an important lesson from your video "accept your reality and yourself".♥️♥️♥️ Do make more videos like this and spread awareness about vitiligo. Till day, I didn't knew about this disease, I also thought that it's a contagious disease. although I am not affected with this disease.But I've seen that people infected with vitiligo hesitate to socialize or go out. So a message to all the people who are infected with vitiligo ,vitiligo is just a colour condition where skin starts loosing it's colour. #supportvitiligo

I have vitiligo it happened to me when i was in class 11th that time i was very depressed and i was loosing my confidence too but my family supported me and made me realise i m beautiful in my way .now i have accepted this and living my life very happily but whenever my parent talk to me about my marrage i use to get nervous and scared to be get rejected by the grooms family. On monday i m going to meet a person with my family he saw my pictures and told he has no problem with vitiligo but i dont know what will happen .i felt very related with your video di.

Yes it's really truth.... My Amma got vitiligo at 7years old..... After her parents continually give medicine still pubic age time... My mom God's gift.... Vitiligo only one parts started in leg.... Then particular doctor recommended she is cured... Parents asking doctor she has married someone and here after there is no side effects in her marital life.....
