You know, those newer style canteen pouches with 2 side pouches, collar, and drawstring with barrel lock can be gutted of the insulation and padding ( using a seam-ripper and razor blade ) and, if you don't mind the buckle not snapping, can be spread opened to hold 6 ( I'm pretty sure, it's at least 5 ) AK 30's, the drawstring cinched to keep the mags from spilling, and the top laid atop the mags for some protection. They can also be gutted and the main compartment, side pouches ( and collar if you want ) used to make a nice survival kit and misc. stuff ( extra headlamp, small LED flashlight, batteries, Mylar blanket, you get the idea ) pouch. They work really well in both capacities when you use the MOLLE straps to hook it onto the horizontal belt at the back of a chest rig to hold some extra gear. The mag pouch may be made for M-16 mags but, if you attach some elastic cord and tabs and let the rifle mag pouches be open topped, they will fit AK mags as well. They'll probably be a tight fit at first but, like most open topped M-16 mag pouches, if you let the AK mags sit in there and let the fabric stretch, they will increase so that AK mags are soon doing it right nicely. A cool thing to mount on a "FLICK"/FLC ( which can be had for 12 every day on Amazon in used/like new condition ) if you have an FLC and don't have mag pouches to put on the right or left of the zipper or cant think of something to stick on one of those rows of 5 loops each where the "loops on mesh" takes up. I'm sure you're already well aware of all this, but in case you weren't....... ;)

Good video, great deals. On the subject of surplus gear, I am building up a set of USMC FILBE stuff as my new INCH Bag, but - as one is none and two is one - I also want some secondary items. I want to dye some ACU and/or DCU MOLLE gear either dark coffee brown or deep forest green, as I just cannot stand to look at ACU, and neither it nor DCU is very effective here in the Eastern Woodlands of Southern Ohio. I also want to get away from having something which could single me out like the effective, but more expensive BDU Woodland Camouflage or Multi-Cam gear. I have noticed your gear which you have dyed, and would appreciate some insight (if you don't mind) on technique and choice of dye to attain best color saturation and fade resistance when working with the 750 - 1000D Cordura nylon the surplus stuff is constructed of. Thanks.

happy to share all my knowledge. should take two minutes or less! i use rit dye, powder or liquid, whatever they have. i heat the water on my grill. not boiling but pretty darn hot. then i put it all in a tub or if i am doing smalll amount of gear, a yellow bucket. mix up the rit good, add a little salt, i heard that helped, then add the gear. i use weights to hold the gear down under the water line and leave for at least a day. i check it 3 or 4 times a day, stir, and repossition it all. if i am not getting the darkness i want i leave it for several days, but i warn you, some things just will not take dye. its a crapshoot. good luck.

None of the surplus stores here in Portland Oregon are worth a shit, what few stuff they do get in is totally overpriced, in crap shape, and half of it is stuff no one wants. The store in Boring Oregon sometimes sells used mags at full retail (wtf? why would I buy a used AR15 mag for full retail?!?!?!!!!) I'm glad to see someone out there is still selling stuff worth buying, I wish that were true nationwide.

it all has to do with being near military bases. crestview is just north of and partially surrounded by eglin air force base, which is humongous. a regiment of special forces army types just moved down here and grew duke field into a base in itself. ranger school is here, in the middle of the swamp. over in pensacola is the navy/marine corps pilot training. point is there are literally alot of snake eaters around. so our surplus/tactics store are catering to the real deal.

Ahhh, that would explain it. I'm hoping to hit up a surplus store in eastern Oregon next month where there are several military bases. Thanks for the heads up, I get really frustrated because I grew up in Hawai'i and we had an amazing selection there.
