Who's here after playing PS4 Spider Man? Damn! Was Doc Ock such a great character and so fleshed out. His depiction in the game is just as good as the one in Spider Man 2 movie. I don't even view Doc Ock as much a villain in these stories. He's just a misunderstood man who's never been treated fairly.

I always liked Doc Ock because he is almost a mirror reflection of Spiderman. Whereas Spiderman started off selfish and suffered a tragedy to make him a hero, Ock was benevolent and suffered trauma that turned him towards villainy. That's also the reason why I place him above Green Goblin as Spiderman's arch enemy.

i mean he did release a deadly bioweapon upon NY which resulted in lots of dead, including Aunt May, so hindsight is 20/20

Phil K Hey don't bump Ewan McGregor. He played a great Obi-Wan.

Sam Raimi hired a great team to design the tentacles. They came up with a cool unique design and created numerous genius ways allowing the character to grab hold of stuff that was human sized to very small. Just remembering the behind the scenes on the dvd as a kid still impresses me people worked that hard and though of almost everything.

Doctor Octopus, still remains my most favorite Spiderman villain, He's probably the only Villain I remember the most in the 90's show unlike Venom or The Green Goblin. I can't wait for him and the rest of the other's Villains in the Upcoming new "Spider-Man: Far from Home" (2021).

I don't know about you guys, but instead of Green Goblin and Venom I have always viewed Doc Ock as Spidey's archenemy. One reason being of course he made his first appearence way before both Green Goblin and Venom. Furthermore, I feel Peter Parker might have become Doc Ock if he wasn't raised with a sense of responsibility.

He actually was considered as his arch enemy until Goblin killed Gwen... Goblin caused more damage to Peter, he even drove Peter insane... the idea of Peter becoming Ock is interesting (after all, Ock became Peter once...), but Peter's arch enemy is Osborn without a doubt...

Stevy Ouellette I dunno, I think Bane played his part perfectly. Granted he was almost a completely different character. But in that story, in that universe, I thought he did a great job.

That origin was close to perfection. It only made me see him as a bit of a weakling for ending his marriage because of his mother.

He's devoted to his mother, even sacrificing his own happiness. Though that embittered him, he's actually not a bad guy. A good son and a good man, gone wrong.

I love Mr. Molina performance he looked exactly like the comic book, the part I didn't agree was the part where Peter tries to talk some humanity sense in Doc Ock and he eventually gave in...that sucked...for me...but Mr. Molina was brilliant as the Doc Ock

Disagree. I loved Molina in the movie because he was ultimately a frustrated and depressed genius, who decided to break bad because of his problems, but ultimately he wasn't a villain, but a good man who made a mistake.

GMovieSeeker Agreed. I actually can't stand the official interpretation of Doc Ock. To me, he just seems like a smart grunt villain with no depth after the accident. Raimi's interpretation was a sympathetic villain whose main objective never deviated from his initial goal of research.

So I've noticed, most of the super-villains in Spider-Man's main rouges gallery have been given their super-powers due to a scientific flaw, like Doc Ock, Sandman and the Lizard.

I feel sorry for Otto for losing his mother.

Love the Science behind the Creation of Villains in the Marvel-Verse.

Fun Fact: During the early 1990’s James Cameron (who made Terminator, Titanic & Avatar) was going to make a Spider-Man movie. It was going to be a dark and less faithful version of Spider-Man then a version we saw before. Doc Ock was one of the villains (along side Electro and Sandman), he was going to have a sidekick named “Weiner”, have a catchphrase called “Okey Dokey” and at one point called himself “The real Spider-Man”. Leonardo DiCaprio was going to be Spider-Man and Arnold Schwarzenegger was going to be Doctor Octopus. The movie didn’t get made because of some litigation bullcrap but you can find the script online. Somewhere

The video should have ended with the "You have a train to catch" quote/scene from Spider-Man 2. Still, it's pretty good. Poor Octavius. That thing with his mother... nasty. Just. Nasty. Thanks for the video.

You left out the reference for Spider-Man Unlimited #3. That's when his childhood was first revealed, as well as his romance with Mary Alice. There is an incongruity in the backstory regarding Otto’s mother. She was afraid that he would leave her after her years of devotion to her son following his father’s accidental death on his construction job. The argument was started when the mother started hypocritically dating after she successfully fully convinced Otto to break off the engagement with Mary Alice. To him, this was insult to injury; he had found love and happiness with Mary, and yet had to break it off because his mother for paid it due to her fear of desertion. And now he had found out that she was going on a date herself. But yes, the argument caused her heart attack and it did leave Otto in an emotional state that should have been given time to mourn.

Can’t wait to see Alfred Molina make his return as Doc Ock in No Way Home. Anyone else saw the trailer?

It is the mechanical arms. You are right, without them he is an out of shape man, but the mechanical arms have even more strength than Spider-Man himself. As Doc Ock once said in The Amazing Spider-Man comics, "Your strength is merely that of a spider, but mine is the energy of an atom, born of a nuclear accident!"

Like he'll stay dead. What I've learned from comic books, no one stays dead, except Uncle Ben.

If you haven't play The Amazing Spider man for the PS4, there's a Mr. Otto that is to made a series. He and Osborn were Partners and then Otto got fired. Great story and amazing chemistry with Peter Parker.

If I had a super power, it would be a mutation. My first choice would be to have giant bird wings on my back to fly. But one of my back up mutations I would want would be arms like Dr. Octopus.

Since I saw the movie I knew that Doc octopus was a very difficult villain.

Molina really killed it, I was amazed by how good Spiderman 2 was.

Norman Osborn may have caused more damage and hurt to Peter's personal life, but Otto Octavius has always been a far more interesting villain to read about. People often say "Norman figured out who Peter is, he killed Gwen, he did this.. he did that". Yes, fine, and from Peter's perspective within the fictional Marvel universe, Normal is indeed his worst personal enemy. But from a reader's perspective Otto's whole arc is so much better to read. Unlike Norman, who is just pure, unjustifiably and unidimensionally evil and corrupt guy obsessed with being bad and antagonizing Peter simply for the sake of it, Otto actually has plans and visions that he thinks are right and that doesn't have to do with Spider Man. His villainy has reasons, has better and more justified backstories. This is why he is the best nemesis to Spider Man-the superhero. This is why most epic and inspiring Spider Man story arcs, films, games all have Otto as the main villain and not Green Goblin. Otto can make you feel a range of emotions that the Goblin can't. Plus a guy with tentacles looks like a more dramatically menacing than a halloween costumed, flying man.

If you think about it Doc Ock is just some cliche mad doctor. Except he's actually created something awesome

When I was a kid, my dad used to put 4 pool noodles in a life vest so I could pretend to be doc oc hahaha i miss childhood sometimes...

The arms did NOT have a brain interface in the comics, they had a control panel on the front. Octavius only gained mental control when they permanently fused to his spinal cord

I swear if it were possible to get those arms through plastic surgery, I would soooo get them I don't care the price, I'd pay anything, I swear I could teach kids "don't let your parents deny you happieness"

In the Spider-Man game for the PS1 and N64, Dr. Octopus teamed up with Cletus Kasady (AKA: Carnage) in an attempt to unleash the symbiotes on the world. So Spider-Man teamed up with Venom to take them down. When Doc Ock and Carnage were both defeated, the symbiote left Cletus Kasady and jumped onto Doc Ock, fusing them to form... *MONSTER OCK!*

One of the few characters who is almost always adapted right.

You said you were going by the comics, but in the comics, he had hand controls on his harness, rendered useless by his telepathic control, the brain interface was only there start to finish in the movie, the flaw was the device keeping his brainwaves safe from their AI was destroyed in the accident as well as the fusion to his spine

Many will say Green Goblin is better for knowing Spiderman's identity, but doctor octopus took control of Spiderman's body and killed Peter Parker (temporarily though).

Alfred Molina was doing a good job for playing Villain Like This in Spider-Man 2 when he turns out the evil try to kill Spider-Man and Spider-Man fights Doctor Octopus and then that's one of my favorite Spider-Man fight sequence of all time

If Venom is an Evil Counterpart to Spiderman, Green Goblin to both, Doctor Octopus is one to Peter: both are nerds and men of sciences who were picked on school and coincidentally obtained powers related to eight legged animals(Octopus for Otto, Spider for Peter). But where Peter has a sense of responsibility regarding his powers, Otto became so consumed by them that they went all over his head. The Superior Spiderman series even lampshades this, because is a what if someone with Peter's willpower and intellect, but without his idealism or sense of responsibility took the mantle of Spiderman. In short, Doctor Octopus is what Peter could have become if he let his power go all over his head.

i fail to understand why he's so tough even though he is a regular human in bad shape.
