I really don't think that... most people likely never watched that show nor cared. most modelling jobs require a blank canvas (until high society girls like Kendall Jenner and the Hadid sisters became cast as models due to their huge social media following at least, but these girls are exceptions). Hardly any brand likes to use someone who isn't classically beautiful AND "mouldable" into anything they want. If they want celebs, they'll use the Michelle Williams' and Jennifer Lawrences of this world (huge movie stars). Likely no matter how beautiful you are (and most contestants on the reality show aren't actually the model "material" agencies will look for - most of them are "too old" and, pardon my saying that, not tall and skinny enough - talking about high fashion) - being recognizable to the public is a downside for agencies and most modelling jobs. And the industry doesn't need these contestants - plenty of 5'9 and taller girls with gorgeous features and tiny bodies, 14 or 15, hungry to become successful models until the industry chews and spits them out. It's not a desirable industry to be in at all. Regardless of that - being from reality tv even if people never saw you on there, likely indeed is a huge DISadvantage.

Before winnie got on the show, she thought it was gonna give her at least a head start for a modeling career after she left the show but she didn't. Look at most of the girls who was in antm before cycle 21 and the winners, they aint even on the biggest magazines these days, they aint even active in modeling career, they aint even on victoria secret or other runways. Let me tell you the truth antm is just a reality tv show. Things bts on antm aint even on the internet, you have to find that out for yourself, until someone open their mouth and tell the truth about what really happen in antm. Legends like Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, Cindy Crawford, Claudia Schiffer, Kate Moss, Tatjana Patitz, Yasmeen Ghauri, Stephanie Seymour, Tyra Banks and Heidi Klum. Some of the older ones like Janice Dickenson, Twiggy, Iman, Anna Bayle, Mounia, Kirat, Dalma, Beverly Johnson, etc. Among the current working models only Gisele Bundchen and Adriana Lima comes close.

I don't think ANTM "makes" you a star. It gives you exposure and then you have to do the work on your own. That's a lot more than many upcoming models get. Oddly enough, it seems to be the people who didn't win that become the most successful. It's similar to American Idol, some people are still stars today, others we've never heard from again.

This would be true if in literally all 24 seasons of the show, each and every girl ended up being a flop and had to quit modeling. It's sad but Winnie is right. Too model does damn near NOTHING for your career. And you can't tell me that since the shoes started in like 04, NONE of those girls were able to step up and use the "exposure" or platform Tyra so graciously gave them. The stats are on the board, and what the stats say is that Top model has helped ANY of these girls launch modeling careers. Even Eva failed to make it in the fashion world after becoming a bit of a pop culture sensation and ended up just becoming a TV personality. I ain't seen her in a fashion spread in 15 years and so y'all can't use her as an example of a top model success story. Sorry, the truth hurts sometimes but it's the truth. Winnie is right. Maybe she could have been more tactful with the way she said it sure, but she tellin nothing but the truth.

Paully808 Firstly, proofreading is critical in online discussions Secondly, I’ll concede that I couldn’t name a current “supermodel” from the show. However, multiple girls did go on to become working models. Who knows if they would have done any better without the show, millions of women quit modeling every year.

I met Winnie when Drake was filming Work in Toronto with Rihanna. She came to visit the set and people were excited to meet her but honestly she acted like she was above everyone and barely acknowledged us. I didn't get a good vibe from her.

Don't complain after the fact, now want to down play your bad choices smh. At the end of the day, the show was not just about modeling, that's why it was on tv for entertainment as well, hello. Why didn't you go straight to a modeling agency instead of a TV show for up and coming models if you wanted know part of the entertainment aspect? There is a reason why.... Actually in today's age unfortunately it is how people interpret it. People love to take what someone said and make them look evil because for some reason it makes them feel great. This says more about our society than these individuals we are prosecuting.

@Ashley Moore I'd give her the benefit of the doubt if so many people who've met her off the show hadn't said she has a bad attitude. I took it as a grain of salt because anyone can make up anything, but then she dissed Duckie Thot's natural hair and has done other shady stuff

Now everybody say it “ SHES ONLY FAMOUS BECAUSE OF HER SKIN CONDITION” if she didn’t, she would’ve just been a nobody

She had a nasty terrible attitude on ANTM that's why nobody would book her, I don't think it has anything to do with the fact of it being a reality show. If reality TV has negative influence on models careers then why does Kendall Jenner has a very successful career

that's what I thinking. Maybe it was her behavior she had in the show that didnt give her the jump she was looking for. You always have to put in hard work though to get anywhere. The non ANTM winners found success in other industries. Thank God for actual talent and not just looks.

Reality shows never propel careers, I understand where Winnie is coming from. So many reality shows like ANTM and American Idol promise you a career, but when you win or get second place they're nowhere to be found. That's why so many people who win those shows disappear soon after.

As always, Jeannie is so well spoken I love it!!!

My cousin was on America’s next top model in cycle 13 and got in the top 4. And she’s STILL modeling! She’s been modeling ever since because SHE put in the work. She didn’t wait for opportunities to come to her. She went out there and chased her dream. Some people are so ungrateful.

Top Model might not have given anyone a modeling career or crazy success, but it was definitely a stepping stone for them all. It taught them how to create their own portfolios, how to pose, how to find the “light”, be placed in uncomfortable positions and how to overcome personal fears. It was an experience. Whether good or bad, it was a platform. Period.

Probably cause ppl were nasty to her. She admitted that because she was teased growing up she turned into a mean girl. This happens, it's a defense mechanism kids as well as adults use when they go thru trauma. Like a child who gets physically abused will most likely become abusive etc. They develop it's me against the world attitude because they're experiencing so much internal pain.

@@laramiaizz no, I'm stating a fact. I don't defend serial killers, nor rapists and neither do the Doctors or investigators nor any one else that gives you the statistics. They just give you a behavioral pattern. Bully's are usually people who have been hurt by other dysfunctional ppl or for being different. I don't personally know her so I don't judge her either way. I don't base someone's character by the biased perception of others. People will say the MOST about other people just with one side of the story. I'm sure many if not everyone can relate to someone misjudging them because of the holier than thou attitudes that ppl tend to have. Most ppl when put in a toxic situation will be affected by the toxicity one way or another. Some people commit suicide, some people become part of the problem, I mean, it's just psychology. But no, not defending. Just stating some facts, some of which came out of her own mouth.

Her statement was cute and all but her attitude and tone when talking to Andy said bitter and ungrateful.

2:46 - 3:08! Agreed, I found one of the winners modeling for a cheap jean brand at my local retail store, her picture was on the tag.

Ultimately you have to go through life with no regrets everything that you’ve gone through you really have to utilize as that steppingstone to make you the person who you are now. I feel that it helps to build the character and helps you to gain more common sense as to what to look for going forward somewhat like a relationship you go through that process you break up but you learned from that experience and it put you in a position to where you can move forward and be great.

She still respects and is grateful because she got the platform to have some of the opportunities based off of being on top model ! You’re a GROWN WOMAN... you’re supposed to go out and actually go and audition and stuff... she said “ no agencies ... booked me “ like girl the show is way for you to put a name for yourself and you do the rest of the work yourself... that’s it that’s all !

Winnie may be rude but she’s not wrong. Being on Top Model is the kiss of death in the real fashion industry. Tyra treats them like pageant contestants, not fashion models. It sets them back so much. She also doesn’t have the best eye for models, anyway.

I understand that perhaps ANTM wasn't what she expected in terms of modeling or gaining recognition in the industry but if she was wise she should have known that at the end all experiences have their meaning, negative or positive and this reality show reaches millions of viewers, so she can't deny that A LOT of people got to know her name and her story because of it. I don't think there is anything wrong with saying that it wasn't what you expected but at the end it's nice to show that you are grateful and that you appreciate those who give you a chance and saw something in you.

the fact that she’s being ungrateful if I were Tyra I would be very hurt , because she exposes these women to opportunities that other woman don’t get . she wouldn’t have had those Instagram followers & the platform without ANTM & her response was a nice way of saying the ungrateful thing she said the first time .

Brevity is what most people are taught when being on televised mediums . Frankly courage and boldness are a must in the business of entertainment .

Winnie not being booked has nothing to do with her being on a reality show. It has everything to do with her attitude while on the show and how she came across. If she’s not as successful as she thought she’d be, blaming Tyra is only going to make things worse.

Here's the thing. It does affect your career be it good or bad. Any exposure on a show, as an extra, or as the main character will still influence your career from the time you start on set to the point that it is put on television. These shows are the beginning to your career. After this, the real work starts. Much like in RuPaul's Drag Race, the contestants say that the REAL Drag Race is after the show. This is where you get booked and hustle. Yes, these reality shows may affect your career in the future (like I said) from the beginning you are on set to television, but it is still the beginning - of course, editing on reality TV can be made to portray someone in a certain light, though that is showbiz and you can't really say that one didn't know this to begin with. On Winnie, she did seem like she wasn't grateful in the beginning. She made it seem like she wasn't really in the business until she did it herself, but in reality it did help her. Yet I understand her reasoning on why she had a tone of voice in the interview and reiterated on her IG post.
