I remember trying to become a model when I was 16. I went to some small local runaways but, like, I’m naturally thin, never did any special diet, but with 175cm and 53kg, I was still too fat to have a “serious” career, targeting national or international events. Nor me not my mother were ok with me becoming anorexic so I quit lol But I remember vividly the people there teaching the girls how to starve like, “drink loads of water to fill the stomach”, “only eat one apple a day”, it was super messed up. I believe now there is a law obliging the model industry to certificate that the models are healthy. I hope things are better now.

The law says the model must have a BMI of 18 or more, not be healthy. And as anyone with a little bit of knowledge about BMI knows, body builders can be classified as obese. So sadly they went for BMI measurements rather than healthy body fat percentage which probably means a lot of these models are incapable of having a healthy menstrual cycle etc :/

Most straight men like romantic body types more than dramatics like Linda E, Iman type bodies. Most straight men also don't like super gamines like Twiggy. Gay man talking here. And most straight men don't prefer tall women. They like the beautiful faces not the height. I keep telling my girlfriends, high fashion models ain't what most guys are after. High fashion is dominated by gays like me. They are not promoting what straight guys like. If that's any consolation to you.

Actually, as a gay man, I think that's the least popular shape along with Twiggy true gamine for straight guys. Straight and thin or teenage boy is not sexy to most straight men. Heck I don't want to look dramatic or gamine as someone who dresses gender non binary. I'm a flamboyant natural, I WISH I was romantic !

@• ᴗ I'm not under the impression that romatic type women are favoured within the porn industry, though "an exaggerated look" probably is. But many types can have large breasts or hips and there are also surgeries. Romatic type people have soft flesh, rounded features and a small, wide bone structure , but are not nessecarily super curvy. I am also a romatic type person and when I grew upp I was also insecure becuse it's just not fashionable nowadays to look that way. I have actually been told by different people that I have a vintage appearance. And I also find the kibbe system has been great for understanding and accepting my body structure.

@@cheong728 There is nothing wrong with any body type. I think that people like you need to end this tendency to perpetuate zero sum game dynamics when it comes to women's bodies. As a tall girl myself I was looking forward to a nice vid on my body type but lo and behold it needs to devolve into what men like and don't like. Fact is, you can appreciate different types of bodies and you can reframe for another poster how to be proud of her body type without mocking mine or anyone else's, Just a perspective that other human beings (including tall women who everyone seems to feel are exempt from basic courtesy re:body shaming) are reading your comments, and I'm sad to see that being a gay man has not exempt you for the typical male entitlement to rank and pick apart womens' bodies.

I remember hearing an interview with 80's/90's model Yasmin Le Bon, where she talked about how back in the day it was cost effective for the designers to have models the same size. The idea was that they didn't have to make a variety of clothing so they wouldn't have to have all this capitol behind them, per se, to get their designs out there on the fashion show circuit. The models could just show up, throw on the outfits and and walk the catwalk, etc. Any number of them could wear the same outfit with in reason. She commended the newer designers for having more body types represented, acknowledging the commitment and money it takes to do it.. Just a little fast fact, lol. I am glad you make these. I wish I knew about Kibbe when I was younger. I was devastated as a teen that I couldn't wear the cute, "junior" clothing seen in chain stores. I had to go in to the, gulp, dread "misses" because I had a long torso and longer crotch to waist ratio (no Jordache for me). Had I known! I thought I was flawed. It was just my build, grrr. I know now that I'm a 5'8" FN, thank you very much and am proud. No, I don't have the coveted Barbie/Dolly Parton/Monroe figure. Oh well. I play up what I got.

So R-fam will only have curves from flesh, and as opposed to very voluptuous they are more closer together, kind of like a snowman. In fact, TRs will look more like Jane Seymour and Vivien Leigh than they will look like Salma Hayek. Romantics will look more like Christina Ricci and Drew Barrymore than Marilyn Monroe and Beyonce. Also, worth noting that old Hollywood celebrities were almost always corseted, so their WHR is 99% of the time artificial.

it could definitely change! 15 is very young to be certain, the body and face are still changing. some girls have late "blooming" and can suddenly grow hips and breasts at 16-17, for example usually people recommend at least 20 years old to be certain though I don't see why you can't use kibbe principles or following the lines that nature gave you on a body that is still developing. the only thing is to not let her box herself in a certain type in case it will change in the next 5-ish years :)

Im really skinny and curvy, think tyra banks with way more booty... Yes i have shoulders that match my hips. Its to help us balance. It doesnt mean we're masculine... If its masculine, how come many women build up their shoulders to create an illusion of an hourglass figure? Ive seen many curvy tall women, many are slender with naturally big boobs and actually their proportions make them curvier than average height women. We're just stretched out. I know this is a visual body shape video, but just to those other tall women out there.... Its ok to be tall. Thak you for this informative video Aly, it was really good!

What all models have, are broad and wide shoulders, cause clothes do " not look and hang as good" on women with narrow, soft or small shoulders. I often see women with a model heigh of 5 food 7 and more, but usually they do not have great shoulders. In the summer month I often see women, with very beautiful model legs, but what over 80% of them are missing, are gourgous wide and broad shoulders. It Is not very common in women to have regal looking shoulders. Very successful models all have broader shoulders, than the average man, walking down the street. Think of Naomi Campbell, Irina Shryk, Natasha Poly, Elle Mc Pherson, Christie Brinkley... The average man sitting next to them, has not such great shoulders, as they do have naturally. What makes a body of a Claudia Schiffer so gorgeous are usually the perfect cuttet shoulders. In my opinion all models have four things in common, what a lot of people dont think: 1) GREAT JAWLINE, you will not see any model without a great jawline. The jawline is the often forgotten secret to a beautiful face. A model can have big or small lips, big, or small eyes and all different face shapes. Even the shape of the nose is not important. Look at Karolina Kurnikova, her nose is very big and large, but she still has a very beautiful face, cause of her gourgous jawline. 2) HEIGH, you can not be a professional model, if you are petite. A lot of gourgous celebrities are very petite, think of Reese Whiterspoon or Ariana Grande... but they could never be very successful in the model industrie. When women are so petite, they can not be dressed in a lot of different cuts and still looking good in them. I know a women, who is very petite, like 1,56 cm, and when she is shopping, everything is to big and to long for her. Mini dresses on them look like mididresses and so loose the vibe of the original garment. A mini has to look mini, not midi! About 90% of the jackets and coats in the stores are compleatly overpowering them, even the XS size. Cause of that, it is very important for models to have a certain heigh, 5 food 7 and more, cause the designers promote theire clothes and want to sell them. A women with a heigh of 5 food 7 can put on 99% of the designers cuts, without looking overpowered or strange in some type of styles. I never thought of having the advantage of having a certain heigh, when it comes to shopping. Since a teen I could always rock about 80% of the clothes in the stores. 3) LONG TORSO, this is, what most do not think about, but having a long torso is very important as a model. Every jacket, blazer or jumper falls a thousend times better on a women with a long torso. All the specific details or patterns the designer created, need space between the boobs and the hips of a women to been fully seen. On women with short torsos, specific design details are often not seen. 4) WIDE and BROAD SHOULDERS, as I described before. Some think that the wheigh is also very important, or that models have to be very thin. I dont think so. There are very fleshy Supermodels out there. Think of Douzen Krous, Bar Raphaeli or Irina Shryk. Are they thin or narrow looking? Not at all. You can be very successful as a model even if you have wider hips or a more fleshy looking body. The body types of Natasha Poly and Tyra Banks are compleatly different. Natascha is a thin Supermodel, but Tyra Banks is not thin at all. She is fleshy. But both have the body of a Supermodel cause of the things I wrote before. Of course you cannot be overweight, but that is logic if you work as a model.

You guys are confusing body size with body type. You can be tall and skinny and be hourglass or pear shaped because of your bone structure. Look and Victoria’s Secret model candice swanepoel she is tall and skinny but still curvy she is pear shaped because her hips are the widest part of her body. Just because most models are tall and skinny doesn’t mean that they all have the same exact body type . Some are more rectangular some are curvier your body type is you natural frame or bone structure of your body not the size of your body. There are plus size women who are not curvy they are more apple or rectangle shaped so yeah just because someone weighs a certain amount doesn’t mean they are synonymous with that weight. I.E. if I’m skinny that doesn’t mean I’m not curvy and if im bigger that doesn’t make me automatically curvy.
